This show is a spin-off series to El Señor de Los Cielos.
Mexican actor Rafael Amaya (Aurelio Casillas) also portrays the same character in the Telemundo series El Señor de los Cielos (2013), Señora Acero (2014) and the Netflix series Reine du Sud (2016), his character being based on real-life drug lord Amado Carrillo Fuentes who was known as "The Lord of the Skies" because of the fleet of planes he used to transport drugs. Fuentes died in a Mexican hospital in July 1997 after undergoing extensive plastic surgery in an attempt to alter his appearance.
