Sony Offering 5 Great PS4 Games For Less Than $2 Each
Image
So frequently does Sony hold sales for numerous games in the PlayStation 4‘s incredibly vast digital library that we feel it’s probably easier at this point to tell you those that aren’t currently discounted in one form or another. But then if we were to do that, you could end up missing out on some seriously fantastic deals encompassing literally hundreds of titles.

As of writing, all PlayStation owners with an internet connection have access to three store-wide promotions, all with varying end dates. Now that Halloween has come to a close for yet another year, today marks your final chance to get some suitably-themed horror games on the cheap. Sony’s official website lists that sale’s end date as November 2nd, though, so do note that there’s every chance the period has already concluded by the time you read this.

Review: Three Christs is a Fascinating Exploration of the Mysteries of the Human Mind
According to Healthline, a delusion of grandeur is “a person’s belief that they are someone other than who they are, such as a supernatural figure or a celebrity. A delusion of grandeur may also be a belief that they have special abilities, possessions, or powers.” There are different types of delusions, including religious, where one can believe that they are a religious figure. From the director of Fried Green Tomatoes comes a story that discusses such a false belief.

Delusions of grandeur have been explored in films before. The most recent film that comes to mind is Glass, where Sarah Paulson’s psychiatrist specializes in such delusions and tries to convince her patients that they only believe they are superhuman and hold no powers. But unlike Glass, Jon Avnet’s latest film, Three Christs, is a spiritual tale of God versus nature and God versus science, as a doctor...

Richard Gere, Peter Dinklage, Walton Goggins, and Bradley Whitford in Three Christs (2017)
‘Three Christs’: Richard Gere, Julianna Margulies Help Shine Light on Mental Illness
Richard Gere, Peter Dinklage, Walton Goggins, and Bradley Whitford in Three Christs (2017)
In the 1950s, paranoid schizophrenics and others with mental afflictions were treated much more harshly by today’s standards, often being locked away in institutions and subjected to electroshock and other debilitating treatments.

In the film “Three Christs,” Richard Gere plays Dr. Alan Stone, a character based on real life social psychologist Milton Rokeach who during that time championed a more humane and empathetic approach to treatment.

“The thing that interests me is not the mental illness, it’s actually ‘How does one create community? How do we trust each other?’ That seems to be the crux of [Rokeach’s] approach which was ‘I’m not gonna warehouse these guys,'” Gere said on Thursday at the “Three Christs” premiere in New York, adding that the doctor refused to let patients undergo dangerous practices. Instead, he listened to and observed and approached the patients with a compassionate eye.

“For me, it was...

Richard Gere, Peter Dinklage, Walton Goggins, and Bradley Whitford in Three Christs (2017)
‘Three Christs’: Film Review
Richard Gere, Peter Dinklage, Walton Goggins, and Bradley Whitford in Three Christs (2017)
Sixty years ago, a psychologist named Milton Rokeach hatched an unconventional experiment, in which he gathered together at Ypsilanti State Hospital three mental patients who’d been diagnosed with grandiose delusions — each was thoroughly convinced that he and only he was Jesus Christ — to test whether confronting them with “the ultimate contradiction” of their claims might impact their beliefs. “While I had failed to cure the three Christs of their delusions, they had succeeded in curing me of mine — of my God-like delusion that I could change them by omnipotently and omnisciently arranging and rearranging their daily lives,” Rokeach wrote decades later in the 1981 reprint of his book, “The Three Christs of Ypsilanti.”

There’s a wonderful irony to that line upon which a fascinating film might be based, perhaps even a rowdy weekly sitcom. Instead, director Jon Avnet (whose terrific adaptation of “Fried Green Tomatoes” gives hope that perhaps...

Les Misérables (2019)
Amazon Awards Season Contender ‘Les Miserables’ Debuts, Inspirational Bollywood Pic ‘Chhapaak’ Opens – Specialty B.O. Preview
Les Misérables (2019)
Amazon is set to open Les Misérables in limited release this week, but if you’re expecting a musical based on the Victor Hugo novel, you’ll have to look elsewhere. Directed by Ladj Ly, the film only shares a name with the popular Broadway musical. The drama tackles the issue of police brutality in France, showing that this is a super relevant issue not only in the United State but all over the world.

Based on Ly’s 2017 short film, Les Misérables is inspired by the riots that occurred in the suburbs of Paris in 2005. The story hits close to home for Ly as these riots had a long-lasting effect on his neighborhood, Montfermeil. The film follows Stephane (Damien Bonnard) who joins an anti-crime squad in Montfermeil after relocating. As he works with Chris (Alexis Manenti) and Gwada (Djebril Zonga), Stephane struggles with defusing the tense relationships between the resident gangs.

Richard Gere Gets A Juicy Role To Dive Into With “Three Christs”
Whenever you find out that a movie hitting theaters is one that played film festivals almost three years ago, it’s hard not to go in expecting a bust. After all, if the flick was so good, why didn’t it come out in 2017, or even 2018? Why the delay? Well, for whatever reason, Three Christs is only getting released this week, after a 2017 debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. In an interesting twist, however, this is a well acted and compelling drama. Sure, it’s a modest independent work, but with a top tier cast and an intriguing experiment at its core, it makes very little sense that the delay has been so long. The film is a drama, centered on a very unique medical experiment in the late 1950s. Specifically, things begin in 1959 at the Ypsilanti State Hospital in Michigan. There, Dr. Alan Stone (Gere) arrives, soon to...

Jon Avnet directing Uprising in Bratislava Slovakia (2001)
‘Three Christs’ Film Review: Richard Gere Treats a Trio of Would-Be Jesuses in Simplistic Drama
Jon Avnet directing Uprising in Bratislava Slovakia (2001)
There’s a moment in Jon Avnet’s “Three Christs” when the movie’s central psychiatrist Dr. Stone (Richard Gere) suffers a Freudian slip so on-the-nose, you could tell it would happen before he says it: In defending his unorthodox treatment of three men who referred to themselves as Jesus Christ, Dr. Stone accidentally refers to four men, not three, to his supervisors.

This prompts some awkward discussion, but the purpose of the scene is clear: The good doctor also suffers from some godlike illusions of grandeur himself.

However great Gere or his co-stars are, none of them can soothe all that ails “Three Christs,” a milquetoast January release. The movie has that one terribly obvious moment of clarity, but the rest of it seems to stand by Dr. Stone’s crusade unquestionably. Only he recognizes the cruelty of mental institutions in 1959. Only he knows what he’s doing, and...

Walton Goggins on ‘Three Christs’, ‘The Unicorn’, and Switching Between Comedy & Drama
From director/co-writer Jon Avnett, Three Christs is based on an extraordinary experiment conducted by psychiatrist Dr. Alan Stone (Richard Gere), starting in 1959 at Michigan’s Ypsilanti State Mental Hospital, with three men – Joseph (Peter Dinklage), Leon (Walton Goggins) and Clyde (Bradley Whitford) – who each believe that they are Jesus Christ. In an attempt to treat schizophrenic patients with empathy and understanding, instead of confinement and invasive electroshock therapy, Stone hoped that he could break through their delusions in a more humane way. Three Christs Review: Peter Dinklage, Bradley Whitford & Walton Goggins Believe They Are Jesus
Two decades after publishing his study The Three Christs of Ypsilanti, Milton Rokeach came to the realization that his methods were both manipulative and unethical. He included an afterword in a re-release of the book to that effect—something surely helped by the supposed fact his research assistants questioned his morality while it was still being conducted. Rokeach’s goal was to cure three patients who independently believed themselves the one-and-only reincarnation of Jesus by placing them together in a controlled environment to confront the absurdity of their claims. Because there was precedent where reason snapping at least one of them out from their schizophrenic delusions was concerned, he pushed forward by any means necessary. He lied to influence their actions and thus played God to prove they weren’t.

It’s a fascinating real-life ordeal that begs someone to delve deeper into the motivations not only of the three men,...

First Trailer for 'Three Christs' Starring Richard Gere & Peter Dinklage
"You decide if the games outweigh the obvious risks." IFC Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie drama titled Three Christs, based on a true story from the late 1950s. This film originally premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2017, but has been awaiting release ever since - finally opening in January for those still interested. Three Christs tells the story of an experiment that first began in 1959 at Michigan's Ypsilanti State Hospital, where Dr. Alan Stone treated three paranoid schizophrenic patients who each believe they are Jesus Christ. Dr. Stone pioneers a simple, yet revolutionary treatment: instead of submitting each of the patients to electroshock, he puts them in a room together to confront their delusions. What transpires is a darkly comic, intensely dramatic story about the nature of identity and the power of empathy. This stars Richard Gere, Peter Dinklage, Walton Goggins, Bradley Whitford, Charlotte Hope,...

Three Christs Trailer: Richard Gere and Peter Dinklage Grapple with a Jesus Complex
IFC Films has released a new trailer for their upcoming movie Three Christs. The movie is based on a true story about three schizophrenic men who believed they were all Jesus Christ. In 1959, Dr. Milton Rokeach (the name has been changed in the movie) decided it was time to make some new discoveries in the world of schizophrenia and thought of a very unorthodox way of doing so. Now, IFC Films is finally preparing to release their movie based on that story after it premiered in 2017.

In 1959, psychiatrist Dr. Alan Stone (Richard Gere) arrives at a mental hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan armed with the radical belief that schizophrenic patients should be treated not with confinement and electroshock therapy but with empathy and understanding. As his first study, he takes on the particularly challenging case of three men-Joseph (Peter Dinklage), Leon (Walton Goggins), and Clyde (Bradley Whitford)-each of whom believes they are Jesus Christ.

‘Three Christs’: Richard Gere Helps Self-Described Holy Men In New Film From Jon Avnet
The name Sigmund Freud often immediately comes to mind when someone says the word “psychology,” but Carl Rogers deserves attention as well. Specifically, it was his development of person-centered psychotherapy that contributed to shining more much-needed light on the antiquated approach to mental health. At the very least, lending an attentive and unbiased ear as a friend who genuinely wants to help sure sounds like a better alternative to what Jack Nicholson’s McMurphy ultimately endured in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” The upcoming film “Three Christs” seeks to put this kind of approach to the test.

Peter Farrelly
Patrick J. Don Vito (‘Green Book’ editor) wanted to ‘keep everything real’ to honor the men behind the true story [Exclusive Video Interview]
Peter Farrelly
Having worked with Peter Farrelly on “Movie 43” (2013), film editor Patrick J. Don Vito was surprised to read the script for the director’s latest film, “Green Book.” “I thought, wow, this is really good,” he recalls, “and this is such a departure” for the filmmaker behind bawdy comedies like “Dumb and Dumber” (1994), “Kingpin” (1996) and “There’s Something About Mary” (1998). Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Based on a true story, this Universal release centers on Tony “Lip” Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen), an Italian-American bouncer who takes a job driving classical pianist Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) on a musical tour through the Jim Crow-era South.

See As ‘Green Book’ opens wide, will Oscar voters also go along for the ride?

Although the film deals with more serious subject matter, Farrelly didn’t leave his funny bone behind. “That was probably the biggest trick of the movie,” Don Vito explains, “the...

Richard Gere at an event for I'm Not There (2007)
Richard Gere follows one of his most vital and layered performances, in Norman, with one of his least convincing in Jon Avnet's dramatically inert Three Christs. Based on an actual experimental treatment conducted in 1959, the film follows the then-unconventional therapy sessions of a compassionate doctor who believes that putting three mentally ill patients claiming the same religious identity together in one room will be more productive than pumping them full of electricity. Call it Lord, Interrupted or One Flew Over the Crucifix, this is a tedious slog that fails even to hit the emotional marks of the most formulaic...

Walton Goggins Joins The Cast of Marvel's Ant-man And The Wasp
Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight) has officially joined the cast of Marvel's Ant-Man And The Wasp! I'm a fan of Goggins' work so it's great to see him join a Marvel movie. As of right now, there are no details on who he'll be playing but I assume it will be a villain. Maybe some new info on his character will be revealed at Comic-Con this week!

Goggins joins the previously cast Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Evangeline Lily as The Wasp, Michael Douglas, Michael Peña, T.I. and most recently Randall Park. I really enjoyed the first Ant-Man film and I'm excited to see where Marvel and director Peyton Reed take the next chapter of the story.

Goggins most recently worked on the Tomb Raider reboot opposite Alicia Vikander. You'll also see him in Maze Runner: The Death Cure and Jon Avent’s The Three Christs Of Ypsilanti. He recently appeared...

Richard Gere in Norman (2016)
Richard Gere Has A New Career, Thanks To Two Israeli Filmmakers
Richard Gere in Norman (2016)
This is the story of how two Israeli filmmakers transformed a Buddhist movie star into Bob Dylan, a New York homeless man, a Manhattan Jewish fixer, and a politician with family issues. It started when Oren Moverman wrote “I’m Not There” with director Todd Haynes, who cast Richard Gere as one of six versions of Bob Dylan.

Several years later, Gere spotted Moverman across a crowded room. “It was an Academy event in New York,” Gere said. “It was a cocktail thing for new members.” Moverman introduced him to Oscar-nominated Joseph Cedar (”Footnote”). They wound up talking Middle East politics. “The three of us were getting along great,” said Gere, who told the men, “If you want to do something that has to do with the Middle East, even in a tangential way, talk to me.”
