It’s common for every filmmaker to yearn for freedom when it comes to their creative endeavors, which can often contribute to some of the most authentic works the medium has to offer. Although such creative freedom is unheard of when it comes to traditional TV networks, which often impose a bunch of restrictions for the showrunners, this isn’t the case for streaming services.
As a result, Chuck Lorre, arguably one of the most renowned figures in the realm of sitcoms, was thrilled to work with the Netflix-driven Disjointed.

Unlike traditional TV outlets, Netflix grants filmmakers excessive creative control over their projects. This has been one of the key factors why many talented figures in showbiz often opt to join the streaming service, which is notable for pushing the ideas that would not have seen the light of day otherwise.

Kathy Bates recently told a relatable story to Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family) on his Dinner's On Me podcast (via TheWrap) when both she and fellow Oscar winner Meryl Streep lost the Best Supporting Actress Oscar to Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2003: They drowned their sorrows with vodka at the bar.
“It was a very Joan Crawford-Bette Davis moment. She slammed her evening bag down on the bar and said, ‘I’m having a vodka, straight, neat,’ and I slammed my evening bag down, I said, ‘I’m having what she’s having,’ and we tossed it. It was a moment.”
Zeta-Jones won the Oscar for Chicago, playing Velma Kelly. The film also won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Sound, Best Art Direction, and Best Film Editing. Meanwhile, Bates was nominated for her role as Roberta Hertzel in About Schmidt, a film that features Jack Nicholson playing completely against type. Streep...

Chuck Lorre is best known for his sitcoms like The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Mom, and The Kominsky Method. Known as the king of sitcoms, Lorre seemed to have cracked the code when it came to multi-cam comedies, with shows like Tbbt becoming staples of pop culture.
However, he seemed to have misfired with Netflix’s Disjointed. The Kathy Bates starrer followed a marijuana advocate and the employees in her cannabis store. While the reviews were middling at best, the show was known for its edgy humor, with one episode talking about the Illuminati conspiracy. It was canceled after one season.

Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates has made no secret that portraying shrewd defense lawyer Matlock will be the final role of her decorated 55-year Hollywood career. The iconic Misery actor stars as Madeline "Matty" Matlock in the rebooted legal drama, which premiered on CBS on September 22, 2024. Although assuming the mantle left behind by Andy Griffith in the original Matlock is no easy feat, Bates stands to make TV history for the first time since 2015 if all goes to plan.
Should Bates win a probabilistic Emmy Award for her acting swan song, she will become the first woman to win a Best Leading Actress honor for a network production in 10 years. It would be an ideal way to bid a fond farewell to one of history's most diversely talented acting careers, reminding old and new fans that Bates can handle comedy and drama with the best of them. Kathy Bates has announced her plans following the end of her upcoming CBS series Matlock. The actress intends to retire from acting, putting an end to a career spanning decades. Notably, she also revealed how the show changed her earlier retirement plans.
The Series Will Be The Last For Bates
The 2024 legal drama is a gender-flipped reboot of the 1986 series of the same name. The earlier series saw Andy Griffith play the title character, criminal defense attorney Ben Matlock. At the time, the series was heavily credited with bringing Griffith back into the spotlight.
Bates will step into the role of the new title character, Madeline Matlock, who rejoins the workforce at a prestigious legal firm, using her own set of skills. As seen in a series trailer, Bates’ Matlock can easily convince a man she’s just met that she’s his own aunt within moments of meeting him.

Despite telling the New York Times that CBS’ Matlock is her last dance, Kathy Bates told Deadline tonight on the Emmys red carpet that she will “never” retire.
Clarifying the headlines out there, she told Rosy Cordero tonight, “I was thinking about maybe going into semi-retirement until I got Jennie Urman’s script for Matlock,” said Bates.
“I read it and said ‘Oh, yeah, baby, I gotta do this. It’s amazing.’ It’s not just an episodic, there’s an over-arching mystery that goes through the series. Big twist at the end of the pilot,” adds the Misery Oscar winning Best Actress.
Bates had told the New York Times that she had planned on retiring after a movie shoot went south.
“It becomes my life,” she told the Nyt of her commitment to her on-screen alter egos and getting projects off the ground, “Sometimes I get jealous of having this talent.

The Matlock cast of characters includes a captivating group of actors capable of reviving Andy Griffith's 1980s and '90s legal courtroom drama, one of the best procedural TV shows ever. Griffith's series utilized his folksy exterior to mask his sharp legal mind, and Bates' reboot will adopt the same premise. Kathy Bates will star in the series as Madeline "Matty" Matlock, a retired lawyer who returns to practicing law to support her family. Bates has held leading roles in TV series like Netflix's stoner comedy Disjointed and NBC's Harry's Law, but the Matlock reboot is remarkable.

Connor's recasting in Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage hints at a bigger role and shift towards Mandy's family dynamics. Dougie Baldwin's experience and unique qualities make him a fitting choice to portray Connor in the spinoff series. Balancing the focus on Georgie & Mandy with appearances from other Young Sheldon characters is crucial for the success of the spinoff.

Those who could afford it hid in their Vault-Tec vaults. As for the rest of humanity, they were forced to confront the horrors of this new world head on. Now over 200 years after that war, one young Vault Dweller will risk it all and travel to the surface.

Ex-cons speaking out and telling their stories seems to be a hot trend on TV these days. Just look at Gypsy Rose Blanchard, whose backstory is surely to become a big-budget feature film in the years to come. On that note, there are a number of exciting feature films coming to Peacock in February, one of which is based on the writings of Quawntay "Bosco" Adams, a real-life ex-con who escaped from prison, was caught and returned to his cell, and has since served his time and shares his story with the world as a free man. Sure, Bosco has a more contained, "TV movie" vibe to it, but it's a gripping prison journey that reignites the cinematic subgenre thanks to veterans like Tyrese Gibson, Thomas Jane, and Vivica A. Fox returning to action to grace the screen.

In a world replete with quick-spreading disinformation and the subsequent, dangerous proliferation of kooky conspiracy theories, the 2021 animated series "Inside Job" — created by Shion Takeuchi (a writer on "Gravity Falls" and "Disenchantment") — was perfectly timed. "Inside Job" posited that every single conspiracy theory you've ever heard — whether it be Reptilians, JFK, the Mandela effect, the flat Earth, or the faked moon landing — were all 100 percent real. Clones were out there, severed heads were being kept alive in labs, and aliens regularly visited Earth. Just like in "The X-Files," ordinary citizens weren't allowed access to this knowledge.
Earth's conspiracies were overseen by a mysterious underground organization called Cognito, Inc., one of six major shadow governments secretly in charge of the world. The other five were the Catholic Church, the Illuminati, Atlantis, the Reptoids, and the Juggalos (tee hee). The central joke of "Inside Job" was that Cognito, Inc. was staffed by flawed,...
