CBS All Access‘ limited series adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Stand” will premiere Dec. 17, the streamer announced Tuesday.

The series will be a weekly one, with each of the subsequent eight episodes streaming one at a time every Thursday following that premiere. As previously announced, King penned the finale and also wrote a new coda that will take the story beyond where is 800-plus page 1978 tome left things.

“During the two years we spent making ‘The Stand,’ we all felt the responsibility of adapting what may be the most beloved work of one of the world’s most beloved storytellers, but none of us could have imagined that Stephen King’s 40-year-old masterpiece about a global pandemic would come to be so eerily relevant,” said showrunner Benjamin Cavell. “We’re honored to tell this sprawling, epic story, including a new coda that Stephen King has wanted to add for decades.

It’s a good time to be a Stephen King fan. Movies and TV shows based on his body of work are hot property right now, and on top of that, the acclaimed horror writer has just announced a new novel.

Revealed through the author’s Twitter account, his latest book is titled Later and it will be a pulpy crime-thriller with undertones of It. Titan Books will publish the title as part of its ‘Hard Case Crime’ series, which also includes the King novels The Colorado Kid and Joyland.

Along with the book’s title, the author also revealed its retro-style cover artwork and a release date of March next year. See for yourself below:

We may be currently living through Stephen King’s The Stand, but come March, the acclaimed horror novelist promises a new narrative — at least in terms of fiction. Monday, he teased a new book titled Later with the tagline: “Only the dead have no secrets.”

Jason Segel, the creator, writer, director, producer and star of the innovative AMC series Dispatches From Elsewhere, said it straight out during Deadline’s Contenders Television virtual event: he is essentially playing himself.

“My character starts out not knowing who he is and by the 10th episode I become Jason Segel – literally by name. I wanted to write something from my gut. It became really important to me when I looked at what I was doing and where I was going in my life and career to try to challenge myself, to make something that felt like a piece of art. It had been a long time,“ he said of the AMC series, which is based on a documentary called The Institute and involves four characters on a kind of unending scavenger hunt that reveals more about themselves than they ever bargained for.

He describes it all as art in the act of defiance.

Jason Segel, Eve Lindley and André Benjamin joined the Variety Streaming Room for a Q&a after a screening of the first episode from their new TV series, “Dispatches From Elsewhere.” Moderated by Variety senior editor Michael Schneider, the stars discussed the making of the series, their connection to their characters and what they hope the audience takes away from the show.

“Dispatches From Elsewhere” was created by Segel and premiered March 1 on AMC. As the spooky, surprise-filled ride that was Jason Segel’s “Dispatches From Elsewhere” came to an end for viewers last month with a finale that actually incorporated some of those viewers. Mark Friedman, showrunner for AMC's mysterious Dispatches from Elsewhere, says the show is about the beauty of the world.

Nobody really knows how to fully describe AMC drama Dispatches from Elsewhere…not even the person tasked with shepherding it.

“My agent at the time read the script and was like, ‘This is crazy. Are you sure?’” showrunner Mark Friedman says. “And that was kind of what I liked about it. It's a risk. What makes you nervous is what makes something appealing, at least to me.”

Alex Ross Perry (“Her Smell”) will write and direct the adaptation of Stephen King’s best-seller “The Dark Half” for MGM, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

The story had been previously turned into a 1993 MGM film, which starred Timothy Hutton. It followed an author whose crime thrillers under a pseudonym sold better than the books written with his real name. Once his pseudonym is exposed, he decides to give his other ego a burial, but things start turning sinister as the alter ego has taken on a life of its own.

King wrote the book based on his own experiences when it was revealed he was writing thriller novels under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. Those novels included “Thinner,” “Running Man,” “Rage” and “The Long Walk.”

Spyglass Media and Eagle Pictures have teamed up to produce an English-language adaptation of Paolo Genovese’s Italian film “Perfetti Sconosciuti,” with “Insecure” star and co-creator Issa Rae attached to write, produce and star in the comedy.

The film, “Perfect Strangers,” centers around a dinner party in which a group of friends decide to play a risky game where they place their phones face-up on the table and agree to make all texts and phone calls public in an attempt to prove they have nothing to hide. The film takes a comedic approach to dealing with the friendship, love and betrayal that forces the friends to confront the fact that they may actually be “perfect strangers.”

“I’m really looking forward to bringing this funny and compelling story to a new demographic and could not be happier about partnering with the Spyglass team to make it happen,” Rae said in a statement.

It’s just a field, right? That’s the entire premise to “In the Tall Grass,” a horror movie based on a Stephen King novella in which a group of people get lost in a massive, dense, grassy prairie and find themselves unable to escape.

King wrote the novella originally published in two parts in Esquire magazine in 2012 along with his son, Joe Hill. It’s the story of two inseparable siblings who hear the cries of a young boy lost within a tall field of grass. But when they venture in to rescue him, they find themselves ensnared by a sinister force that quickly disorients and separates them.

Stephen King's The Institute is becoming a limited series from the creative team behind Mr. Mercedes.

Stephen King's latest novel, The Institute, which hit shelves on Sept. 10, is already becoming a TV series, according to Deadline. Spyglass Media Group is developing the limited series, with the Mr. Mercedes creative team of David E. Kelly and Jack Bender attached to the project. Bender is set to direct the adaptation from a script by Kelly.

"I’m delighted to be working with Jack and David, the creative team behind Mr. Mercedes," King said in a statement. "We think alike, and I believe The Institute is going to be a great success."

Hot off the presses and having just hit store shelves today, Stephen King's The Institute is already being developed as a limited series adaptation.

Multiple sources, including The Hollywood Reporter, reveal that a limited series adaptation of Stephen King's The Institute is in development at Spyglass Media Group, with David E. Kelley set to write and executive produce the adaptation, and Jack Bender slated to direct and executive produce the project.

No stranger to the world of Stephen King, Kelley and Bender have worked together on AT&T Audience Network's Mr. Mercedes series, which premieres its third season tonight. Bender is also executive producing the upcoming limited series based on King's 2018 novel, The Outsider.

Spyglass Media Group, LLC announced that it has optioned King’s “The Institute,” attaching Emmy Award winners David E. Kelley (“Big Little Lies”) to adapt and executive produce the limited series with Jack Bender (“Lost”) serving as director and executive producer.

King’s “The Institute” is centered on a young boy with special abilities who, along with several other children, are trapped by a group of adults dedicated to extracting their powers.

Following the announcement that Stephen King's next novel, The Institute, will be released this September, Entertainment Weekly has now unveiled the official cover art and an excerpt for the Firestarter-esque book.

EW exclusively revealed the cover art for The Institute, which you can view below. EW also revealed the first excerpt, so if you'd like to get an idea of what to expect, be sure to visit their website.

According to StephenKing.com, The Institute clocks in at 576 pages and will be released in hardcover and eBook on Tuesday, September 10th. Cover art has yet to be revealed. Here's the full synopsis below (via StephenKing.com):

Korin Huggins and Monique Nash’s Kronicle Media is teaming up with Matt Nicholas’ Rebel Maverick Productions and producer Manaal Khan to develop a series based on an upcoming Ya book by Dana L. Davis.

The novel is titled “Tiffany Sly Lives Here Now.” It revolves around Tiffany Sly, a sixteen-year old, whose life hasn’t been safe or normal for a while. Traumatized after losing her mom to cancer, she must leave everything she knows to live with the biological father she’s never even met. To complicate things, Tiffany has a secret: another man also claims he’s her father and she only has seven days to figure out the truth. The novel will be released on May 1 from publisher Harlequin Teen.

Some of these shows have been around for quite some time, and others made their debut in 2017.

A couple of them have ended or were canceled, or may, unfortunately, be on their way towards cancellation, but one thing they all have in common is that they all are fantastic shows that are criminally underrated.

Starting today, horror fans can check into The Institute at theaters and on VOD via Momentum Pictures, and we caught up with co-director Pamela Romanowsky to discuss collaborating with co-director James Franco, the movie's unique filming location, and much more.

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Pamela. What attracted you to telling this story by Adam and Matt Rager?

Pamela Romanowsky: Well, the first question for me was “why a horror film?” I like films across lots of genres, but I’m not a horror buff, so this was a first for me. The horror films I do love are genre blending, movies that are character-based and explore things that are dark but still based in reality, and in the dark corners of human psychology. I’ve never really been scared of the supernatural, but people are certainly capable of terrifying and very dark things.

If you thought you’d had enough James Franco already — since December, three movies starring the actor/director have hit the big screen (“Why Him?,” “In Dubious Battle,” “The Institute“) with “The Disaster Artist” premiering at SXSW this month — get ready for a double dose. “The Wire” and “Treme” creator David Simon‘s highly anticipated “The Deuce” is on the way, and we have our first look at Franco times two in the series.

As Isabel in The Institute, Allie Gallerani experiences unconventional treatments at the hands of Dr. Cairn (James Franco). With Momentum Pictures releasing The Institute in theaters and on VOD this Friday, March 3rd, we caught up with Gallerani for our latest Q&A feature to discuss working with Franco, the influence of Penny Dreadful, and much more.

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Allie. What attracted you to playing the role of Isabel Porter in The Institute?

Allie Gallerani: I was drawn to Isabel’s strength, intelligence, and curiosity. These traits were not valued in Victorian society, so she feels like a bit of an outsider. I love playing characters who are a little bit stubborn and challenge accepted norms. As an actor, I’m always intrigued by a character’s transformation and Isabel’s is monumental.

Did any other films or performances inspire...

Genre fans should get excited, as March’s VOD releases are a stellar bunch and should keep you busy through the entire month. Things kick off with Mike Mendez’s Don’t Kill It and The Institute, which was co-directed by James Franco. March 7th is a busy day, with five VOD releases—Bloodrunners, Devil in the Dark, Galaxy of Horrors, Johnny Frank Garrett’s Last Word, and The Lesson—and both Elle and The Devil’s Candy make their digital debuts the following week.

Prevenge rounds out March’s digital releases, as it has been exclusively picked up by the fine folks at Shudder, and other notable VOD releases for the month include Lavender (which expands from its exclusive Dish premiere in February), Passengers, Atomica, and House on Willow Street.
