‘A Man’s Job Is a Man’s State’: ‘Severance’ Star Tramell Tillman on Milchick and What He’s Hiding
Image
Tramell Tillman nearly missed the audition for Severance’s perma-smiling Mr. Milchick. On a frigid January day, he made a split decision to make the 15-minute commute on foot, rather than wait for a delayed train. Acting on instinct, much like his limber counterpart, Tillman ran through the industrialized South Bronx to the studio lot.

“There are shopping carts that are mysteriously flying by,” Tillman tells Rolling Stone. “There’s a gentleman who’s foaming at the mouth, wild fro. He’s pushing empty refrigerators on a cart, and he looks at me sideways,...

One Law & Order: Svu Fan-Favorite's Return Has Just Gotten More Difficult Following CBS' New Show
Image
A potential fan-favorite return to Law & Order: Svu is more difficult after a new casting update. Unsurprisingly, there have been many cast changes during the 26 years the police procedural dedicated to trauma survivors has been on the air. Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson is the only character from the first season who is part of the Law & Order: Svu season 26 cast, and except for Fin (Ice-t), who arrived during season 2, the team is made up of people who have been with the series for less than three years.

While the cops and district attorneys are the main focus, many of Law & Order: Svu's best episodes have included recurring characters such as defense attorneys, jailhouse psychiatrists, and medical examiners. Some of these Svu characters are popular despite their limited involvement in the series, but it is not always possible for them to return, especially if the...

Playing Seth Milchick, a supervisor and middle man at the mysterious Lumon Industries, on Apple TV+’s Severance, has changed Tramell Tillman’s life.

Tillman — whose previous small-screen roles include parts on Dietland and Godfather of Harlem — had just finished a run in the Broadway play The Great Society in 2019 and was looking for his next gig when Severance came across his desk.

Five New Faces Board the U.S.S. Enterprise for Star Trek: Brave New Worlds!
Anson Mount

With the three of them at the helm of the iconic Enterprise, anticipation for a return to episodic exploratory missions has been a slow-burning roar ever since.

But three crew do not a Star Trek show makes.

Today, Paramount+ announced the addition of five,...

Michael B. Jordan-Peter Moffat Legal Thriller Snags Series Order at AMC
AMC has added a pair of series to its roster of originals, picking up the legal drama 61st Street and the hourlong dark comedy Kevin Can F*** Himself.

The two shows, both from in-house AMC Studios, came out of the cabler's script-to-series development model, whereby a writers room is opened and several scripts are written. Aidy Bryant in Shrill (2019)
In the third episode of Shrill, the new Hulu comedy based on Lindy West’s same-named memoir, Annie, a thirtyish magazine editor played by Aidy Bryant, attends a pool party. There, for the first time, she enters a world filled with people who look like her: fat women, drinking, dancing, swimming and sunning themselves — “living in their bodies and enjoying their lives,” Annie marvels.

It’s a remarkable moment not just for her but also for the viewer. Like Annie, TV watchers are unaccustomed to seeing so many thick women share so many frames.

Marti Noxon in Numéro Quatre (2011)
Producer, writer and director Marti Noxon took the dais for the first keynote at SXSW, and she shared her very personal journey of sobriety and how it was translated in a trio of projects in what she likes to call her “Self-Harm Trilogy.” This includes the eating disorder pic To the Bone (her directorial debut), the eye-opening self-image dramedy Dietland, as well as the HBO adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects. Last July, HBO’s president of programming, Casey Bloys, told Deadline that there are no plans for a second season of the Amy Adams-fronted mini-series. But during her keynote, Noxon said that there is more story to tell.

The miniseries focuses on Adams’s functioning alcoholic Camille, but it also shines some light on her pristinely controlling, tea-length dress-wearing mother, Adora (which won Patricia Clarkson a Golden Globe) and her sister. The miniseries gave us a taste of their story,...

Women’s Image Awards nominations: ‘Mary Queen of Scots,’ ‘Little Women’ lead
The Women’s Image Awards has announced its 2018 nominations, with the BBC miniseries “Little Women” that aired on PBS’ “Masterpiece” series earning a leading six bids on the TV side. As for films, “Mary Queen of Scots” secured five spots on the ballot, followed by the Ruth Bader Ginsberg biopic “On the Basis of Sex” and Melissa McCarthy’s “Can Your Ever Forgive Me,” both with four.

Given the #MeToo and Time’s Up movement’s push against sexual harassment and lack of equal opportunity for women in Hollywood, the fact that an organization like Women’s Image Awards exists is more important than ever. The group that is celebrating its 20th anniversary has just announced its nominations in 18 categories. The TV and film nominees are selected from a field of submissions from networks and studios.
