Part of me was hoping that 'Dangerous Game' may be marginally better than expected, even if it was still not a good film, and not be as bad as all that. Have been known to go against the grain, whether feeling a panned film is not that bad or an acclaimed not that good, though certainly think far more highly of critics than most do here and will never resort to bashing them. Seeing it, unfortunately 'Dangerous Game' is that bad and do have to completely agree with the many people (barely any positive opinions) that feel the same. Saying that it's bad is being far too kind, and quite insulting to the word bad, would call it irredeemably awful and the reasons why have been summed up well already so not an awful lot to add really.
'Dangerous Game' looks amateurish visually, with such a drab look and one can really tell from the complete lack of slickness that the film was made in a hurry and with no real care or love. The audio constantly sounded like it couldn't be figured out what volume to record it at and is balanced poorly on both extremes of over-bearing and flat.
The script from the first line to the last is forced and as soggy as wet socks when caught in heavy rain. There is nothing in the story that's interesting or surprising, there are no thrills, no suspense or sense of jeopardy. Everything feels so easily telegraphed well before it happens, the atmosphere is bland and the storytelling can be confusing to the point sometimes of incoherence as it goes off on a tangent more times than one can count.
None of the characters are interesting let alone worth rooting for. The character development is next to none and the relationships have no charm or tension, plus never really build or properly establish themselves. Many of them are stereotypes behaving in an irritating and sometimes illogical way, with the villains being more unintentionally comical than threatening. The acting all round is poor at best, headed by a completely charisma and likeability-deprived Calum Best.
All in all, awful. 1/10 Bethany Cox
If you feel bored beyond recognition, it's better to stick your head in the toilet, rather than watching this movie.
The script seems forced and comedic value is lacking to say the least. The Russian accents weren't great and as such it was hard to take the mafia scenes seriously at all.
I also find it interesting how the name of the film was changed after production from 'name of the game' to 'dangerous game', making it appear that they wish to hide bad reviews from its original viewings
