SAO was very enjoyable stuff and though it's quality has dipped and I think they squandered the concept it's been fun so far. Bingeing everything SAO related I came across this and didn't realize it was a fan based parody.
13 episodes in length it's essentially a redubbed and remixed compacted version of the show with over the top backwards and in places dark humor. And I have to say for the most part it's absolutely hilarious.
Seeing the characters in scenes you're familiar with suddenly discussing questionable topics and screaming profanities at each other officially split my sides.
This is something that will appeal to everyone who appreciates a crude dark sense of humor regardless of their opinions of anime. In many ways it lovably mocks the whole genre as well as splashing you with well thought out social commentary.
It takes quite a bit to have me laughing out loud but Abridged managed it through a combination of silliness and jokes that had me both cringing and laughing at the same time.
However there is always a flipside, there are only 13 episodes and the parody only goes up to the first episode of SAO's season 2! Therefore sadly this hilarity is incomplete and that breaks my heart.
Regardless this is incredibly funny stuff and I firmly recommend it.
The Good:
Really funny stuff
Flawless dubbing and re-editing
The Bad:
Incomplete
Some parts get needlessly serious

When I know this is parody I just blow away what ??????
I have no idea it does'nt feel parody but feel like next season material even next movie ordinal Scala is based on this story continuity is one biggest plus point of it.
Yeah only use sward like star war is look odd but nothing else look out of place and everything was in the place.
Sure it can't surpass the legend of first season but it respected it better then expected.

Hilarious. Having watched and love the real series, the jokes in the parody are that much funnier.
It's a shame they only make 0-2 episodes per year.

I couldn't stand the original SAO... but this parody has let me enjoy the core story of SAO without insulting my intelligence. SAO: Abridged is incredibly well written, and gives the beautiful artwork of the original respectable dialogue and character building aspect. Hilarious, witty, and surprisingly heart touching; this is SAO if it were actually good. "It's the SAO we need... and the SAO we all deserve..."

This parody took the bland disappointment of the original and turns it into a better show, with characters with actual depth, a likable and interesting protagonist and amazing humor that isn't just picking on the bad parts of SAO.
It feels like it's own original show, as if it's just SAO but better.
If you were a fan of the original, you'll love this and even if you didn't like the original, you'd still love this.
It's free on YouTube and I can't recommend enough that you should check out this amazing parody and support the creators.

If it isn't clear by the title, I hated the original Sword Art Online. While most of the hate is clearly mob mentality and part of a meme, the series itself was horrible. Terribly one-dimensional characters and a Gary Stu piled with plot armor as the main protagonist, worthless female characters that serve nothing but to fall in love with the main character for no reason, laughably pathetic and generic villains, writing that is equivalent to a fourteen year old's fan- fiction, and worst of all, fanservice that never seems to end and hinders whatever credibility I could possibly give to this mess of an anime.
Normally, when I heard there was a parody of this anime, I thought it was going to be nothing more than lazy writing with some of the lowest form of wit for the sake of comedy, but after finishing the whole series on the Aincrad arc, I just loved it. SWE ended up rewriting the story and gave the characters actual...character. The finale was perfect and even got a laugh out of me when one of the scenes criticized the resolution of the original...actually, most of the series got a laugh out of me between the way Kirito and Asuna interacted with each other and others alike. Kayaba became much more than a lame antagonist that doesn't even remember the very reason why trapped and killed thousands of players in a very unique and interesting way. The side characters were fun to watch, especially Klein, who has more relevance to Kirito and the plot than in the original. The story was well rewritten and actually made me care about some of the characters with voice acting that didn't make me want to shut my ears.
Overall, I commemorate everyone who worked on this project. All the hard work was clearly there in making an otherwise bland anime into something worth watching.

Sword art online abridged takes the dry and long buildup of the original and makes the content related and also how they dont change the main keys of the story, but include their own bits plus comedy which is what won me over after I saw the first episode. If you like sword art online like I do then this is very much worth checking out. Give something witty entertainment a like if you view the videos
This parody is simply spectacular. Honestly, the only reason you should watch the original is to see how much better this is than it.
Everything about this show is done extremely well. The voice acting is great. The story is great. All the characters are well-written. It is consistently funny. I have no complaints for this show. I would highly recommend it. Do not watch the original version, because it is extremely poorly written. This version is a masterpiece and I love it.

I believe with my whole heart that these makers are just trying to poke fun the series, and tried to make a joke at every oppertunity they could. But somehow it surpasses normal expectations of an parody. This makes it a perfect case study.
But how did they manage it. they started to shuffle the caracters arround. And then they commited to these new caracters. All jokes remain in caracter and were often because of caracter. They even somehow managed to even let the main caracters to experience growth.
Next, they expended the theme of being in a computergame by making jokes about glithes, balancing, lag and other things.
And third, ofcourse just absolutely witty dialog and suppurp insults.

A distasteful spam series for individuals who hated the SAO series. These are great lengths that people go to just to break up the enjoyment of popular series, this is plain and simple. No it's not better than the actual series which was a fine piece of work, short and simple it's just the usual comedic parody series that you can find on youtube.
I actually enjoyed the original series, but this absolutely surpasses it. Jokes aren't over done, the voice acting is consistently amazing and I love hearing actors from Yugioh and Dragonball abridged popping in too. I'd honestly put this as the best anime abridged I've seen.

The creators have done the impossible: more than merely injecting a delightful megadose of humor into the original series, they've transformed its one-dimensional characters and go-nowhere plot into something genuinely compelling. Where other abridged series deliver solid laughs and memorable memes, SAO Abridged is the only I've found to also successfully pluck at the heartstrings as its protagonists overcome their plethora faults and grow together.
Add in a menagerie of entertaining side characters and villains and you've got the best abridged series we've seen to date. Watch the series and consider a generous donation to the Kirito is Always Right Foundation!

Just terrific writing, editing, and acting. I have never watched SAO so I can't say how it compares, but this is just an excellent show on it's own accord.
Excellent writing, and improved plot, character development, and just about everything you can name over the original. So glad I found this, its now one of my favorite shows.

The first season is constant stream of sarcastic humor. If you have not seen SAO, some of the references will not register, although this is honestly even better than the original.
