This contemporary new series for Awesomenesstv/Go90 needs to be seen by everyone! The show is so high quality and better than the majority of the shows on TV. The cinematography and directing is great, its gritty, dark, but real also by a fellow female director got to show love for the female film makers :-) The show in itself is inordinately eerie and not in a cheap way either. By using the ever changing new apps that the teens actually use on the show and how little privacy we have in our world, it does warn us how much information we are allowing the world to have open about us. I actually love the use of YouTube celebrities mixed with actors in this show, Although some of the social media stars used in the show is there first acting jobs they bring an element of social fame that you can actually follow along with when watching on go90 app and reading the comments it is a good addition to the show. The acting is superb and the actors all feel like real kids not the cookie cutters of free form, they are flawed and having them live in middle America (not sure where they shoot) makes the scenery feel even more real. Some of the stand out performances are the lead girls Lia Marie Johnson, Lulu Antariska and Katelyn Nacon- they all feel like the real high school stereotypes of your high school not televisions idea. They all bring a great level of vulnerability and flaws to the "protagonist type" characters and they really shine in different episodes in different ways. Lia is very playful and likable, Katelyn has the emotional performances to make you cry, and Lulu is extremely relatable and believable and is also like your best friend in high school that you want to shake to tell her to wake up but hug for support. Brendan Meyer, who plays the school new nerdy kid, plays it very against type and brings a sensitivity and innocence to the character. Lukas Gage, the school asshole plays a very believable portrayal of the bully/antagonist that isn't one note has layers of pain underneath his facade. Danielle Savre, the questionably voyeur-like teacher who is not fond of Lukas' character and feels a closeness to Katelyn's plays a very real and sad character a relatable one to be being an adult who wants to be apart of kids and teens again, Timothy Granaderos brings a very raw, bad boy character but infuses it with a puppy dog sensitivity that is endearing to watch. Nick Fink the guy Lulu dates plays a very mysterious, simple approach to the guy we are wondering if he is good influence or bad influence on one of our main protagonist. These performances stand out to me and feel like a new generation of breakfast club/ pretty little liar types of teams and I can't wait to see where the show goes. The only note I have is the writing is great and feels real but at times the A-story has some gaps in the stories progression with logic, just some minor details need to be a little more clear and precise.
This show had me hooked from the get go, not because it was particularly suspenseful (which it did get later on), but because the characters are so very believable. They actually behave like teenagers from the start, instead of being high school stereotypes. I love all three main characters, and how they are taken seriously and don't act overly stupid. These are the kind of characters I've always wished for in teenage drama. I hope it'll set a trend.
A pity the episodes are so short though.
You see a lot of these series where high school kids have to tackle an insane amount of adult problems or a fear of extortion, and are reluctant to ask an adult to intervene. While that formula admittedly wears thing and there's many melodramatic moments, the acting in this web series isn't too bad and the 20 minute episodes are great for anyone whose attention span isn't the best.
Almost decided to turn it off, after watching about five minutes.. Glad I didn't!
Finished all the seasons in just over a day,as it keeps your interest in the mystery.
Actors chosen, acting, cinematography & overall story was decent.
Sure it was clichéd,etc.. Don't get why the(cop)dad or the(military)teacher was introduced,if their skills played no real story significance. At one point you may of wondered if the teacher was involved in torturing the kids, based on her parts in the movie.
In a way how it ended, another season at some point might be good.
Would recommend seeing it,if you haven't had a chance.
