At the 2025 Nantucket Film Festival, Joanna Calo was one of the three writers honored during the event’s signature celebration, Screenwriters Tribute, hosted by Michael Ian Black.

Calo, a writer on “The Bear” and “Thunderbolts*,” received the Excellence in Television Writing award, presented by “The Bear” star Lionel Boyce; “Andor” creator Tony Gilroy was honored by the Visionary Storyteller Award, presented by writer/director Scott Frank; and award-winning documentary director Alex Gibney was given the Special Achievement in Documentary Stroytelling honor. Lady Danbury Has All the Power Yet Bridgerton Keeps Sidelining Her in Favor of Whiny Rich Kids Every Season
Image
If scandal is the lifeblood of the Ton, then let’s talk about its shady cousin called injustice. After all, one character from Netflix’s Bridgerton has been repeatedly getting shoved into the corner, while the Bridgerton and Featherington siblings cried into their lace handkerchiefs over suitors, scandals, and brand-new gowns.

Yes, we’re talking about Lady Danbury—the woman who has been running the damn show without ever needing to raise her voice. And yet, season after season, this regal icon is pushed to the background, with the spotlight repeatedly getting focused on the young heirs. It’s high time Bridgerton looked closely at the true diamond of every season.

Image
Bridgerton has no shortage of iconic characters, but let’s be honest, Lady Danbury is as iconic as it can get. While the Bridgertons have certainly charmed and wooed the audience, anyone who has even seen a single episode of the Netflix series cannot deny that it is Lady Danbury who is the undisputed queen of Bridgerton!

For three seasons, we have witnessed her change entire rule books, manipulate, and gaslight while being the absolute Og Girlboss!

From manipulating the narrative with a flick of her cane to her razor-sharp wit that just keeps getting better, it is high time we give Lady D the credit she deserves.

Britt Robertson’s Petite Power: How She Elevates Her Style With Heels
Image
At 5ft 2 ½ (158.8 cm) with a US shoe size of 6, Britt Robertson knows how to make a stylish statement on the red carpet. Whether she’s stepping out in elegant designer heels or rocking a youthful, edgy look, the actress always puts her best foot forward.

Britt Robertson looks noticeably petite in a bright yellow Christopher Kane Fall 2019 mini dress with voluminous skirts, standing beside Kj Apa, Shania Twain, and Gary Sinise at the I Still Believe premiere on March 7, 2020, at the ArcLight Hollywood (Credit: Faye’s Vision / Cover Images)

A self-proclaimed tomboy growing up, Britt once said, “I tried to play every sport. I wasn’t great at most of them, but at least I tried!”—but when it comes to fashion, she’s clearly mastered the game. From strappy stilettos at the Tomorrowland premiere in Tokyo to bold red-carpet moments at For the People promotions, Britt’s shoe choices never fail to impress.

‘The Merry Gentlemen’ Review: A Shirtless Chad Michael Murray Can’t Spice Up This Cold Netflix Holiday Rom-Com
Image
We know you remember the photos seen on the ‘gram: Chad Michael Murray, shirtless, cowboy-hatted, and doing a body roll. Perhaps you screen-shotted them, too. Alas, no matter how excited you might be for Murray’s resurgence as a Hollywood hunk it’s not enough to make his latest feature “The Merry Gentlemen” even sizzle.

“The Merry Gentlemen” opens with a not-so-merry woman, Ashley (Britt Robertson), an aging Jingle Belle dancer. The pseudo-Rockette is given the boot by her boss, and right before the big holiday season. That’s how Ashley ends up back in her hometown, where she’s promptly deemed “city girl” for ditching the Big Apple.

It’s there where Ashley runs into Luke (Murray), the local bar owner and handyman who — thanks to Ashley’s suggestion — also now moonlights as a shirtless dancer. Seeing his abs inspires Ashley to make a pivot of her own, as...

Louise Fletchers Star Trek: DS9 Villain Kai Winn Explained
Image
Kai Winn Adami, played by Academy Award winner Louise Fletcher, was memorable as one of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's most insidious villains. With one of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's primary themes being faith, Kai Winn was corrupted by political self-interest and jealousy as the elected spiritual leader of Bajor. As an antagonist, Kai Winn starkly contrasted the way Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) slowly accepted his role as Emissary of the Prophets and embraced Bajor, and how Major Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor) redefined her own personal relationship to the Bajoran faith as DS9's Dominion War raged on.

First appearing in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's season 1 finale, "In the Hands of the Prophets", Winn Adami was a strict, orthodox Bajoran Vedek concerned about Keiko O'Brien's (Rosalind Chao) secular teaching style at DS9's school. After the death of Kai Opaka (Camille Saviola), Vedek Winn...

Mother's Day: Is Britt Robertson Related To Julia Roberts?
Image
Despite playing mother and daughter in "Mother's Day," Julia Roberts and Britt Robertson are not related in real life. Julia Roberts is an idol to Britt Robertson, who cited "Pretty Woman" as her favorite childhood movie. Working with Roberts on "Mother's Day" was a dream come true for Robertson, who had a positive experience with the veteran actress.

After the two actresses appeared together in Mother's Day, people began to wonder, is Britt Robertson related to Julia Roberts? Released in 2016, Mother's Day is a romantic dramedy directed by Garry Marshall. The movie takes place in Atlanta, Georgia in the days leading up to the eponymous day, and centers on an ensemble of characters' interconnected storylines, including Roberts' Miranda and Robertson's Kristin. Mother's Day is the third film in Marshall's unofficial holiday movie trilogy, alongside 2010's Valentine's Day and 2011's New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, none of these movies were particularly well-reviewed,...

The Canceled Netflix Series Fans Desperately Tried To Save
Image
In a world replete with quick-spreading disinformation and the subsequent, dangerous proliferation of kooky conspiracy theories, the 2021 animated series "Inside Job" — created by Shion Takeuchi (a writer on "Gravity Falls" and "Disenchantment") — was perfectly timed. "Inside Job" posited that every single conspiracy theory you've ever heard — whether it be Reptilians, JFK, the Mandela effect, the flat Earth, or the faked moon landing — were all 100 percent real. Clones were out there, severed heads were being kept alive in labs, and aliens regularly visited Earth. Just like in "The X-Files," ordinary citizens weren't allowed access to this knowledge.

Earth's conspiracies were overseen by a mysterious underground organization called Cognito, Inc., one of six major shadow governments secretly in charge of the world. The other five were the Catholic Church, the Illuminati, Atlantis, the Reptoids, and the Juggalos (tee hee). The central joke of "Inside Job" was that Cognito, Inc. was staffed by flawed,...

Netflix's 5 New TV Show Cancellations Double Down On A Massive Subscriber Complaint
Image
Netflix has recently canceled five original TV shows, including two live-action and three animated shows, sparking complaints from subscribers. Most of the canceled shows only made it to one season, which has been a consistent trend with Netflix's cancellations. The streaming service may be risking the potential growth of its shows by canceling them too soon, as many successful TV series took time to find their footing in later seasons.

Netflix has canceled a grand total of five original TV shows in one fell swoop, and it doubles down on one of the biggest complaints from the streaming service’s subscriber base. The streamer has canceled two live-action shows, Glamorous and Shadow and Bone, as well as three animated shows: Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall. Shadow and Bone is a fantasy series based on the Y.A. books by Leigh Bardugo; it made it to two seasons before being canceled ahead of a third.

Why the ‘Single Drunk Female’ Cancellation Stings 10 Years After ‘Girls’ — and Leaves a Devastating Void of Millennial Sitcoms
Image
The millennial women-led series is dead. Long live the millennials.

It wasn’t exactly surprising when Freeform’s beloved critically acclaimed “Single Drunk Female” was canceled this month after just two seasons and immediately pulled from Hulu. Sure, Freeform touted the sitcom as the highest-rated original comedy during the New York City Season 2 premiere before the series returned with all new episodes on Hulu in April. But its cancellation is just one of the many reminders that networks don’t invest long-term in women-fronted shows that focus on “messy” millennial women.

While we pour one out for “Single Drunk Female,” it’s best to trace the series back to its roots with Lena Dunham and executive producer Jenni Konner’s explosively disruptive HBO series “Girls,” which celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2022. After that massive hit, why has TV abandoned the generation of people who grew up watching “Girls”?

There are...

Oscar Winner Louise Fletcher Dead At 88
Image
Award-winning actress Louise Fletcher has died at age 88.

Deadline reports that news of her death was announced Friday, Sept. 23 by her family via agent David Shaul.

While no cause of death was specified, Shaul told the outlet that Fletcher passed away in her sleep, surrounded by family, at the home she had built from a 300-year-old farmhouse in Montdurausse, France. Earlier on Friday, she said to her family about her home, “I can’t believe I created something so meaningful to my well-being.”

Fletcher won the Best Actress Oscar at the 1976 Academy Awards for her portrayal of sadistic Nurse Ratched in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, a role that remains her best-known; the character was successfully resurrected in 2020 for the Netflix series “Ratched”, which told the her backstory.

Louise Fletcher, Oscar-Winning One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Actor, Has Died
Image
Louise Fletcher, best known for her Academy Award-winning role as Nurse Ratched in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," has died at the age of 88. Fletcher's family confirmed to Deadline through her agent that she died in her sleep at her home in Montdurausse, France, on Friday.

Fletcher was born to deaf parents in Birmingham, Alabama, on July 23, 1934. She learned to speak and act from her aunt at the age of 8, and attended the University of North Carolina before a cross-country trip left her marooned in L.A. (per Variety). While the reviews for Amazon Prime's Cinderella (2021) have been mixed at best so far, one thing that most audience members can appreciate is that the film has fantastic musical numbers. Netflix Has Cancelled 56 Original TV Shows So Far
Netflix has produced many hit TV shows over the past seven years, ever since they started pumping out their own original programming. However, the streaming service has developed a reputation for not letting its series go on for too long. Fans know to be wary of getting attached to their favorite new Netflix shows as they could be unceremoniously cancelled after one or two seasons.

Earlier today, for instance, Hilary Swank vehicle Away was given the chop by the company after just a single outing. This makes it the 56th original series that Netflix has cancelled. That number only includes shows that were original to the platform and produced in-house, so it doesn’t count pick-ups like Lucifer, for example. Those series luckily enough to end on the creators’ own terms, such as House of Cards, are likewise not included. Shows that were axed by Netflix before being picked up elsewhere,...

Netflix Have Canceled Over 20 Shows After Just One Season
Image
Netflix have been facing the wrath of their subscribers recently after canceling I Am Not Okay With This and The Society after just one season, despite originally renewing both for a second run. Fans instantly went online to criticize the streaming service for their decision and launch petitions to try and bring them back, but there’s no chance that the company will change their mind.

Having pledged to spend almost $20 billion on original content this year alone, the financial effects that the Coronavirus pandemic is wreaking on the global economy will force Netflix to tighten their belt, which is also reportedly one of the major reasons why expensive sci-fi series Altered Carbon was canned as well.

By churning out so many in-house movies and TV shows on an annual basis, a lot of them are bound to fall through the cracks, and if the projects in question don’t...
