A Feisty New Romance Series Is Taking Over Netflix's Tops Charts
Image
Feisty romance and streaming platforms go together like true crime and ... er, streaming platforms. Over on Netflix, Sofia Carson can't miss when it comes to romantic movies, having dominated the streamer's charts with both 2025's "The Life List" and 2022's "Purple Hearts." Meanwhile, Hulu has seen success with its fantasy romance series "The Legend of the Blue Sea." But the reigning champion of feisty romantic fare is currently Prime Video, having seemingly perfected the trashy romantic streaming movie with "My Fault: London," the English-language remake of a Spanish romantic drama.

With that film, the all-powerful algorithm spoke through the Prime Video execs to green-light the ultimate, viewing metric-guided romantic drama. Now, however, there's competition in the form of Netflix's "The Royals." In fairness, "The Royals" isn't really direct competition to Prime Video's romantic drama. For one thing, it's a series rather than a movie, and for another, it comes from India,...

How To Watch The Best K-Dramas For Free
Image
After the enormous success of shows like "Squid Game" with international audiences, streaming services have steadily been building up their libraries of K-dramas. The common term for scripted television produced in South Korea, no matter the genre, K-dramas continue to win over viewers worldwide. And while platforms like Apple TV+ and Netflix certainly have a great selection of K-dramas to watch, there is a service where fans can legally stream Korean shows for free. In fact, the American streaming platform Rakuten Viki has consistently offered great foreign programming in its library, including an impressive array of K-dramas to check out.

To be clear, Rakuten Viki does feature a paid subscription option for those interested in an ad-free viewing experience, with a wider library and higher video quality for select programming. But the free user model offers an impressive library of K-dramas to choose from, for those looking to watch Korean...

The Fantasy Romance Series That K-Drama Fans Will Love On Hulu
Image
A classic Korean fairy tale involves a mermaid who falls in love with a fisherman, with this premise adapted and modernized in the 2016 K-drama "The Legend of the Blue Sea." Currently available to stream on Hulu, the series is divided into two narratives, one set in Korea's medieval Joseon era, and the other in the present-day. Reuniting the core couple at the center of these two time periods is reincarnation, with their star-crossed romance reborn through time and tragedy. This dual-narrative approach lets "The Legend of the Blue Sea" weave in a number of classic K-drama themes and tropes while presenting a thoroughly entertaining and unique story.

During the Joseon Dynasty, young nobleman Kim Dam-ryeong (Lee Min-ho) falls in love with mermaid Se-hwa (Jun Ji-hyun). Centuries later, Dam-ryeong has been reincarnated into a con artist named Heo Joon-jae, while a reincarnated Se-hwa takes on the name Shim Cheong after being smitten with the handsome human.

One Major Change Would Have Helped Queen of Tears Finale To Stick The Landing
Image
Rushed final episodes of "Queen of Tears" dull the incredible moments built up throughout the series. 16-episode format hindered the finale's impact, suggesting a 20-episode structure would have been more suitable. Pacing issues in the finale of "Queen of Tears" detracted from the emotional impact of the final moments.

Despite an incredible lead-up to the last two episodes, Queen of Tears finale could not maintain its momentum. The final episodes of Queen of Tears saw the conclusion of Hong Hae-in and Baek Hyun-woos turbulent love story, which led them from marriage to divorce and back again and gave fans the happy ending that, for a long time, never felt possible. However, despite Queen of Tears ending being a great homage to Hae-in and Hyun-woos love, the lead-up to their final moments had one major flaw.

K-Dramas Likes ‘My Demon’ To Watch
Image
The K-drama world has been taken by the storm that is Netflix’s My Demon. The show is the perfect blend of old-school fantasy tropes and modern K-drama trends, making it exactly right for both old fans and new ones. Many called 2023 the year of K-drama redemption thanks to shows like My Demon, which are loved by all. I suppose it is true in some ways because many who had stopped watching Korean dramas started watching them again because of a sense of nostalgia and fun that the new shows brought with them. Netflix has in many ways hijacked the industry, and for the most part, they have a specific type of K-dramas that work on the platform; however, in 2023, we’ve seen them bring in more and more shows in the Netflix original category that venture into the typical K-drama atmosphere. My Demon is reminiscent of the old fantasy...

Goblin: Why This Is Still the Most Rewatchable K-Drama of All Time
Image
Korean dramas have become a staple of the Asian television industry thanks to their ever-growing coverage of various genres such as romance, fantasy, action, thriller, and melodrama. Over the past two decades, many successful dramas, including The Legend of the Blue Sea, Healer, and Crash Landing on You, have all made significant contributions in elevating these dramas to new heights, resulting in many more stories being adapted to the television screens.

Goblin, otherwise known as Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, is one such pioneering K-drama that set the standard exceptionally high for the subsequent dramas released throughout the years. Nevertheless, only a scant few have managed to provide a similar experience to Goblin, making it one of its kind. So, what differentiates this drama from several other Korean dramas recently airing on streaming platforms? And why does it get better with each rewatch?

10 Shocking Plot Twists That Ruined K-Dramas
Image
The childhood friends trope in "Her Private Life" turned off viewers as it seemed random and lacked importance to the overall plot. The undercover cop trope in "Heartless City" decreased the seriousness of the show, making the villains seem less threatening. The memory wipe twist in "Legend of the Blue Sea" felt redundant and melodramatic, leaving viewers questioning the character's actions and beliefs.

There is nothing worse than devoting time and energy to a k-drama, only for an unnecessary plot twist to come and taint the series altogether. Oftentimes, these plot twists are completely out of left field, and worse, have no real effect on the plot or the characters. While it may seem like more drama can never hurt in a k-drama, in these cases, it not only hurt the show, but completely changed the way audiences look at these k-dramas.

The following plot twists are ten of the worst to appear in k-dramas.
