Confronting Truth in a Visceral Way

This was not an easy film to watch. It strikes the viewer at an emotional core. The film does not allow one to turn away. Visually stunning direction allows you no where to hide. The film is powerfully written, filmed. "Brooklyn in July" confronts truth and exposes an ugly underbelly We so often try to hide.

A Real-Life Struggle

Brooklyn in July is a punch-in-the-heart story about an African-American WWII veteran that moves to New York City hoping to find a peaceful and loving life for him and his family, only to find himself controlling his feelings and emotions as he experiences the same heartless emotional and physical abuse dealt to him by an insensitive and prejudiced human (sic) race. The deep feelings and emotions that watching this movie triggers reminds us of how heartless and brutal people can be as well as it brings up reminders of horrors of the past and fear of the future. Extremely well written and directed by Bob Celli, as well as fabulous choices of cast, makes this movie a must-see, and in my opinion, required viewing for all audiences. We, as humans, tend to take a lot for granted and neglect to put ourselves in the places of others much less fortunate. This movie is a reality check for all.
