Kat & Alfie: Redwater

Good potential but lack of humour

I was looking forward to Redwater and watched every episode. The story line had plenty of potential with Kat's search for a son she hasn't seen since birth, beautiful scenery of a small seaside village in Co Waterford in Ireland, full of interesting but secretive characters and quality actors. The drama unfolds over the six episodes and the series finishes on a massive cliffhanger. Will there be another series? Let's hope so.

I enjoyed the twists and turns of the dramatic plot and, while I feel that some parts are overblown and not very typical of Ireland, I warmed to the characters. Oisin Stack is excellent as the priest with his changeable emotions clearly shown on his face, Fionnuala Flanagan plays the all knowing and manipulating Granny well and the two squabbling sisters are also convincing. I don't watch Eastenders but I warmed to Kat and Alfie, who seem like two innocents in this Irish nightmare that unfolds around them.

My niggling criticism is that the ages of the Byrne family are confusing, with the younger generation seeming too old to be children of their parents. However, my main concern is that Redwater doesn't contain much humour. A big mistake, in my opinion, if BBC want it to succeed in Ireland as well as the UK. If they added in more typical Irish humour, it would make the series less dreary and more likable. Many long running crime series contain glimmers of humour and the contrast can be used to good effect. If there is to be more Redwater (and I really hope there will be), please let there be a little laughter - as in real life, especially in Ireland.

WHAT IN THE WORLD

WHAT ... what is putting it mildly. Immediately fell into this series, hook line and sinker. What a great show of twists and turns. Just figuring who was who, and took a major written time line of the complex family tree. If this series had completed with closure it would have been a 10. But need less to say what in the world was that in the last episode. A bumbly miss mash of nothing. So disappointed. I searched at the final episode thinking. NO WAY. How is this the end.

It was And awful just awful.

A new 'Must watch' for us!

Loved this series & couldn't wait for each episode, being left dangling on the cliff hanger end, there MUST be a second series! We're fans of drama mysteries & certainly didn't expect this to be a new favourite!

Faultless acting, fabulous scenery, mystery & drama that we didn't expect from an 'Eastenders' spin off. Our only worry is what appears to be the killing off of 'Alfie', a much loved character & so fantastically portrayed by Shane Ritchie, which would be a great loss to both series.

A trailer with so many unresolved plots.

Very like a soap. But the end is totally unresolved. It's all a bit of a prime for series 2.

You get to the end and ask yourself why did I waste my time with this.

Loved it! Kat and Alfie Redwater

I'm hoping for a season 2 of this series. Set in Ireland with beautiful scenery and a family full of secrets and past and present joy and pains, so many lurking just under the surface. I would love them to delve deeper into the side stories, as well as the story of Kat and Alfie. So much to offer, and plenty of roads for the story lines to further twist and turn, as we see the history behind the choices and characters unfurled, and how it's affecting the present. Six episodes are not enough, bring it back. :)

What????

I really enjoyed this series, but what happened to the final scenes? Most of the third act is missing! At first I thought maybe they finished it up on the soap opera, but no! Then I thought they must already be approved for Season 2, but no. Very disappointing. There are something like 6 story lines, including the main story line, and not ONE of them showed the resolution. I guess this is what happens when soap opera people try to do a mini-series; they don't know how to write an ending. Really a shame because it was top notch until it ended- about 40 minutes too early.

Love this show

This show is full of twists and suspenseful moments and I hope Season 2 comes along very quickly. I don't watch EastEnders, as I'm in Australia, so these characters were new people to me. As always the acting is very good with the storyline being strong. Both of course is usual in British TV series and why I prefer UK or Canadian dramas.

Don't waste your time!

I binged all 6 hours of this show and while it was intriguing and we'll acted, i am FURIOUS that there was no resolution of the long and twisted plot!!! Immediately after watching 6 hours of such a suspenseful and gripping drama I looked for season 2 only to discover there was none! Every story within this story was left in an unresolved cliffhanger...j HATE shows like this. Don't invest your time in watching this series... completely unsatisfying!!

Why did it end with 1 season???

I really enjoyed the scenery, the plot, the acting and all the secrets! Why isn't there another season offered on BritBox? This is a series I would purchase as a box set if it was offered.

Kat and Alife hit the road

When they were first introduced in 'Eastenders' Kat and Alfie were fun characters, who the nation willed and wished to be together. Because of course they were trapped in a soap however they soon got ruined, and ended up with more baggage than audiences could keep up with.

This spin-off however was a chance to lose some of that and to give the characters a fresh lease of life.

Yes, it's trying a little too hard to be like 'Broadchurch', but there's a lot of like here, not least the winning performances of Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie, who seem to be enjoying the escape from Albert Square.

Will this catch on? Time will tell. For now though this is a decent enough piece of TV drama.

Complete tosh

Stilted acting (at times downright terrible) ridiculous plot - dreadful writing- every cliche and stereotype in the book - only watched to keep my mind off the scary time we are all going through

The Village called the want their .... Well you get it

I wanted to like this but not one redeemable character in this mini series. Not one character in this is likable seriously. Kat Moon is horrible and completely ridiculous everything is all about what she wants. I've never seen EastEnders and frankly I'm not a soap opera fan also maybe why I disliked this so much. I love Maria Doyle Kennedy, Fionnula Flanagan, Ian McElhinney and Stanley Townsend. They couldn't elevate this mess ! Juvenile that about sums the who storyline up. I'll state this again NOT ONE likable character. Watch this nonsense at your own peril. Only one thing I enjoyed was the Irish countryside the location scouts did a wonderful job.

What a stupid piece of junk

This was obviously written by a soap writer. The characters and plot twists are mind boggling. Who could possibly keep it all straight. None of the characters are the least bit endearing, including bratty Tommy. Don't bother.
