‘The King of Kings’ Just Surpassed Bong Joon Ho’s ‘Parasite’ to Become Biggest Korean Movie in America
Image
The King of Kings has been playing in theaters for just over three weeks. After falling a stunning 9% during its second weekend, the animated biblical epic dropped a whopping 76% during its third weekend. Still, the Oscar Isaac-led film has collected $54.7 million at the domestic box office and $4.4 million internationally for a worldwide total of $59.1 million. This domestic total is enough to push The King of Kings past Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite to become the highest-grossing Korean film ever in the U.S. The King of Kings was written and directed by Seong-ho Jang, with Rob Edwards and Jamie Thomason also contributing to the script along with Hoseok Sung. It is also the second-highest-grossing movie ever for its distributor, Angel Studios.

The King of Kings kicked off its box office run with a strong $19.3 million debut, which was enough to earn it the #2 spot at the box office over...

Not Moon Knight, Oscar Isaac Will Return as Another Marvel Superhero in Avengers: Secret Wars to Fight Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom (Theory)
Image
Oscar Isaac has played three characters across the Marvel Multiverse: Moon Knight in the MCU proper, Apocalypse in Fox’s X-Men, and Miguel O’Hara in Sony’s Spider-Verse films. Come Secret Wars, it is expected that a slew of non-mcu Marvel characters will be making their way into the MCU to fight Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

Given that Doctor Doom would have messed up multiple timelines and could have made enemies outside the Sacred Timeline, it is expected that even antagonists will join the fray to battle God Emperor Doom. Oscar Isaac might be there as Moon Knight, but there is one other character that could aid the heroes of the MCU to fight Doom, someone already confirmed to be part of the same multiverse depicted in the MCU: Miguel Ohara a.k.a Spier-Man 2099.

Gravitas Ventures Acquires North American Rights to Documentary ‘Lady Buds’

Gravitas Ventures, a Red Arrow Studios company, acquired North American rights to the documentary “Lady Buds,” directed, produced and written by Chris J. Russo.

“Lady Buds” tells the story of six women in cannabis who left their livelihoods behind in the underground market to forge a path to legalization in California as they attempt to claim their piece of the “American dream” in the very market they helped create.

“In her confident and ambitious feature debut, Russo highlights six women who are as interesting as they are inspiring. Seeing these underdogs fights against bureaucracy and regulations make for a highly insightful and engaging film,” says David Sullivan, sales and acquisitions manager at Gravitas Ventures. “We can’t wait to play our part in getting this timely and enjoyable film out into the world.”

Sullivan negotiated the deal with Travis Tammero at CAA.

Copro Series

“Antonio,” (Enrique Videla, Paula del Fierro, Zumbastico Studios, Pipeline Studios, Chile)

Paul Schrader to Direct Sigourney Weaver and Joel Edgerton in Master Gardener
On the eve of the world premiere of his new Oscar Isaac-led drama The Card Counter, Paul Schrader has announced his next project. While he’s hinted he’ll be reteaming with Martin Scorsese for a series about Christianity and reunite with Willem Dafoe for a western, it looks like those are on the backburner with this new film set to kick off shooting early next year.

Titled Master Gardener, the drama stars Joel Edgerton and Sigourney Weaver in the story of a––you guessed it––master gardener of an American estate who is forced to confront his dark past. Edgerton plays Narvel Roth, the meticulous horticulturist of Gracewood Gardens. He is as much devoted to tending the grounds of this beautiful and historic estate, to pandering to his employer, the wealthy dowager Mrs. Haverhill (Weaver). When she demands that he take on her wayward and troubled great-niece Maya...

Breaking Glass Pictures Takes U.S., Canadian Rights on Hernandez, Matamoros-Directed ‘Isaac’ (Exclusive)
Image
Philadelphia-based Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired North American rights to Angeles Hernández and David Matamoros’ feature debut “Isaac,” a genre-blend of drama, black comedy and an existential journey.

Breaking Glass plans a third quarter 2021 release for the movie. The deal was struck by Richard Wolff, president of Breaking Glass Pictures, and “Isaac’s” world sales agent Brett Walker, along with Miguel Govea, at U.K.-based Alief.

“Isaac” is produced by Hernández and Matamoros’ Barcelona-based Mr Miyagi, co-producer of Netflix hit “The Platform.”

Based on the Spanish stage play by Antonio Hernández, “Isaac” follows two old friends, Denis and Nacho, who meet again – both with their respective partners – years after having an intense relationship as teenagers.

“We very much enjoyed ‘Isaac,’” said Wolff, adding: “This beautifully produced and acted film is about strength, love, and finding oneself.”

A surrogate drama too, “Isaac” deals with the challenges of family and desire...
