Anime, like any other medium, has major highs and egregious lows. While there are several anime that are beloved, there are just as many that have their quality disputed. Likewise, some of the worst anime ever made are so bad that no one questions how terrible they are.
The worst anime ever made are infamous and offer next to no redeeming qualities, especially if the visuals or the plot are both horrendous. Some are so terrible that fans would rather forget that they even exist. Unfortunately, their infamy precedes, keeping these dumpster fires well-known in the annals of awful anime.

For new anime fans, there are plenty of great titles to pick up and binge-watch. Titles like Madoka Magica, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Konosuba can give viewers hours of intense action, comedy, and drama. A lot of this goodwill is built up through the anime's first season, which can help build fanbases for franchises overnight if done well. However, if the sequel doesn't live up to expectations, an anime series can be doomed to obscurity prematurely.
While the success of a good first season can set up an anime for success, a bad follow-up can ruin this potential altogether. A bad sequel can do much more than just ruin an anime's potential. It can also spell disaster for the franchise it's based off of. A poor adaptation of the source material can lead to potential fans to drop out in droves, leaving little enthusiasm for future sequels.

Berserk 1997 holds a special place in fans' hearts for its faithful adaptation of early manga arcs, despite some skipped elements. Berserk 2016 is criticized for sub-par animation quality and choppy storytelling, making it controversial with fans to this day.
Berserk is one of the darkest, bloodiest and best manga franchises of all time, with the series gaining several fans throughout the decades. The series had also had numerous adaptations, including video games, merchandise and, of course, anime. There were two Berserk anime series, but in many ways, they couldn't be more different.

Synonymous with the classic era of "grimdark" fantasy anime, Berserk has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years. This is mainly due to the manga being more accessible than ever, not to mention manga/anime on a whole only growing more popular. Enthusiasts now have more of the manga and even a fanmade anime project to look forward to, but the franchise's reputation is still somewhat sullied by a previous adaptation.
The 2016 anime adaptation of Berserk was notorious among audiences and critics, and not without good reason. From rushed pacing to downright jarring animation, the series struggled to capture even a fraction of the original manga's downright breathtaking quality. This take on the beloved...
