It's been just over 40 years since the rock-and-roll mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap altered the trajectory of comedy forever, and it's coming back in a big way. Bleecker Street has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the 1984 cult classic and is planning a nationwide U.S. theatrical release of a newly restored editionthis summer. It's a perfect compliment to the newly titled sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, which has an actual release date — Sep. 12, 2025. There's a new video teaser for it, and it looks like director Rob Reiner is ready to turn it up to 11, and beyond.
Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer reprise their iconic roles as the legendary heavy metal band Spinal Tap. Reiner returns as documentarian Martin “Marty” Dibergi, with cameos from music legends Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. A federal judge has paused a civil lawsuit brought by Dish Network against rival pay TV provider Vidgo over alleged infringements of streaming video patents.
The proceeding was paused after both companies filed a joint motion requesting the judge suspend further proceedings because of Vidgo’s “economic hardships.”
In court records reviewed by The Desk, an attorney for Dish said Vidgo ran out of cash and suspended operations last September. Dish’s lawsuit was filed around the same time.
The lawsuit claims Vidgo used certain adaptive bitrate technology that is patented by Dish, without first seeking permission or a license to use it. The function improves or reduces the quality of a video stream based on a number of factors, including a viewer’s Internet connection and speed.

“The Good Daughter is a suspenseful crime drama where sisters Charlotte (Biel) and Samantha Quinn have spent the last twenty-eight years trying to piece together the lives that were fractured by a single night of violence,” reads Peacock’s synopsis. “When another attack splinters the small town of Pikeville, Charlotte is the first witness on the scene. Now a lawyer like her father, she’s forced to confront her own demons as the case twists through one shocking revelation after another. In the end, both she and Samantha find themselves wondering if the price of being the good daughter was worth it after all.

It feels just like last month we were complimenting Hulu on its true crime offerings. Well, with its list of new releases for February 2023, Hulu is staying in the true crime lane. Suppose that’ll happen when you push back the release date of a series or two.
February sees the arrival of three notable true crime series on Hulu. Taiwan Crime Stories premieres on Feb. 1 and presents four true tales from Taiwan’s criminal “dark underbelly.” That will be followed by ABC News Studios’ Killing County on Feb. 3. That three-episode series ponders the question “what happens when police kill?” The most interesting true crime offering premieres on Feb. 9. That’s when Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence College shares its four-episode saga of Larry Ray and the young college students he victimized.

Ready to rock?
Castle Rock Entertainment, Rob Reiner’s company that recently re-launched its film division after going somewhat dormant, is back and with a big new project to shop around the Cannes Film Festival: “Spinal Tap 2,” a sequel to 1984’s immortal comedy classic “This Is Spinal Tap.” And what’s more – everybody is back, including Reiner (as director and in the film as Marty Dibergi), Harry Shearer, Michael McKean and Christopher Guest, Castle Rock announced in a statement.
“When it was announced that Spinal Tap would reunite for one final concert, Marty DeBergi saw this as a chance to make things right with the band who viewed ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ as a hatchet job. So he left his position as visiting adjunct teacher’s assistant at the Ed Wood School of Cinematic Arts in pursuit of film history,” said Reiner in a statement.

Peter J. Nygard and Louis Bacon were two of the world’s richest men, who also happened to be neighbors in a posh corner of the Bahamas. A bitter feud between the billionaire hedge fund operator and the Canadian fashion mogul, one that initally stemmed from a noise complaint, dominated headlines, and eventually led to Nygard’s arrest and indictment for racketeering and sex trafficking.
It’s a stranger-than-fiction saga that seems ripe for the big screen treatment. Well, no surprise — in a highly competitive situation, Matthew George’s Savvy Media Holdings has acquired the rights to two books on the battling one-percenters. The company has purchased the underlying material of Dick Russell’s forthcoming book “Bacon Vs. Nygard: Sex-Trafficking, Political Corruption, Murder-for-Hire, and the Takedown,” as well as Melissa Cronin’s “Predator King: Peter Nygard’s Dark Life of Rape, Drugs, and Blackmail.” The latter was published in April last year by Skyhorse Publishing.

Netflix seems to have found its niche. In the films department, the streamer has invested heavily of late in prestige content from some of Hollywood’s most respected minds, resulting in awards-friendly (if not award-winning) output like Marriage Story, The Irishman and The Two Popes.
The TV department has different priorities. Bingeable true crime documentaries and soapy dramas fill the site’s television slate, driving clicks and social media conversation often with markedly less investment. Think Locke & Key, Riverdale, You.
Dare Me is the quintessential new addition to that latter group. A ten-part series which first aired in the States on the USA Network late last year, joining Netflix internationally March 20, the show is a claustrophobic and occasionally bloody look at the always-competitive dynamic of high school teens. Cutthroat is the key word. Spoken in ominous voiceover, the show’s first line – “There’s something dangerous about the boredom of...

Disney’s Marvel Studios handily won the hype trophy from this year’s Comic-Con International San Diego.
Marvel Studios — which returned to the 2019 Comic-Con stage with a chock-full Phase 4 slate of announcements — dominated the discussion on Twitter out of the convention, capturing the biggest volume of buzz for nine of the top 10 movies or TV shows overall, according to social-analytics firm ListenFirst Media.
“After sitting out Comic-Con in 2018, Marvel Studios basically unleashed a shock-and-awe campaign in Hall H this year,” said ListenFirst Cmo Tracy David. Overall, The CW’s “Supernatural” was the only non-Marvel project to crack the top 10, coming in at No. 7.
The No. 1 most-discussed movie or show at Comic-Con was Marvel’s surprise announcement of the return of the Thor franchise with Natalie Portman in the title role of “Thor: Love and Thunder.” That was followed by the “Blade” reboot starring Mahershala Ali, the standalone “Black Widow...

Over the course of their five-decade bond, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young have joined together for a number of tours. Some, like Crosby, Stills & Nash’s 1982 Daylight Again trek during David Crosby’s drug addiction, were nerve-wracking. Others, like the quartet’s 1974 reunion tour, were huge-scale and overwhelming. But Csny’s 2006 Freedom of Speech tour – the foursome’s last road work to date – presented a new set of challenges.
That year, Neil Young released Living with War, an album of scathing songs about the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and George W. Bush.

The Syfy Channel has unleashed another wicked cool trailer for Joe and Anthony Russo’s upcoming series Deadly Class. The series looks like it’s its going to be an action-packed blast!
The series is set at a school for assassins where a bunch of young men and women learn the deadly art of killing people. There are also a lot of strict rules to follow at this school, but like this trailer suggests, rules are meant to be broken.
The series is based on the Image Comics property created by Rick Remender and Wes Craig. I’m just happy that the Russo Bros. picked it up and developed it because with those guys leading the charge, you know it’s going to be great!
This is the synopsis that was released for Deadly Class:

Blumhouse is going all in on its winning barebones production formula with the cheap-looking Thriller, which makes it extra scary by default. Its loose production values add a certain aura to this haunting tale that you would never get with a big budget horror project. Oh, and we should mention, since it's returning to theaters today, this has nothing to do with Michael Jackson's Thriller, which is playing in 3D alongside The House With a Clock in Its Walls.
Thriller is the latest low budget creeper from Blumhouse, who are gearing up to release the much more high profile Halloween sequel in theaters next month. Dallas Jackson directs Thriller, which tells of a childhood prank gone horribly wrong. You get to see that prank happen here, and the outcome will definitely turn your stomach. The dollar store production aesthetic adds a sense of realism that comes across like a snuff film.

It’s about that time of year when leaving your house and braving the heat is only bearable if you’re rushing from one air-conditioned space to another. Shock and Awe – Rob Reiner gives his take on a Spotlight style film here.
