Since 1995, E3 has been the biggest video game show of the year. What started as a trade show largely intended to appeal to industry figures soon ballooned into an absolute spectacle that captured the attention of millions of gamers across the world.
E3 has endured a few ups and downs over the years, but it remains the most exciting time of the year for gamers. Despite its incredible popularity, though, there’s actually quite a few pieces of E3 history that remain obscure to those millions of gamers across the world who eagerly watch every day of the show. As subscription-based, on-demand gaming services have gained popularity in recent years, both PlayStation Now and Xbox Game Pass have established their positions at the top of the market by offering a variety of content and great value for subscribers. There’s just one burning question demands to be answered: Which one is better?
It’s a tough one. Each has advantages over the other – Ps Now has more attractive pricing plus its library of 700+ titles makes Game Pass’ library of 200+ titles look paltry in comparison, whereas Xbox Game Pass tends to offer more recent games as well as including first party titles on the day of release.
It’s hard to say which one is better overall, but taken one month at a time, we may get our answer. So join us as we look at what’s been added and what was removed from each service and declare which...

In these strange times, the movie industry’s having to adapt so that folks can still get their cinematic fix. Given that theaters are closed across the globe, many films are either being switched to VOD releases or are dropping online much sooner than expected. One of the latter is Birds of Prey, which Warner Bros. made available to rent last month, despite it only debuting on the big screen at the beginning of February. The move, backed by director Cathy Yan, was a successful one. And it seems the studio has now decided to open up the film to even more people.
As pointed out by IndieWire, Birds of Prey has had its price dropped on iTunes, Amazon and Vudu to a mere $5.99. That’s a sharp decrease from its original $19.99 price tag. This comes just over two months to the day when it first debuted in cinemas. Presumably,...

The recent DC superhero film Birds of Prey featured many memorable and amazing characters. While it focused primarily on everyone's favorite supervillain Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie, other heroes also got their time in the spotlight and managed to impress the film's wide audience. One of these heroes was none other than Dinah Lance aka the Black Canary, a superhero in the making, who later became a member of the new superhero group Birds of Prey. American actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell played Black Canary and while she had her fair share of previous acting parts, there still might be a lot of things you don't know about her.

In something of a surprise announcement, it's been revealed that we're getting a prequel to 2009's Orphan. William Brent Bell, who most recently directed Brahms: The Boy 2, has been tapped to helm Esther. It's not at all uncommon for horror movies that made money to get sequels or follow-ups, but it's certainly less common for a prequel to happen more than a decade later to a movie such as this, which makes it all the more intriguing.
According to several reports, eOne and Dark Castle are behind Esther, which is named after the lead character in Orphan, played by Isabelle Fuhrman. The script was penned by David Coggeshall, whose previous credits include The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia and Prey. He also served as a producer on Spike TV's 1000 Ways to Die. There is no word on casting yet, but production is expected to begin this summer,...

With his sequel set to open this weekend, Stx’s Brahms: The Boy II, William Brent Bell will next direct Esther, a prequel to to Warner Bros.’/Dark Castle’s 2009 genre pic Orphan for eOne. Sierra/Affinity is also launching sales at the Berlin Film Festival.
The prequel is written by David Coggeshall. In it, Lena Klammer orchestrates a brilliant escape from a Russian psychiatric facility and travels to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy family. But Lena’s new life as “Esther” comes with an unexpected wrinkle and pits her against a mother who will protect her family at any cost. Filming is expected to start in the third quarter.
Bell also directed the first The Boy for Stx. He is in the final stages of post-production on his next feature, Separation, a Brooklyn-set supernatural thriller starring Emmy Award nominee Rupert Friend and Emmy Award and Golden Globe winner Brian Cox.

Despite a slew of positive reviews, Birds of Prey is floundering at the box office. The film had the worst opening for the Dceu yet, breaking the winning streak that Warner Bros. have been on ever since their post-Justice League course correction. It scored just $33 million on its opening weekend, meaning that right now, it’s one of the lowest-grossing comic book movies ever (and is the worst since Jonah Hex).
Clearly, then, Warner Bros. are in damage limitation mode and, in an effort to shore up numbers, decided that the title of the movie needs to change. Though most simply referred to the film as Birds of Prey, its official title is the cumbersome Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Some industry analysts blamed this for the movie’s failure, arguing that the studio should have made sure that Margot Robbie’s popular Harley Quinn was front and center.

Despite strong reviews, Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey is falling short at the domestic box office, at least when compared to the previous seven releases from Warner’s DC Extended Universe.
The Wrap reports that Harley Quinn’s latest big screen outing grossed just $13 million domestically on Friday, and is on course to earn a total of $34 million in its first weekend. This would be the lowest opening for a DC adaptation since 2010’s Jonah Hex, which managed just $5.3 million in its first three days, and the lowest of any Dceu entry to date.
In the lead-up to this weekend, trackers were projecting an opening haul of $55 million, while Warner Bros. offered a more conservative forecast of $45 million. With the film falling below expectations though, it’s now looking like Birds of Prey may not even pass $100 million domestically in its entire run.

Yesterday, we got the second full-length trailer for Birds of Prey, which included an extensive look at the upcoming DC Comics adventure set against the sounds of Lucy Woodward's take on "It's Oh So Quiet", a song made popular by Bjork. Interestingly enough, that number isn't included on the just releases tracklist for the Birds of Prey soundtrack. But none the less, what we do get is pretty exciting for modern day music lovers of all ages.
"Diamonds" is an epic collaboration between Megan Thee Stallion and Normani, and features as the third title on the upcoming soundtrack. It was released today as the first official single from the groundbreaking Birds of Prey: The Album. The star-studded, all-female musical companion to the eagerly awaited new film is notably absent of any male singers.

In 1932, Rko Radio Pictures released The Most Dangerous Game, a survival thriller about a man who hunts humans for sport when four survivors take shelter in a castle on an island at sea after their boat is capsized. The castle is home to a Russian count who is a hunting enthusiast, but what he hunts aren’t animals of the tropical variety. This idea of a hunter and its prey is a big part of horror narratives. There’s almost always an innocent being chased by a hunter wearing a mask. A most dangerous game indeed, and one that co-writer/director Franck Khalfoun takes on in his new film. Despite the suspenseful premise, Prey turns in one of Blumhouse’s weaker productions, which all comes down to unoriginality and an underdeveloped backstory.

While Halloween season is officially over, the world of horror (and sci-fi) marches on with this week’s Blu-ray and DVD releases. November 5th is probably one of our quieter days of home media releases in some time, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some killer stuff to get excited for. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark arrives on Tuesday on multiple formats, and for those of you who love Galaxy Quest as much as I do, the sci-fi comedy is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a brand new Steelbook as well.
All three entries in Edgar Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy are headed to 4K this week—Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End—and for those of you who were unable to keep up with it on Amazon, the Good Omens series hits both Blu and DVD this Tuesday.

System Shock 2 is getting an Enhanced Edition courtesy of Nightdive Studios
Nightdive Studios (the studio behind the troubled development of the System Shock remake) are working on an enhanced version of System Shock 2.
"You asked for it and we are working on it," reads a post on the Nightdive Studios' Twitter account. "System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition coming soon!!!"
The studio doesn't offer any additional details about the enhanced edition of the game at this time. However, the words "In Development" are included in the teaser photo for the project, which suggests that this Enhanced Edition likely won't be released in the near future. It's also worth noting that Nightdive is responsible for the re-release of System Shock 2 in 2013. At that time, System Shock 2 was one of the great "lost" games that hadn't been brought to modern digital marketplaces.
To that end, we do wonder what, exactly, Nightdive...
