20th Television have dropped yet another teaser for Alien: Earth, their upcoming sci-fi horror series that will serve as a prequel to the first film in the franchise, revealing what happened back home on Earth two years before the events of the 1979 movie.
While we don't have an official premiere date, the series is slated to debut this Summer on FX on Hulu domestically and Disney+ via Star internationally. Also, with the Super Bowl right around the corner, there's a very real possibility that a full-length trailer could debut during the annual event, especially considering the Big Game is airing on Fox.
Plot details remain relatively under wraps, but the basic premise is as follows, "When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet's greatest threat."

Exclusive: John Ridley, the Oscar winner behind 12 Years a Slave, is developing a feature take on Isaac Asimov’s 1954 sci-fi novel The Caves of Steel for 20th Century Studios, Deadline can reveal.
Ridley plans to direct Caves of Steel, having written the most recent draft of the script with Cheo Hodari Coker, the multi-hyphenate best known for creating Marvel’s recent Luke Cage series.
A landmark work of science fiction, which is the first in Asimov’s Robot series, The Caves of Steel introduces readers to a future Earth where humanity has retreated into vast, domed cities — known as the “Caves of Steel” — to escape the harshness of the outside world. The story follows Elijah Baley, a New York City detective who is reluctantly partnered with R. Daneel Olivaw, a humanoid robot, to solve the high-profile murder of a “Spacer” scientist. As Baley navigates the investigation, tensions arise between Earth’s overcrowded, robot-wary society and the more advanced Spacer civilizations, which embrace robotic integration.
Previously, BBC adapted the novel for television, with radio and game adaptations also emerging. Sources said Ridley’s film may also take inspiration from The Caves of Steel‘s sequels, The Naked Sun and The Robots of Dawn.
For Asimov, the Robot series captured a longtime interest in artificial intelligence, which produced his influential “Three Laws of Robotics.” Introduced in his 1942 short story “Runaround,” these laws have become a framework for discussing AI ethics and the challenges of programming intelligent systems to interact safely and effectively with humans.
Asimov’s “Three Laws” are discussed in I, Robot, the 2004 film starring Will Smith, which took inspiration (and its name) from the Russian-born author’s collection of short stories, published in 1950. One of the most prolific and influential writers in the history of science fiction, Asimov is also well known for his Foundation series, exploring the rise and fall of civilizations across a galactic empire, which inspired the Apple series, heading into its third season. Notably, he also co-wrote 1992’s The Positronic Man, which was adapted into the 1999 film Bicentennial Man starring Robin Williams.
Ridley won an Oscar for writing Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, earning three Emmy nominations for his work on American Crime, the anthology he created for ABC. Most recently, he wrote, directed, and produced Shirley, a biopic of the United States’ first Black congresswoman, Shirley Chisholm, for Netflix, which starred Academy Award winner Regina King. As a director, his other credits include series like Five Days at Memorial, Godfather of Harlem, Guerrilla and Let It Fall: Los Angeles 1982-1992, as well as 2013’s Jimi: All Is by My Side. Ridley is also known for his work with DC Comics including “The Other History of the DC Universe,” “Gcpd: The Blue Wall,” and the recently released “Justice League: The Atom Project #1.”
Most recently writing on and co-producing Paris Barclay’s doc Billy Preston: That’s the Way God Planned It on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee of the same name, Coker has also worked on films like Notorious and Creed II, along with Southland, Ray Donovan and other series.
Ridley is repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Rohner Walerstein; Coker by CAA and Literate Management/Production.

Elden Ring is FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki’s greatest success and one of the best games of all time. The game has sold over 25 million copies and Shadow of the Erdtree is the highest-rated Dlc of all time. One of the most noteworthy things about the game is Fromsoft’s collaboration with George R.R. Martin.

While the game’s creation is widely attributed to Miyazaki and FromSoft, George R.R. Martin also played a big role in its creation. Despite this, the author has consistently downplayed his role, giving much of the credit to Miyazaki himself.

From any angle, Guerrilla Games’ Horizon series has been a victim of unfortunate timing. Despite earning critical acclaim and developing a passionate fanbase, the franchise has earned a somewhat tragic reputation for releasing its titles in the shadow of bigger, more widely anticipated games.
The series has been cursed for years. | Image Credit: Guerrilla Games
Whether it’s some cosmic curse or just bad luck, it seems the series has never quite managed to get the spotlight all to itself. Once again, with its impending release of a multiplayer spinoff in 2025, it has found itself in the same position, right up against a newly announced multiplayer title from FromSoft: Elden Ring Nightreign.

PlayStation has birthed a number of iconic and wonderful franchises across its lifetime, from the fun Ape Escape to the gritty Killzone and even grittier God of War, just to name a few. However, as many new ones have risen and become critical and commercial successes, older franchises have been left to the wayside or forgotten to time. This has, naturally, left fans of those series genuinely upset, hoping one day Sony will bring them back.
Unfortunately, lately, PlayStation seems to have a habit of remastering the wrong games instead of devoting time and resources to resurrecting some of its classic IP. While in some cases this is a genuine shame - Jak and Daxter deserves a comeback - there are some PlayStation franchises that maybe deserve to stay dormant. After all, even games that were once considered great can have a swift fall from grace.

Horizon is one of the most popular PlayStation first-party titles ever. This sci-fi action RPG series first made its debut with Zero Dawn in 2017, followed by Forbidden West, 5 years later. In the recently concluded PlayStation’s State of Play, the remastered version of Zero Dawn was announced, which is going to be released on October 31.

Sony is also working on an online co-op title in the Horizon universe. Guerrilla is also working on a spin-off title in collaboration with Lego. So, certainly, it has been quite a busy time for the developing company. However, all of these wouldn’t have been possible if Guerrilla didn’t put an end to another popular franchise.

Killzone is among the most requested series when the subject of reviving a long-forgotten franchise is brought up.

The initial announcement trailer for the Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster pretty much squashed any fears that it would be yet another pointless Sony remaster, as it showcased just how much it was changing the original experience. Well, apparently Sony wasn't done showing off, as it released an enormous blog post revealing just how much the base game has changed, and how much effort both Guerrilla and the remaster developers Nixxes have put into this gigantic remaster.
While players wait patiently for the next mainline Horizon game, the Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster is here to give them another excuse to revisit the epic and impressive open-world experience. According to PlayStation Blog, it's packed full of significant improvements over the original, from visual overhauls to entire sections of the game being rerecorded, and that blog post breaks it all down. It's worth a read if only to hear all the fascinating insights...

According to new leaks, the next Horizon game will be an online multiplayer, and the timing couldn't be worse. The series has proven to be quite the success for PlayStation fans, with both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West offering vast open-world experiences with dynamic combat and almost Monster Hunter-esque enemies to fight. While the story quality fluctuates between games, there is clearly a lot of love for the world and characters, especially the incredible Aloy. Naturally, fans want more from the series, eager to explore more of robot-infested America and learn about the various factions that now inhabit it.
The next Horizon game is not a sequel but is reportedly Horizon Online, an Mmo that has supposedly been in the works for a while. Of course, there are plenty of directions a more traditional single-player sequel could go, especially considering the weird and wonderful Horizon Forbidden West ending,...

The upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro just had more details revealed at a technical presentation hosted by Mark Cerny. In addition to revealing the controversial $700 price tag for the upgraded console, the eight-minute presentation also revealed a host of games that will be getting PS5 Pro support upon the console's launch on November 7, 2024. Although initial reception from PlayStation gamers was icy at best, the slated graphical enhancements should make the gaming experience more even for those striving for a steady 60 frames per second.
In addition to a 2Tb Ssd standard, the new PS5 Pro will have an upgraded Gpu and boasts 45% faster rendering for gameplay, taking the typical 30 Fps experience up to 60 Fps for games. The new Gpu not only allows for an enhancement in gameplay fidelity generally, but the PS5 Pro also has AI upscaling and Advanced Ray Tracing to help bring things to the next level.

PlayStation has had a handful of decent live-action adaptations in the past few years. Uncharted, Gran Turismo, The Last of Us, and many more were well received but there is one project that fans wouldn’t mind seeing the light of day.
Other major first-party franchises are overexposed and wouldn’t benefit from being adapted to different media. Perhaps the cancellation was a blessing in disguise and is for the best to avoid one franchise from being too exposed.

Five Nights at Freddy’s fans will have another title to sink their teeth into soon enough with Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit. Only this time around, developer/publisher Mega Cat Studios are doing things a little different than what we’ve come to expect from the series.
Revealed during the Guerrilla Collective Showcase, Into the Pit revolves around Oswald, who wishes that his town, and his life, weren’t so boring. That all changes when he explores the ball pit in a rundown pizzeria and finds himself in the past. However, as one might expect, Oswald will encounter something that will have him questioning his wish.
Rather than the usual gameplay from a Five Nights at Freddy’s title, Into the Pit instead is a full-on horror adventure. You’ll travel between time periods, gather clues, and obviously outrun the threat relentlessly hounding you. You’ll need to...

PlayStation has been renowned for the plethora of first-party games from developers that operate under its banner. The platform has earned the respect of the gaming community; however, some fans can’t help but notice the special treatment Horizon is receiving.
Consumers love to take in great content, but Sony seems to forget that other more beloved franchises under its belt aren’t receiving the same attention. Guerrilla did a great job with the series, and there appears to be more coming across various mediums soon.
PlayStation Favors Horizon More Than Other Franchises Horizon was successful for PlayStation, but fans aren’t delighted by how other games are being ignored.

There’s a lot going on in the world of Alien at the moment. The original classic is returning to theaters, for starters, and the Xenomorphs will be fighting Marvel’s superheroes in the upcoming mashup comic Aliens vs. Avengers. Of course, the main event for 2024 is Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus, a brand new big screen movie set between Alien and Aliens!
With so much going on, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that Disney is also working on an “Alien” television series, in the works for FX from creator Noah Hawley (“Legion”).
The Alien franchise’s first ever television series is likely to arrive sometime in 2025, set to be the first story in the franchise that takes place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future.
FX teases, “Expect a scary thrill ride set not too far in the future here on Earth.”
So what’s the latest on the “Alien” TV series?...

Very few games this generation have wowed on the visual front as much as Horizon Forbidden West. Launched in February 2022, the open-world action adventure title was an absolute stunner on both PS4 and PS5.
2023’s Burning Shores expansion pushed the graphical envelope even further, as its PS5 exclusivity allowed it to harness the full potential of the current-gen machine. 2 years after launch, Forbidden West has been released on PC in a neat package that includes the Dlc. However, Guerrilla’s recent comments suggest that work started on it far earlier than we could’ve thought.
Work On The PC Version Started In 2023… Or Did It?
A still from Horizon Forbidden West
Forbidden West‘s PC port was a team effort between Guerrilla Games and Nixxes Software, the latter of whom is a renowned porting studio that was acquired by Sony in 2021, in an effort to speed up their PC release pipeline.

Horizon Forbidden West is Guerrilla’s latest entry for Aloy’s journey in a world overthrown by machines. Fans have been captivated by the amazing visuals, rich lore, and complicated combat, making it one of PlayStation’s best exclusives.
Sony has set its eyes on the PC side of gaming and ported several of its first-party exclusives, and the Complete Edition of Horizon Forbidden West is a perfect example of why it waits a few years before doing so.
Piracy is one of the biggest problems in the entertainment industry. It’s an insult to the talent and skill of the people involved in the development and production; their life’s work is being desecrated and used for less than its value, and Sony is reeling from the effects of its latest port to PC. Killzone, the now-dead first-person shooter franchise and arguably PlayStation’s flagship shooter title, was one of the most popular shooter games out there. The first was released back in 2004, and the last title came in 2013, but players have constantly been clamoring for a remake.
There have been several PlayStation remakes of popular classic games in recent years, and there will be more in the upcoming year, but sadly, none of them will be Killzone titles. A leaker has claimed that despite several remakes being in the works, Killzone fans will be left empty-handed.

It appears to be an unfortunate day for both the workers of PlayStation and the fans. Earlier today, it was reported that the company is letting go of 900 employees from the PlayStation unit. The gaming industry has been in a massive slump since last year with thousands of people losing their jobs.
The fact that PlayStation posted record annual operating revenue on Friday brings into question this mass layoff. As expected, PlayStation’s move is now going to have a ripple effect on their projects as well. After all, games don’t make themselves.

The Alien franchise will return with its first ever television series in 2025, and it’s set to be the first story in the franchise that takes place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future.
Creator Noah Hawley‘s take on the Alien franchise has been described as both an “extension and reinvention” of the films, but don’t expect Ridley Scott’s prequel movies to factor into the series. Scott, who’s on board the FX series as producer, dug into the origins of the Xenomorphs in both Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, but Hawley reveals in a new chat with Kcrw’s The Business that he’s not interested in playing with any of those story threads.
Furthermore, he’s only interested in exploring the tech of the original two movies.

The soundtrack for Hulu’s Quiz Lady features an eclectic mix of songs from different eras, reflecting not just the primary setting of the movie but its backstory as well. Quiz Lady is a wholesome comedy that starts out with a brief intro that takes place in 1996 before moving forward to the present day. Awkwafina stars as Anne, a mild-mannered woman obsessed with game shows, while Sandra Oh plays her reckless sister, Jenny. While they are polar opposites, Anne and Jenny come together for a memorable road trip and game show appearance to pay off their mothers’ gambling debts.
Nick Urata, who previously scored another memorable road comedy, Little Miss Sunshine, composed the original music for Quiz Lady while the soundtrack includes popular numbers by mainstream talents such as Harry Styles and Smash Mouth. American Idol contestant Remi Wolf is also featured on the soundtrack with two songs in the movie.

HBO is going to back to Westeros… again. The pay-cable network is nearing a pilot order for a second spinoff of its hugely popular “Game of Thrones” series, this one based on the Targaryen family, TheWrap has learned.
HBO declined to comment on the potential spinoff, which was first reported by Deadline, but an individual with knowledge of the project confirmed the report’s accuracy to TheWrap.
The series is from “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin and “Colony” co-creator Ryan Condal. It would be set 300 years before the events of the HBO fantasy series, which wrapped its eight-season run earlier this year. Representatives for Condal and Martin did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

Bolivia’s selection committee has opted to submit Rodrigo Bellott’s polemical “Tu Me Manques” to vie for the International Feature Film Academy Award.
The gay drama beat 11 other local films in contention. “By supporting my film despite the controversy, Bolivia has proven that it is a progressive country, and that in the end, art and cinema will prevail,” said Bellott, who has seen his fourth film greeted by both glowing reviews and homophobic slurs since it bowed in August.
This is the second time Bellott represents Bolivia at the Oscars. His breakout film, “Sexual Dependency,” which snagged the Fipresci Award in Locarno and screened at more than 65 international film fests, also became the country’s second official entry to the Academy Awards in 2003, after an eight-year absence following Juan Carlos Valdivia’s “Jonas and the Pink Whale.”

Exclusive: Netflix’s Arthurian legend series Cursed has added Humans and Troy: Fall of a City actress Bella Dayne.
Dayne joins previously announced cast including Katherine Langford, Devon Terrell, Gustaf Skarsgard, Peter Mullan and Lily Newmark. In a series-regular role, she will play Red Spear, described to us as “a regal and ruthless viking captain, with an eye for treasure. … Loyal to no one, the Red Spear and her crew raid villages along the coast of Britain until a Fey stowaway boards her ship and entangles their fates.”
Netflix gave a 10-episode order to the project, which is based on comics supremo Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler’s upcoming illustrated book. Zetna Fuentes (Jessica Jones) and Jon East (Killing Eve) are among directors on the drama epic, which is a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of the young woman (Langford) who would become the Lady of the Lake.

Bolivia’s Rodrigo Bellott, after some years dedicated to casting and producing for other directors, has marked his return to filmmaking with the adaptation of his groundbreaking stage play, “Tu Me Manques.” On Sunday Aug. 28, his eponymous bi-lingual film snagged the Grand Jury Prize for Best Screenplay at L.A.’s Outfest where it had its world premiere. Drama will have a special screening at Chile’s Santiago Int’l Film Festival (Sanfic), which runs Aug. 18-25.
When the play broke out in 2015, what was originally meant to stage for one night went on for an unprecedented four months due to popular acclaim. More importantly, the story based on Bellott’s gay boyfriend, who killed himself for fear of coming out, had such a momentous impact on Bolivian society that it led to the inclusion of the Lgbtq community in Bolivia’s anti-discrimination law. Its Supreme Court declared May 17 as...

Production has wrapped on HBO’s Naomi Watts-led “Game of Thrones” prequel pilot, which began shooting in Belfast, Ireland this summer, Casey Bloys said during the Television Critics Association press tour on Wednesday.
The HBO programming boss also addressed the online petition that was started by fans asking the pay-tv channel to remake the final season of “GoT” with “competent writers” (a dig at showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss) which he says “shows a lot of enthusiasm.”
“Look, I take all of the activity around the finale as — there are very, very few downsides to having a hugely popular show, but one I can think of is when you try to end it, many people have big opinions on how it should end,” Bloys told reporters. “I think that just comes with the territory.”

Close-Up is a feature that spotlights films now playing on Mubi. Steven Soderbergh's Che (2008), shown as The Argentine and Guerrilla, are playing in June and July in the United States.Half way through Steven Soderbergh’s two-part, four-and-a-half-hour epic Che, ABC News journalist Lisa Howard asks the Argentine doctor-turned-revolutionary how he feels about “being a symbol.” The question ricochets off the sleek interiors of a New York room, 1964—the year Guevara addressed the United Nations on the threat U.S. imperialism posed to world peace. But in Soderbergh’s biopic, it plays over images from January 2, 1959—the day Che, having conquered the city of Santa Clara, raced to Havana to reunite with Fidel Castro and celebrate “the end of the war, and the start of the [Cuban] revolution.” It’s a choice that makes for a peculiar dialectic: a man who by the 1960s had already become a global icon...

This is the latest installment of “Breaking Black,” a weekly column focused on emerging black talent.
Wunmi Mosaku doesn’t give up without a fight. After auditioning for a role on season 1 of “Luther,” she didn’t make the cut. “I remember reading the script and absolutely loving it, and really wanting the role, but I didn’t get it,” Mosaku said. “And when I watched the season, really wanted to be a part of it.”
Now, nine years later, she’s starring opposite Idris Elba on season 5 of the BBC’s hit detective series as new recruit Detective Sgt. Catherine Halliday.
“For any actor, no matter how old or young you are, it can be tough when you’re without work for months or even years, so it’s been a lovely 18 months or so for me,” Mosaku said.
Mosaku, 32, is a BAFTA TV-winning actress largely unfamiliar to American audiences.
