The live-action One-Punch Man script is getting rewritten by Rick and Morty creatives Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell. The writers chosen for the adaptation have strong comedy backgrounds, which could match the original manga's style. Uncertainty surrounds the release date of the movie, but there's potential for success if it remains true to source material.
One-Punch Man's live-action adaptation has received a new update, revealing the script is getting a rewrite from the creator of Rick and Morty, alongside a writer from the animated comedy. The original manga created by One is a superhero comedy series about Saitama, a man who can defeat his enemies with a single punch. It was adapted into an anime beginning in 2015, with season 3 also confirmed. An American film adaptation was also revealed in 2020, though little has been revealed since its announcement.

If you were raised on a healthy dose of "Lord of the Rings" and "Game of Thrones," you may wonder when exactly the fantasy genre sold out for comedy. Of course, those adaptations have the occasional gag, but when compared to the comedic stylings of "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves," they are very somber affairs altogether. So what happened to the serious side of wizards and warriors? Why couldn't we get a "Dungeons & Dragons" movie that took this stuff seriously?
But look closer at both the gameplay and the culture, and you'll see that "Dungeons & Dragons" has always been rooted in comedy. Every time we sit down to play, we filter our own consumption of popular culture through character decisions. So let's talk about why humor is an integral part of "Dungeons & Dragons" and why "Honor Among Thieves" does a great job of translating that to the screen.

Krapopolis, the new animated series from Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon, has already been renewed for season 3. Harmon is perhaps best known for creating the cult favorite NBC sitcom Community, which currently has a reunion movie in production. However, after scoring a huge hit with Rick and Morty, he began to focus more on animated content, also creating the fantasy web series HarmonQuest, which blended live-action and animation.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Krapopolis could very well be another hit considering the fact that Fox has renewed the series for season 3 before season 1 has even premiered. In fact, season 1 doesn't even have an official release date yet, though a 2023-2024 season debut has been confirmed. Fox's president of scripted programming Michael Thorn says that "the more we see from production, the more excited we are about their creativity," and they can't wait to bring more laughs to the fans.

Variety asked bonafide Dungeons & Dragons expert Spencer Crittenden — of “Harmontown” and “HarmonQuest” fame — to watch Amazon Prime Video’s new series “The Legends of Vox Machina” and give his take on the show. Crittenden knows a thing or two about turning his experience as a Dungeon Master into a bit of a career, and that’s exactly what the Critical Role team has done on their popular D&d stream — which has now led to “Vox Machina.” Here’s Crittenden’s review.
It’s hard to explain to the outside observer what Amazon Prime Video’s new animated series “The Legend of Vox Machina” means for the D&d fans of the world. Dungeons and Dragons, the once-reviled and still deeply misunderstood fantasy game, is enjoying unprecedented popularity in our current age of never-ending content and streaming. It's been long out of fashion to call Dungeons & Dragons uncool. The fantasy role-playing tabletop game has been a pop phenomenon for a minute, appearing on shows such as Paul Feig's Freaks and Geeks. Recently, the RPG has been a salient framework for Netflix's Stranger Things, in which characters pass their time with the game's adventures and even name the Upside Down monster after the Demogorgon, a D&d creature. Outside of scripted series, there are celebs who love Dungeons & Dragons so much that they've created entire shows based on it, such as Deborah Ann Woll's Relics and Rarities and Dan Harmon's HarmonQuest. From Joe Manganiello to Stephen Colbert, we've rounded up a list of Hollywood stars who have been known to enjoy a riveting game of Dungeons & Dragons.

One of the more brilliant ideas to bear the name of Dan Harmon isn’t an animated comedy series like the fan-favorite Rick and Morty or a live-action cult classic like Community, but a blend of both approaches with a dash of D&D-esque flavoring thrown in. This is HarmonQuest. As Harmon himself self-deprecatingly admits at the beginning of every episode, he’s not the star of the show; that honor falls to dungeon master and co-creator Spencer Crittenden, who literally holds the fate of the role-playing game’s characters in his dice-…...

Last November, as a wave of niche-level subscription video on-demand (Svod) services flooded the market, The Chernin Group and At&T's Ellation brand quietly launched Vrv, an Svod offering based around the anime video platform Crunchyroll. Vrv's main selling point was its lineup: It offered access to videos from dozens of top digital brands, including Rooster Teeth, Frederator's Cartoon Hangover, Mondo Media, and more.
Almost a year later, Vrv is quietly plugging along and honing its model so that it can position itself as a unique offering in the saturated Svod landscape. One of the platform's most significant original programs, the second season of Dan Harmon's animated Dungeons & Dragons adventure HarmonQuest, arrived on September 15, so now a good time to check in on Vrv and its curious position within a crowded field.

“Rick and Morty” brought back Evil Morty in a recent episode, leading some fans to wonder whether the installment of the Adult Swim series was inspired by Donald Trump’s recent presidential run. The seventh episode of Season 3, entitled “The Ricklantis Mixup,” featured the villainous iteration of one of the title characters, who waged a surprisingly successful political campaign within the Citadel. Given that the power-obsessed Evil Morty delivered debate speeches that appealed to the working class, was Trump on the writers’ minds while they were creating the episode? Spencer Crittenden went into “HarmonQuest” a game master and came out a showrunner. Long the trusted guide of the adventures of Fondue (Dan Harmon), Beor (Erin McGathy), and Bone Weevil (Jeff Davis) on the hybrid animated/live-action series and in other Harmon-led projects, Crittenden has taken a larger role than ever on “HarmonQuest” Season 2. That means not only continuing the ongoing deeds of Fondue and Co., but bringing in a new batch of week-to-week one-off characters to join the fray.
“A big part of role-playing games is that every group is different, every table is different, every player has different values and ideas of what the game is,” Crittenden recently told IndieWire. “They’re all kind of right and kind of wrong, but everyone is still having fun. I think they all highlight the correct way to play and show that you don’t necessarily have to be an expert.

In the wake of Seeso confirming that it would be shutting down operations, one of its stars, Cameron Esposito, is putting into context the important opportunities that have been lost as a result.
Esposito and her wife Rhea Butcher, both stand-up comedians, created and starred in Seeso’s “Take My Wife.” Playing fictionalized versions of themselves, Esposito and Butcher made a comedy that looks at what it takes to make it in both stand-up and a relationship. Financial concerns, working out routines and everyday sexism are just some of the issues that the show tackles, but “Take My Wife” doesn’t shy away from the darker subject matter. The show’s second episode tackled the topic of sexual assault in a way that would be eye-opening to many, even women.

As Seeso further winds down operations, insiders have confirmed that upcoming comedy “There’s…Johnny!” won’t launch at the end of the month as originally planned.
“There’s… Johnny!” was originally set to debut on August 24, but according to insiders close to the show, producers are now looking to find a new home for the period comedy, set in the world of “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” circa 1972.
The decision at Seeso to shelve “There’s… Johnny!” comes after other shows also haven’t premiered as planned, including Season 2 of Dan Harmon’s “HarmonQuest,” which was supposed to return at the end of July.
Created by Paul Reiser and his “Mad About You” producer David Steven Simon, “There’s… Johnny” premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April.

Created by Paul Reiser and his “Mad About You” producer David Steven Simon, “There’s… Johnny” follows 19-year-old Nebraskan Andy Klavin (Ian Nelson) as he stumbles his way into a gig as a gofer at Carson’s “The Tonight Show” in 1972. Billed as a “fictional comedic trip back in time,” it sounds like a period riff on “The Larry Sanders Show.

Billed as a “fictional comedic trip back in time,” it sounds like a period riff on “The Larry Sanders Show.

The duo went as far as to Rick Roll fans by announcing a first look at season three, but instead releasing old clips pieced together to form the lyrics to "Never Gonna Give You Up."
However, on April Fool’s Day (of all days), the first new episode of Rick and Morty was released, unannounced, on Adult Swim, leading to a frenzy of viewers tuning in.
Well, we say unannounced. On Twitter, Harmon responded to one fan asking for new episodes with the message: “What if I waved a magic wand and made the first episode from season three premiere tonight. Is that what you’d want?...

Editor’s Note: This article is presented in partnership with Seeso, an ad-free streaming service for comedy lovers. Subscriptions are $3.99 per month, with an option for a one-month free trial.
In early August, The New Yorker Magazine’s esteemed television critic, Emily Nussbaum, sent a tiny missive into the Twitterverse: “I just watched this new sitcom & it was good & funny & romantic. Wtf is Seeso??” with a link to “Take My Wife,” a scripted half-hour series by comedy’s favorite married lesbians, Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher, and a Seeso Original Series.
So, Ms. Nussbaum, to answer your question, what indeed (expletive redacted) is Seeso? In a growing world of niche streaming platforms, Seeso stands out for its wealth of TV classics (including all 42 seasons of “Saturday Night Live”), stand-up specials from the likes of Janeane Garofalo, Brian Posehn, Joey ‘Coco’ Diaz, Doug Stanhope, and Rory Scovel, and Original Series from...

Steve Coogan’s tactless alter ego Alan Partridge is coming back to a screen near you in a new one-hour mockumentary titled “Alan Partridge’s Scissored Isle” for the streaming comedy channel Seeso.
In this new special Alan will head to the north of England, leaving behind his comfortable existence, for a personal journey of redemption. Per the synopsis, “With his Land Rover and his dog, he journeys into an unreported Britain inhabited by the very people he had offended to ask whether, in this once united kingdom, a ‘schasm’ has formed – a schism or chasm, between the haves and the have-nots (or haven’ts).”
The presenter will live among everyday people in hopes to understand them, see the world through their eyes and ultimately become a better citizen, man and more sought-after broadcaster.

Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon’s animated sci-fi series “Rick and Morty” follows the high-concept adventures of an alcoholic genius scientist, Rick, and his naïve, nebbishy grandson, Morty (both voiced by Roiland). The series has garnered widespread critical acclaim for its madcap imagination, dark humor, and its existentialist perspective. Aside from their series, the “Rick and Morty” team also excel at improvisation, evidenced by Roiland and Harmon’s respective podcasts – “The Grandma’s Virginity Podcast” and “Harmontown” – and the cast’s improv backgrounds. Now, Roiland, Harmon, Spencer Grammer, who plays Morty’s older sister Summer, and writer Ryan Ridley improvise a mini-episode of the series for New York Magazine. Watch it below.

“Take my wife…please,” goes the classic joke by Borscht Belt comedian Henny Youngman. In their new Seeso show, “Take My Wife,” stand-up comedians and real-life married couple Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher have given Youngman’s joke a 21st century twist, adapting it into a cheeky title befitting comedy’s newest gem.
“Take My Wife” is the story of Cameron and Rhea, playing fictionalized versions of themselves, two lady-identified comics who date each other. The series begins with their wedding night, then cuts to six months earlier, when Rhea is working a graphic design job she hates and Cameron is fielding podcast questions about what it’s like to be a woman in comedy. (“My favorite question!”)
