Adam West's Batman Comes To Life In This Underrated Dark Knight Manga
Image
Jiro Kuwata's Batman manga was the first-ever manga adaptation of Batman, based on Adam West's TV portrayal. Kuwata's Batman depicts a kinder, gentler Caped Crusader compared to the modern "Dark Knight" persona. The manga blends superhero themes with Adam West's lighthearted character, emphasizing problem-solving over violence.

While Batman is generally known as a classic American comic book hero, he also has an extensive history as a Japanese manga superhero, and one adaptation stands out from the rest for its depiction of Batman not based on the hardcore "Dark Knight" persona but rather on the classic TV show with Adam West.

Indeed, there have been no less than five manga adaptations of Gotham's Caped Crusader – the most recent being 2023's One Operation Joker series. Jiro Kuwata's Batman, which ran for 53 issues between April 1966 and May 1967, was the first-ever manga adaptation of Batman. Debuting decades before the manga revolution in the United States,...

‘Badland Hunters’ Review (Netflix)
Image
Stars: Ma Dong-seok, Lee Hee-joon, Lee Joon-young, No Jeong-ee, Ahn Ji-hye | Written by Kim Bo-Tong, Kwak Jae-Min | Directed by Heo Myeong Haeng

Badland Hunters is the latest film starring action hero Ma Dong-seok, and that is bad news for Korea. He was in Train to Busan in which the country was overrun with zombies, and in Ashfall where a massive volcanic eruption laid waste to the entire Korean Peninsula. And the amount of property damage he wracked up in The Outlaws and its sequels The Roundup and The Roundup: No Way Out would bankrupt most insurance companies.

In the opening scenes, Seoul is levelled by a catastrophic earthquake as the military are about to arrest Yang Gi-su for the murders and human experiments he’s committed trying to bring his daughter back from the dead. The building collapses on him, but you know he’ll be back later in the film.

Huh Joon-ho, Kim Hye-su, Yoo Ah-in, and Jo Woo-jin in Gukgabudo-ui nal (2018)
Kim Hye-soo returns to the big screen two years after “Default” with a hard-hitting mystery thriller “The Day I Died: Unclosed Case” by first-time director Park Ji-wan.

Synopsis

On a dark stormy night, a young witness to her father’s crime disappears on an island leaving her shoes on the cliff and her last will in her house. Due to the bad weather, a body has yet to be found. In the absence of the body, the case cannot be closed, but is simply dismissed as suicide. Detective Hyun-soo heads to the island to investigate the mysterious death of the girl.

Park Ji-wan, who has previously worked as script supervisor on “Haunters” and “Castaway on the Moon”, directs from her own script. Along with Kim Hye-soo, the project stars Lee Jung-eun in her first film role since “Parasite“, Roh Jeung-eui (“Phantom Detective“), Kim Sun-young (“Juror 8“), Lee Sang-yeob (“Ordinary People”) and...
