In typical Netflix fashion, the streaming giant is already gearing up for the removal of several favorites, including some high-profile movies, series, and a couple of Netflix Originals, ahead of next month. Among these works of art is the beloved isekai anime series, Overlord, as confirmed by What’s on Netflix. All four seasons of Overlord depart Netflix on July 1, about three weeks away, which may not be enough time for fans to revisit the 52-episode series.

While this may be saddening, several other options are available to stream Overlord. Crunchyroll currently streams all four seasons but may not be as easily accessible as Netflix. Hulu offers Overlord, too, but unfortunately, only Season 1 is available on the streamer. Meanwhile, for physical media collectors, retailers list each collection for around $30-40, depending on the format.

Arrow has revealed its June slate, and it’s a characteristically eclectic mix of the brutal, the bizarre and the barely-seen. From grisly Korean thrillers and resurrected Japanese ghost tales to European horrors and cult cinema favourites, the curated streaming platform continues to expand its niche appeal with a line-up tailored to lovers of the extreme and unconventional.

Kicking off the month is Devils, a slick South Korean thriller featuring a body swap between a detective and the serial killer he has spent years chasing. It arrives alongside Body Parts, a five-part anthology soaked in ritualistic horror and dread, both streaming from 6 June. Together, they lead Arrow’s newly launched Killer K-Horror season, a collection that also includes the underseen zombie satire Zombie for Sale.

From 9 June, viewers can return to Takashi Miike’s gonzo Western Sukiyaki Western Django, the 2007 cult mash-up that blends Leone-styled shootouts with operatic samurai drama.

It’s an adaptation that fails its source material in nearly every way, but it also fails as a straightforward horror film.

Whistle, the latest film by The Nun director Corin Hardy, has been acquired by Independent Film Company (IFC Films) and Shudder. Whistle stars Logan's Dafne Keen,, as well as Nick Frost, Sky Yang, Sophie Nélisse, and Percy Hynes White. Although there's no release date yet, the film is set to play in theaters, and after that, it will likely stream on Shudder, the horror-exclusive platform.

James Wan, the mastermind behind The Conjuring, had a very different name in mind when he envisioned the first Conjuring film. The filmmaker initially named it The Warren Files and even revealed it in one of his interviews. He saw the story as part of a much larger world, one that revolved around the strange and terrifying cases of Ed and Lorraine Warren. However, that broader vision never quite made it into the film’s title, but the spirit of it clings to every entry in what has now become a full-fledged horror franchise.

Building the Conjuring Universe, One Case at a Time

By the time The Conjuring 2 rolled around, it was clear this wasn’t just a series of loosely connected horror stories. It was a world, one bound by the Warrens’ investigations.

As The Conjuring franchise comes to an end with the upcoming sequel,The Conjuring: Last Rites, horror fans still have many questions about the arc that will serve as the conclusion of the Warrens' demon-busting journey. However, if you thought that Vera and Taissa Farmiga's characters would finally appear together on-screen, we got bad news. Vera's Lorraine Warren and Taissa's Sister Irene are not set to meet on Last Rites, and there's a very good reason for this.

Director Michael Chaves spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the sisters in real life having their character arcs converge in the upcoming movie, and while it was thought to be a possibility at some point, it is just not happening. Apparently, it is due to some legal issues related to the "true" stories that back The Conjuring's plots:

Warner Bros. released the first official trailer for The Conjuring: Last Rites on Thursday, which marks the fourth and final Conjuring movie. However, it’s not necessarily the last in the franchise.

This Conjuring film, like the others, is inspired by the real-life case files of paranormal investigators and couple, Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga). This time, it follows the 1986 Smurl case, a family who was tormented by a demon for more than a decade.

The official trailer for “The Conjuring: Last Rites” shows paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) back in action as they tackle another frightening case. This time, Wilson and Farmiga are joined by Ben Hardy (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) and Mia Tomlinson (“The Beast Must Die”), who are new to the franchise.

While the first two “Conjuring” movies were helmed by James Wan, both “The Devil Made Me Do It” and “Last Rites” feature Michael Chaves in the director’s chair. He has also directed other films in the “Conjuring” universe, including “The Curse of La Llorona” and “The Nun II.” The screenplay for “Last Rites” was written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who shares a story credit with Wan.

“The Conjuring” movies are loosely based on real-life cases that the Warrens investigated in their career, with the sequel taking on the Enfield Poltergeist in London.

The fourth (and supposedly final) film in The Conjuring series started with the 2013 movie is supposedly coming to an end with The Conjuring: Last Rites, due in theaters this September. But while the mainline movies centering around demonologist couple Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) Warren might be coming to an end, that doesn't mean the overarching The Conjuring Universe is finished.

While The Conjuring: Last Rites won’t necessarily mark the end of the franchise – rather, it’s said to be the ending of the universe’s “phase one” – this year’s upcoming sequel will (allegedly) mark the final Conjuring movie to star Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren. The long-awaited Gargoyleslive-action reboot is slowly but surely emerging from the stone. Showrunner Gary Dauberman gave an exciting update on the new series to ComicBook.com, which should please devotees of the cult-classic animated series. Says Dauberman, "I will say that if you are a fan of the show, you will be very happy with how I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel with that one."

Dauberman does not intend to stray too far from the original series, which originally aired in syndication from 1994 to 1997. Says Dauberman, "I feel like we have the animated series already. The cartoon is so good. It’s so good. That’s what we fell in love with. I think it lends itself to a really cool live-action version." He intends to hew to the tone of the series, which was at times extremely dark for a kid-aimed action cartoon: "We are still keeping that darkness to it.

The word-of-mouth for Until Dawn hasn’t been great, with Sony’s video game adaptation currently “rotten” on Rotten Tomatoes with a 53% Tomatometer score. The film’s audience score is a bit higher at 69%, but most fans and critics seem to agree that the film misses the mark and doesn’t satisfyingly translate the video game into a terrifying big screen experience.

"Until Dawn," the return to the horror genre for "Lights Out" and "Annabelle: Creation" director David F. Sandberg (whose talents have been wasted in the superhero space for the past few years), doesn't play coy about wanting a sequel. 

In the movie's climax, the story's mysterious villain, Dr. Hill (played by Peter Stormare), violently explodes into guts and viscera after drinking a cup of coffee that was poisoned by our protagonist, Clover (Ella Rubin). The day has been saved, trauma has been confronted, closure has been achieved, and our heroes drive off into the metaphorical sunset. But the film ends with someone whistling the same tune Dr. Hill had whistled several times throughout, implying that he somehow survived his explosive death.
