Roger Ebert Gave This Matt Damon And Clint Eastwood Movie A Perfect Score
Image
In Clint Eastwood's 2010 film "Hereafter," Matt Damon plays George Lonegan, a gentle, kind fellow who relaxes to audiobooks of actor Derek Jacobi reading the works of Charles Dickens. George is also psychic and possesses the ability to communicate with the dead -- not in any direct sort of way but through vague impressions and visions. Thus, he is occasionally hired by the bereaved to contact deceased loved ones. George can see shadows from what he believes to be the Other Side, but he is also a sensitive person who understands the emotionally fraught place that his clients seem to be in. Indeed, Eastwood presents George's psychic abilities as grounded and possibly not even real. It's conceivable that George is merely able to intuit what his clients need to hear to achieve closure on their grieving.

"Hereafter" features a web-like plot that involves several seemingly disparate threads. George develops a...

Jimmy Kimmel’s Journey Down the Conspiracy-Filled ‘Rabbit Hole’ Is Better Researched Than You Think
Image
The modern era of the Internet has one well-known player: the bro conspiracy theorist. He’s often clad in a hoodie, clutching a tiny microphone as he narrows his eyes and laments about everything from the Earth being flat to the Covid-19 pandemic being connected to 5G. And now, thanks to “The Rabbit Hole,” Jimmy Kimmel is one of them.

“He really got into character really well,” Molly McNearney, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” co-head writer, executive producer and Kimmel’s wife, told TheWrap. “I think he’s observed conspiracy theorists.”

“The Rabbit Hole” is essentially the opposite of Seth Meyers’ “A Closer Look” or John Oliver’s “Last Week Tonight.” Each episode of the web series follows a hunched-over Kimmel as he seriously stares down the camera and explains his latest wild theory, from Elon Musk’s name meaning “small nuts” to boat wakes being the “chemtrails of the sea.” The...

“History teaches us the longest rabbit hole has no end,” the band succinctly said about the new song via a press release, following up the ominous message expressed in the prior single “Rabbit Hole.” Themes of dystopian techno-futurism run through both songs, as well as the LP sleeve art and various track titles such as “AI Phobias” and “Shocked at the End of the World.”

“Human Existence encompasses both inherent challenges and potential,” stated the band. “It’s up to you how to pass the time.

Kiefer Sutherland's 15% Rotten Tomatoes Horror Movie Finds New Streaming Home
Image
Kiefer Sutherland, best known for starring in various action-thriller projects like 24 and Rabbit Hole, has showcased his versatility across different genres since the start of his acting career. He also ventured into supernatural territory, with a few credits in horror features, including the often-overlooked horror mystery Mirrors. Released in 2008, the supernatural horror movie sadly didn't receive widespread critical acclaim, holding only a 15% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. Some critics criticized the movie for its weak plot, while some audiences appreciated the atmospheric appeal of the film. Although Mirrors received mixed reviews upon its release, it might receive a new lease on life (and a newfound following), as it will be heading to its new streaming home this June.

According to Cbr, the Alexandre Aja-helmed horror feature will be available for streaming on Hulu starting June 1, 2025. It will be joining the streamer's extensive horror catalog, which includes titles, like The Curse of La Llorona,...

As if the Animation Wasn’t Enough, ‘The Beginning After the End’ Is Sucking the Life Out Its Best Characters
Image
Spoiler Alert !!!The following article contains massive spoilers for Episode 6 of The Beginning After the End.

The Beginning After the End seems to go deeper into the rabbit hole of anime adaptation issues with every episode it releases. Episode 6 gives viewers the worst parents in anime history in the form of the anime versions of Reynolds and Alice. While their manhwa counterparts are warm and caring, the anime makes them seem like bad parents who don’t care about their son.

This problem of changing a character’s personality is not limited to Reynolds and Alice, but also extends to the anime’s portrayal of Arthur, who lacks the charm and life of his manhwa counterpart. While jarring animations and shoddy frames can be excused, making the characters of a beloved story feel lifeless is a big no.

The Beginning After the End is ruining its characters Virion introduces Arthur...

Check Out the Wild Physical Transformation Miles Teller for His Powerful Boxing Drama on Max
Image
Despite appearing in a few critically maligned young adult films during the first stage of his career, Miles Tellerhas always indicated that he has had more ambitious projects in mind for the future of his career. Many actors within his age group settled for regular roles in franchises, but Teller was smart to choose smaller, independent films that were more likely to be critically successful, including the devastating marital drama Rabbit Hole, the subversive high school romance The Spectacular Now, and the Academy Award-winning thriller Whiplash. While each of these films was the subject of heavy acclaim, Teller’s name was often left out of the praises, as he saw the majority of the accolades given to his co-stars. However, Teller gave one of his best performances ever in Bleed For This,a powerful sports biopic that required him to completely transform on screen.

When Deadpool 3 Director Promised An Epic MCU Face-Off – “The great luxuries for me on Deadpool”
Image
Deadpool Vs. Wolverine MCU (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Deadpool 3 might’ve been delayed before, but it’s finally here and living up to the hype. Director Shawn Levy teased an epic showdown between Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in the MCU. Unlike their previous X-Men Origins: Wolverine encounter, this face-off is different, with tons of style and chaos. “Deadpool’s awesome, but he’s deeply flawed — and Wolverine is Wolverine,” Levy alluded.

And here’s the kicker: Deadpool might not always win. Shocking, right? But, apparently, Reynolds is all about putting the story first, not getting all the glory. According to Levy, “Ryan operates from a place of ‘What’s going to be most satisfying to the story?’” This isn’t about ego battles between Reynolds and Jackman. No, it’s about delivering the best, most satisfying film possible.

But I don’t think these two will be pulling punches off-screen,...

Nicole Kidman’s Commitment To Rabbit Hole: The Reason She Took On Acting & Co-Producing In A Film About Grief & Loss
Image
Nicole Kidman Rabbit Hole Role (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Nicole Kidman didn’t just play Becca in Rabbit Hole—she practically became her. And not in some “method actor” way. No, Kidman plunged so deep into the grief of losing a child that she ended up producing the damn movie too. Why? Because she had something to prove. To herself, Hollywood, and anyone who thought a film about loss could be too dark to sell.

Rabbit Hole isn’t your average tearjerker. It’s raw and brutally honest. Kidman’s character, Becca, a grieving mother, wrestles with rage, grief, and hopelessness after losing her son. Her emotions hit hard—neck muscles bulging, hands twisting. Kidman made it real, not holding back an ounce of the pain. “It was really raw, and I felt it was genuine and delicate,” Kidman alluded. Yeah, there’s no sugar-coating here.

But hold up—this film...

“I suffer from toxic masculinity, absolutely not”: Blake Lively Feels Nicole Kidman is the Only Woman in Hollywood Who Can Still Look Cute While Crying
Image
Blake Lively made headlines earlier this week after she filed a complaint against her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni. Lively accused Baldoni of s*xual harassment and retaliation and an investigation revealed that the Jane the Virgin star had orchestrated a smear campaign against Lively after the release of the film.

Despite the controversies surrounding it, It Ends With Us turned out to be a commercially successful film and spoke about important themes that many would have experienced. When an interviewer asked Lively if she ‘ugly cried’ during the film, the actress mentioned that apart from Nicole Kidman, no one else cried cutely.

Nicole Kidman almost left Hollywood for good in 2008.

After moving to Nashville and giving birth to her first daughter with country superstar Keith Urban, the Academy Award winner thought she was “pretty much done” with acting and wanted to turn her full attention to her new family. That is until her mother stepped in and urged her to keep going.

“When I get birth to [Sunday Kidman-Urban], I was like, ‘Well, I think I’m pretty much done now,'” Kidman told CBS News. “We were living on a farm, and that’s when my mother said, ‘I wouldn’t give up completely. Keep a finger sort of in it.’ And I’m like, ‘No, no. I’m done now. I’m done.’ She’s going, ‘Just listen to me. Keep moving forward. Not saying that you have to do it to the level you’ve been doing it, but I wouldn’t give it up completely.

Directed by Justin Chadwick, Sierra Madre stars Sutherland as Captain Jordan Wright, the leader of an elite squadron who finds himself in a battle with violent cartels after he and his men take leave for a wedding in Mexico. Delbert Hancock and Ian Mackenzie Jeffers penned the script for the film, which also stars Ashton Sanders, Laura Osma, Solly McLeod, and Omar Chaparro, among others.

Screen Daily now provides a first look at Sutherland in Sierra Madre, which they say is currently filming in Colombia. The image features Sutherland, sporting a beard and wearing a black jacket in a jungle-like environment, holding a submachine gun and looking worriedly at something off-screen. No other cast members are present in the image, unfortunately, but the star certainly looks right at home back in the action genre.

Whiplash Cast & Character Guide
Image
Whiplash's cast consists of some fantastic actors, both those who have gone on to bigger things and those who used to be - or still are - household names. By the time of Whiplash's climactic ending, each cast member chosen for the film proves why they were picked for the project, and why it is one of the more acclaimed movies of the 2010s regarding its acting abilities. While Whiplash is not based on a true story that sports real-life characters or locations, it was inspired by writer-director Damien Chazelle's time as a music student.

The film's story is about an aspiring drummer being pushed to his limits to be the best musician he can be by an abusive, threatening, demanding teacher. Eventually, Whiplash culminates in one of the best movie endings of all time, led by two outstanding central performances. This ending is a large factor...

Only Murders In The Building Season 4 Drops Three-Track Musical Sampler
Image
Only Murders In The Building season 4 has continued to win over the hearts and minds of audiences, and Screen Rant has a first listen to key selections from its soundtrack. The Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez crime comedy series has been helped along by music from Siddhartha Khosla since the first season and the composer once again returned to underscore the investigation into Sazz murder. Khoslas other work includes Nancy Drew, Elsbeth, and This Is Us, and he even won an Emmy Award for his work on Only Murders In The Building season 3.

Screen Rant is happy to present a first listen to a three-track sampler from the Only Murders In The Building season 4 soundtrack. Screen Rants Only Murders in the Building season 4 review praised the seasons personal stakes and said the show had rediscovered its creative spark, and the three tracks in the sampler sound fittingly creative and intimate.

Babygirl Cast & Character Guide: Who Stars Alongside Nicole Kidman In Erotic Thriller
Image
Thanks to its premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, Babygirl made waves ahead of its theatrical release and it helps that it boasts an all-star cast. Directed by Halina Reijn (Bodies Bodies Bodies), the Nicole Kidman-led erotic thriller centers on Romy, a high-powered CEO who finds herself entangled in a high-stakes affair with her much younger intern, Samuel (Harris Dickinson). Although Romy is mostly satisfied with her long-time marriage to Jacob (Antonio Banderas), something is missing when it comes to desire and sex. Hailed as one of the best erotic thrillers in years, Babygirl explores complex power dynamics.

Not only does the film feature an age-gap romance, but Babygirl plays with the characters' positions of power. While Kidman's Romy is in charge in the workplace, the ever-confident Samuel takes control elsewhere. The character-driven narrative easily makes Babygirl one of Nicole Kidman's best movies, though it also leaves ample room for Dickinson,...

Sri Lankan Project ‘Rabbit Hole’ Spotlights Social Divisions at Busan’s Asian Project Market
Image
Sri Lankan filmmaker Ilango Ram and producer Hiranya Perera are set to present their upcoming feature “Rabbit Hole” at Busan’s Asian Project Market, aiming to shed light on the persistent social stratification in their country.

The project, which explores the lives of Indian Tamils in Sri Lanka’s tea plantations and their role as domestic workers in middle-class households, stems from Ram’s personal connection to the community. “Witnessing Tamil maids employed across middle and upper class households evokes deep discomfort, prompting an honest exploration of pain and frustration,” Ram told Variety.

“Rabbit Hole” follows a middle-class Sri Lankan family whose life is disrupted when they learn their maid has cancer, leading to a series of events that expose underlying social tensions and culminate in a tragic climax.

Ram, whose previous film “Tentigo” won the special jury award at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, aims to delve into the...

Revisiting Nicole Kidman’s 5 Oscar nominations in honor of ‘Babygirl’
Image
Nicole Kidman could be on the verge of receiving her sixth acting Oscar bid for the upcoming A24 erotic thriller “Babygirl,” directed by Halina Reijn, best known for the indie film “Bodies Bodies Bodies” (2022). With the movie already making its premiere at the Venice International Film Festival and Kidman taking home the Volpi Cup for Best Actress, let’s take a closer look at her five previous Oscar nominations, including her one win.

Her first recognition came for the Baz Luhrmann jukebox musical “Moulin Rouge” (2001), where Kidman portrayed a cabaret performer and courtesan in love with an English poet. It is certainly one of her most physical performances, as she performs extravagant musical numbers and showcases strong emotions as her character Satine suffers through an illness. Kidman won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and was part of the movie’s eight Oscar nominations,...

AFI Life Achievement Award could be Oscar good luck charm for Nicole Kidman (‘Babygirl’)
Image
Although Nicole Kidman recently accepted the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award in recognition of her four-decade acting career, there is no indication that her life’s work is anywhere near finished. Indeed, according to Gold Derby’s racetrack odds, the 56-year-old is well on her way to picking up her sixth Oscar nomination for her lead performance in the critically acclaimed “Babygirl,” which would make her the 13th AFI honoree to subsequently earn film academy recognition in a competitive category.

The fact that Kidman’s life achievement award was presented by her pal and costar, Meryl Streep, is quite fitting given that she’s the only woman to go from being an AFI recipient to an Oscar contender. Since receiving the AFI honor in 2004, she has racked up a whopping eight bids, including a successful one for “The Iron Lady” (2012). A previous champ for “Kramer vs. Kramer” (1980) and...

‘Babygirl’: 5 reasons why Nicole Kidman will receive a Best Actress Oscar nomination
Image
The Best Actress race is already extremely stacked as we get closer to the 2025 awards season, with at least 10 significant contenders about to battle it out for only five slots at the Oscars. But if there’s one performance that is going to make it in, I believe it’s Nicole Kidman in “Babygirl,” written and directed by Halina Reijn. Why? Here are my top five reasons.

1. The performance.

Kidman gives a ferocious tour-de-force performance in “Babygirl,” which played at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals and is opening in theaters in December. Kidman plays a high-powered CEO named Romy who enters a relationship with an intern named Samuel (Harris Dickinson) and in turn puts her job and family in jeopardy. Romy makes questionable choices throughout the narrative, but Kidman always keeps her grounded and empathetic in what I believe is her best movie performance since 2010’s “Rabbit Hole.”

SEENicole Kidman is ‘bold,...

‘Whiplash’ at 10: Damien Chazelle and Miles Teller on Their Breakout Hit and How It Remains a ‘Barometer’ for Their Work Today
Image
One of the standout memories from my last semester of college was hearing the strong word-of-mouth around the breakout from that year’s Sundance Film Festival, “Whiplash.” I can remember the excitement around a new, potentially generational filmmaker bursting onto the scene, as well as an intense, young actor starting to make his mark in films like “Rabbit Hole,” “The Spectacular Now,” and now this. Moreover, having just binged the HBO prison drama “Oz,” I was thrilled by the possibility of one its ensemble cast members, J.K. Simmons, taking on a role that required him to lean on his more sociopathic abilities.

The first time I saw the film, winner of both the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize, it was followed by a Q&a with Simmons in which he spoke on the animalistic nature of his character, jazz instructor Terence Fletcher, and how, despite Damien Chazelle’s youthful appearance,...

Oscars Best Actress line-up filled with fictional characters for first time since 2011?
Image
It’s an often-touted cliche that a great way to win an Oscar is for a performer to portray a real-life person. Cillian Murphy won Best Actor earlier this year for playing J. Robert Oppenheimer in “Oppenheimer,” Jessica Chastain took home Best Actress in 2022 for her portrayal of Tammy Faye Bakker in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” and Rami Malek won Best Actor in 2019 for his depiction of Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

It’s curious, then, that Best Actress has often been rewarded to performers playing fictional characters rather than real people. Over the past decade, 28 of the 50 nominations have been for original turns, with a whopping seven of those winning out of 10. Here’s the complete breakdown.

Two out of 2024’s Best Actress nominees were nominated for playing fictional people. The others were Annette Bening (“Nyad”), Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), and Carey Mulligan (“Maestro”). However,...

If you’re missing The Night Agent, welcome to the club! Let’s cheer ourselves up by watching one (or all) of these seven shows like The Night Agent.

Okay, don’t hold your breath, but The Night Agent season 2 may be here by the end of 2024! As we reported earlier this month, Netflix may have quietly confirmed the release window for when season 2 of the action series The Night Agent will arrive. And, if true, it’s soon! On the official Instagram account for the series, a follower asked, “Is Season 2 approaching really really fast or is it just approaching…?” Yes, fellow fan! You’re asking the real questions here!

To our surprise, the account responded and shared that November is “the anticipated release.” So you’re telling me new episodes will be here by Thanksgiving? What a gift! But not so fast. The response from the account no longer appears.

Why An Evil Revival Might Be Tricky Explained By Star: "But I Wouldn't Rule It Out"
Image
Michael Emerson is open to a potential Evil revival, but thinks it might be challenging due to the expensive nature of the show. A cheaper production for the show may be risky, potentially hurting its overall quality and impact on viewers. Paramount+ and other platforms face unique challenges if they choose to revive Evil with shorter episodes and reduced costs.

With the show's end on the horizon, Michael Emerson shares his thoughts on a potential Evil revival following the show's final season. After one successful season on CBS, followed by two acclaimed seasons on Paramount+, the supernatural drama about a team of assessors for the Catholic Church investigating purported paranormal events was revealed to be ending with its new season. Evil season 4's story has seen David, Ben and Kristen grappling with an increase in seemingly supernatural outbreaks in New York City, as well as Leland raising the supposed Antichrist.
