‘Jay Kelly’ Teaser: George Clooney Grapples with Fame in Noah Baumbach’s Venice-Bound Drama
Image
“Jay Kelly,” Noah Baumbach’s return to directing after “White Noise,” already has proven to be an awards contender. Of course, it helps that the feature will screen at NYFF 2025 after premiering at Venice, and studio Netflix has given the film a theatrical release just in time for the Oscars push. But what about the titular Jay Kelly himself?

The feature, whose elusive logline remains, centers on George Clooney’s Jay Kelly, a fictional A-list movie star in his 60s who faces a personal reckoning when he travels to an Italian film festival to receive a tribute award. The synopsis reads: “The film follows famous movie actor Jay Kelly (Clooney) and his devoted manager Ron (Adam Sandler) as they embark on a whirlwind and unexpectedly profound journey through Europe. Clooney is Right, Adam Sandler Was Not a Comedian in the Highest Rated Movie of His Career
Image
Adam Sandler is much more than just the person that people view him through those comedic lenses, and the highest-rated movie of his career actually proves that. Though he is famed for all his physical and voice acting comedy roles that have established him as a Goat primary comedic leading actor in films, his flick Hustle from 2022 shows a different side of him.

The movie is set in the world of Stanley Sugerman, the travel-weary Philadelphia 76ers NBA scout whose love for basketball is unparalleled, but who is stuck looking for the next unknown talent while having higher dreams of being a coach. His search eventually leads him to Bo Cruz, a raw but talented player in Spain, with whom he connects on and off the court.

With their passion for the game and as loving family men who want to prove that they can win, both in basketball as well as in life,...

'Really Wonderful Actor:' George Clooney Says There More To Adam Sandler Than Goofy Comedies
Image
George Clooney recognizes just how good Adam Sandler can be with the right script. The actor recently heaped praise on his Jay Kelly co-star for his portrayal of more serious roles.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Clooney discussed what it was like working with director Noah Baumbach on his upcoming film Jay Kelly and his relationship with Sandler, who plays the titular actor's manager, Ron. Although some of Sandler's comedy films have been criticized over the years, Clooney believes that Jay Kelly will showcase his acting range. "This film, more than any film Adam has done, shows what a beautiful, heartfelt, soulful actor he is," the actor said.

"I kept telling the cast, 'Don't call him Sand Man. Don't talk to him like he's just some goofy comedian,'" Clooney continued. "He's actually a really beautiful, wonderful actor. Because of what his paycheck is, which is doing big goofy comedies, when he does these other,...

Image
George Clooney recently told Vanity Fair that he could not adhere to Noah Baumbach’s usual directing style of multiple takes when the duo teamed up for Netflix’s “Jay Kelly,” which is world premiering in competition at the Venice Film Festival later this month before bowing on Netflix later this year.

“I literally said to him, ‘Noah, look, I love the script. I love you as a director, but I’m 63 years old, dude — I can’t do 50 takes,’” Clooney said. “‘I don’t have it in me. I’ve got the acting range from A to B.’”

Clooney headlines “Jay Kelly” in the title role. Written by Baumbach and Emily Mortimer, the film stars the Oscar winner as a world famous movie star in his 60s who faces a personal reckoning when he travels to an Italian film festival to receive a tribute award. After Topping the Charts, Happy Gilmore 2 Brought Adam Sandler an Exciting Record on Netflix
Image
Adam Sandler and Netflix's partnership continues. The actor has released several films on the streaming platform after signing a deal in 2014, and has just premiered Happy Gilmore 2.

The sequel comes 29 years after the original, and it brings back not just Sandler but many beloved characters from the 1996 cult classic. The movie debuted with mixed reviews, but it has turned into a hit. Per Tudum, Happy Gilmore 2 debuted straight at the top of the charts, and it also brought Adam Sandler a record: the highest opening for any of his Netflix films. Not just that, but Happy Gilmore 2 had the biggest U.S. opening weekend of all time for a Netflix film.

Happy Gilmore 2 debuted with 46.7 million views and 91.9 million hours viewed. It flew all the way to No. 1 on the global charts, which was aided by the fact that it became the top film in 47 countries,...

Adam Sandler Shows He Still Has Plenty Of Movie Star Clout With ‘Happy Gilmore 2’s Record-Breaking Opening Weekend On Netflix
Image
It’s been nearly three decades since Adam Sandler introduced us to Happy Gilmore, and audiences showed how much the Sandman and his beloved character still resonate following the record-breaking opening weekend of Happy Gilmore 2.

According to the Netflix Top 10 released Tuesday, the film amassed 46.7 million views in its first three days, making it not just best opening ever for an Adam Sandler Netflix film but also the biggest U.S. opening weekend for a Netflix film period. The original 1996 film also came in at No. 3 on this week’s chart with 11.4 million views.

In addition, Sandler’s Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation was No. 7 in the most recent weekly rankings, while both his Grown Ups move have also recently seen time on the streamer’s viewership charts.

The Happy Gilmore sequel, which bowed on the streamer Friday, also made an impact on the social media front, trending all weekend...

Happy Gilmore 2 (2025) Movie Review: A Nostalgia-Heavy Legacy Sequel With Not Enough Laughs
Image
Considering the toxic track record that comedy sequels tend to have, the fact that “Happy Gilmore 2” (2025) is not a complete disaster is a minor miracle, as it hardly stoops to the lows of “The Hangover: Part II,” “Beverly Hills Cop III,” or “Caddyshack II.” However, the long-anticipated sequel to one of Adam Sandler’s most beloved films does little to stand on its own and is likely to be as easily forgotten as the other generic comedies that he has been making for Netflix over the past decade.

Sandler is an intriguing movie star because he has shown, frequently in films like “Uncut Gems” and “The Meyerowitz Stories,” that he is capable of doing great work when given the opportunity to work with a talented filmmaker. Unfortunately, nearly every film he has made through the Happy Madison production company has the same issues; the product placement is grossly evident,...

But Sandler isn’t anchored in the realm of absurdity, and some of his best performances have come in some incredibly serious dramatic roles.

Ben Stiller and Jessica Lee Gagné on the Arts and Crafts Behind the Art and Craft of Hit ‘Severance’
Image
On June 5, the IndieWire Honors Spring 2025 ceremony will celebrate the creators and stars responsible for some of the most impressive and engaging work of this TV season. Curated and selected by IndieWire’s editorial team, IndieWire Honors is a celebration of the creators, artisans, and performers behind television well worth toasting. We’re showcasing their work with new interviews leading up to the Los Angeles event.

Eight years ago — still two years before Apple TV+ launched, and five years ahead of the “Severance” premiere — Ben Stiller was “desperately seeking a cinematographer.” He was in pre-production on the Showtime (remember Showtime?) limited series “Escape at Dannemora,” a prison break thriller that would mark Stiller’s first serialized directorial effort, and he couldn’t find a director of photography fit for the long shoot ahead.

At the same time, Jessica Lee Gagné was moving to France. “I was actually intentionally not moving to the U.

Ben Stiller's Evolution Away From Comedies Explained By Longtime Collaborator
Image
Ben Stiller’s long-time collaborator explains why the actor-producer-director has evolved away from doing comedies. Indeed, there has always been a strain of seriousness in his work, but with movies like Dodgeball, Zoolander and Tropic Thunder to his credit, it’s no surprise Stiller is primarily identified with comedy. In recent years, the one-time SNL cast-member has begun mining that serious side more heavily, as evidenced by his acclaimed series Severance, a show as likely to go for an emotional gut-punch as a wacky punchline.

Having worked with Stiller many times over the years, composer Theodore Shapiro has witnessed the filmmaker’s evolution, and has insight into why Stiller’s work has shifted to the dramatic, telling ScreenRant that his collaborator has discovered new tones since the days of Tropic Thunder, which was all about constantly upping the manic energy, leaving no room for other shadings:

I think that Ben's...

Noah Baumbach’s ‘Jay Kelly’ Gets First Image and Awards-Friendly Release Date

Noah Baumbach is getting back in the awards race, and he’s bringing a star-studded cast including George Clooney and Adam Sandler.

Netflix has announced that Baumbach’s upcoming feature “Jay Kelly” will open in theaters on November 14 before hitting the streaming service on December 5. The announcement was accompanied by a photo of Clooney, who plays the title character, walking past a poster of himself.

“Jay Kelly” appears to be a return to the familiar territory of middle aged neuroses for Baumbach, following the apocalyptic ambition of his previous feature, “White Noise.” While little is known about the film’s plot, it is believed to center around the relationship between Clooney’s eponymous character and a longtime friend played by Sandler. Interview with cast from Lucky Star (2024): This pressure that builds and builds, and then – bam
Image
In Gillian McKercher‘s first feature, “Lucky Star”, there is no escapist fantasy or whiff of bicoastal elitism. Instead, there are only temptations: Lucky (Terry Chen), an ex-gambler, starts to reach for the cards after he falls for a tax scam; his wife Noel (Olivia Cheng) wrestles with returning a lost watch amounting to the tens of thousands; their eldest, Grace (Conni Miu), wonders if she should confess her academic dishonesty. All the while, their youngest, Jenny (Summer Ly) presides over the family discord. As the characters’ internal struggles spill into their interpersonal relationships, “Lucky Star” captures an entangled mess of love and lies amid the bone-chilling cold of Alberta winter.

We brought together Gillian McKercher and three of her cast on the occasion of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (Sbiff) over Zoom. Together, we talked about moving beyond stereotypes, the infamous Canadian cold, and Alberta Asians.

Adam Sandler's Performance in Netflix's 'Jay Kelly' Is Already Getting Oscar Buzz

Happy Gilmore star Adam Sandler could be all set for Oscar glory with his new movie. Sadly, no, it’s not Happy Gilmore 2. The beloved actor and comedian will reunite with Netflix once again for an upcoming coming-of-age comedy-drama, with a source who's seen the movie revealing that, not only will the streamer campaign hard for Sandler to be considered by the Academy, but that could even win a coveted golden statue.

Titled Jay Kelly, the movie is being helmed by Academy Award nominee and Marriage Story director Noah Baumbach, and could be described as a coming-of-middle-age comedy as it follows friends, played by Sandler and George Clooney, who rediscover their youthful spirit during a chaotic reunion.

Now, buzz from an early screening (via World of Reel) has emerged, with “industry sources, journalists, and test reports” stating that Sandler steals the show in Jay Kelly, with the Billy Madison star delivering a career-best performance.

When Christopher Nolan Lashed Out At Netflix’s Movie Streaming Strategy: “This Mindless Policy Of…”
Image
What Did Christopher Nolan Say About Netflix’s Movie Streaming Strategy? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Christopher Nolan has always been a staunch defender of the theatrical experience, from the massive IMAX spectacle of Dunkirk to the intricate storytelling of Inception. So, when he lashed out at Netflix for its streaming-first approach, it was no surprise. “Netflix has a bizarre aversion to supporting theatrical films,” Nolan asserted in an interview with IndieWire.

“They have this mindless policy of everything having to be simultaneously streamed and released, which is obviously an untenable model for theatrical presentation.” For Nolan, cinema’s magic is in theaters—big sound, towering visuals, and shared vibes. Streaming doesn’t compare. Dunkirk proved it, with its land, air, and sea action peaking on IMAX.

Netflix backed films like Okja and The Meyerowitz Stories, but Nolan wasn’t sold. “The investment that Netflix is putting into interesting filmmakers and interesting...

Ben Stiller Finally Broke A 7-Year Acting Hiatus In 2024, But His Work In This 96% Sci-Fi Show In 2025 Is Even More Exciting
Image
Ben Stiller's return to acting after his seven-year break was exciting, but his work behind the scenes on a sci-fi TV show with 96% on Rotten Tomatoes - Severance - is arguably even more thrilling. When it was revealed that Stiller would be developing a TV show for AppleTV+, many assumed it would be as one of the leads in Severance's cast of characters. This would have marked a return to lead acting for Stiller for the first time in many years, but Severance season 1 saw Stiller absent from the cameras and spotlights.

Stiller's role in Severance is different, meaning his return to acting was pushed back by a few years. In 2024, though, the iconic actor returned to the screen with the Christmas comedy-drama Nutcrackers. Stiller's last lead performance before Nutcrackers came in seven years prior in 2017 with The Meyerowitz Stories. Although Stiller's on-camera return was very welcome, his...

Ewan McGregor, Julia Roberts, Juliette Lewis, Dermot Mulroney, Meryl Streep, Chris Cooper, Margo Martindale, and Abigail Breslin in Un été à Osage County (2013)
Everything Must Go Review – Tromsø International Film Festival
Ewan McGregor, Julia Roberts, Juliette Lewis, Dermot Mulroney, Meryl Streep, Chris Cooper, Margo Martindale, and Abigail Breslin in Un été à Osage County (2013)
The death of a parent or the need to move them from the family home has been ripe fodder for filmmakers. From the vitriolic August: Osage County to the gentler One Fine Morning, we see characters wrestling with their past, contending with their present and getting a glimpse of their future. With Everything Must Go, screenwriter and film director Arild Østin Ommundsen has created something more reminiscent of The Meyerowitz Stories: both films focus on three grown-up siblings – two men and a woman – and both use humour to counteract the sadness of the family situation as memories are re-evoked and distant childhood events are gazed on and re-evaluated by adult eyes.

The film opens with the sound of piano playing and a thud as the patriarch plays his final notes. When the family gathers for the funeral, sister Ellen wastes no time dealing with the next stage: cleaning out...

Why Lucy Albright From Tell Me Lies Looks So Familiar
Image
Hulu's original series "Tell Me Lies" became a huge and somewhat unexpected hit after its first season released in 2022, and that's probably because its story of a deeply toxic college relationship is just so universal. Based on Carola Lovering's book of the same name and adapted by Meaghan Oppenheimer (who previously worked on "Fear the Walking Dead" and "Queen America"), "Tell Me Lies" splits its timeline in two, telling the twisted "love" story of Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White), who meet at Baird College in upstate New York and carry on an on-again, off-again relationship that ends up creating plenty of collateral damage. In 2008, Stephen and Lucy are carefree students at Baird, but in 2015, they're trapped together at a wedding ... and it's clear that things aren't quite finished between them.

Van Patten, like her co-star White, comes from a Hollywood family (White is...

Adam Sandler's Next 3 Movies Would Make Absolutely No Sense For Anyone Else & We Should All Be Grateful
Image
For decades, Adam Sandler has been one of Hollywood's biggest stars, churning out hit comedy after hit comedy despite the less than stellar reputation a lot of them might have. His '90s run is one of his career high points with an impressive group of films that include Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, and Big Daddy. Most of these films work so well solely because of Sandler's work in them.

Looking at Adam Sandler's best films overall tells a much different story, though. Under all the over-the-top comedic antics, Sandler's ability to bring out incredible dramatic performances is what helps to set him apart for so long in his career. Even his upcoming run of films would make no sense for most actors, but that is what makes Adam Sandler so interesting as an actor.

Adam Sandler's Career Has An Identity Problem That Has Led...

Ben Stiller Stars In Two Of 2024’s Most Offbeat Christmas Comedies
Image
Ben Stiller makes a strong acting comeback by starring in two of the most surprising 2024 Christmas movies, Nutcrackers and Dear Santa. Released in the same week as Lindsay Lohan’s Our Little Secret (Netflix) and Hallmark’s Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, Stiller’s offbeat Christmas movies stand out among a 2024 slate of holiday rom-coms and classic tales like Disney’s An Almost Christmas Story. Every year, only a few films offer a twist to the beloved genre, with some even becoming unusual Christmas movies to watch over the holidays.

Dear Santa's reviews praise its shockingly heartfelt premise, as it replaces Santa with Satan and has him grant three wishes to an awkward tween, Liam (Robert Timothy Smith). Dear Santa has a great cast, featuring Jack Black as the hilarious demon and giving Stiller one of his most bizarre roles. Nutcrackers’ cast of characters are just as alluring,...

Nutcrackers Review: A Throwback to the kind of movies Ben Stiller made in the 2000s
Image
Plot: A Chicago executive (Ben Stiller) must look after his late sister’s four rambunctious children while trying to find them a foster home the state won’t separate them.

Review: Believe it or not, it’s been seven whole years since Ben Stiller last headlined a movie. Granted, he hasn’t exactly been idle, with him making a whole new name for himself as a director with the limited series Escape at Dannemora and then his major hit for Apple TV +, Severance (which has a second season on the way). Given this new move behind the camera, outside of cameos, he hasn’t headlined a movie since the one-two punch of Brad’s Status and The Meyerowitz Stories back in 2017. The last Frat Pack-style Stiller movie was Zoolander 2 from the year before (a movie whose failure reportedly deeply shook his confidence).

His return to form, Nutcrackers, casts Stiller to type,...

The Best Adam Sandler Movie Gets a Gorgeous 4K Release
Image
Adam Sandler is an actor who many tend to associate with dumb comedy classics from the '90s, but since then, he's known for even less mature, repetitive comedies such as Grown Ups, or an unending stream of vaguely thematically different rom-coms like Just Go with It or 50 First Dates. Most of these (often painfully unfunny) movies are produced or written by Sandler himself. However, from time to time, Sandler places himself in the hands of other creatives, which often yields better results. The actor won an Independent Spirit Award for his performance in Uncut Gems, but this is arguably not his best movie.

Paul Thomas Andersons 2002 drama Punch-Drunk Love is an incredibly quirky film which stars Sandler as Barry Egan, a socially awkward and chronically nervous businessman. The movie follows Barry through a series of bizarre adventures as he falls in love with his sisters co-worker Lena (Emily Watson...

With the month winding down, we picked the three best movies leaving Netflix in November 2024. We highly recommend watching these movies before they leave in a few days.

At the end of every month, Netflix usually loses the streaming rights to at least a handful of licensed movies. Some of these movies are the most popular movies on Netflix, but more often than not, it's older films.

Let's get the list started with Two Weeks Notice -- which you don't have to watch these movies; it's more like five days notice -- starring Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant!

Two Weeks Notice

Nutcrackers Review | No Christmas Miracle Here
Image
As we learned from the 1999 Adam Sandler-fronted Big Daddy, there is always a market for stories of unsuspecting adults reluctantly becoming first-time parents or caregivers out of the blue and coming to a heartwarming epiphany. It's the kind of story Hollywood has told for over a century, from Charlie Chaplin's The Kid to the five film adaptations Silas Marner made before 1923 a man grows by caring for a child. Hell, Michael Keaton's about to do it in the upcoming Goodrich. Director David Gordon Greens new film, Nutcrackers, attempts to tap into the same emotions as those films and might feel like a homecoming from his first full-length feature, 2000's George Washington. With that in consideration, the right ingredients are in place.

Nutcrackers takes place during Christmastime, and has a more than capable lead in Ben Stiller (in his first lead role since 2017s The Meyerowitz Stories). It...

Hulu Acquires Ben Stiller’s ‘Nutcrackers’ Out of Toronto
Image
“Nutcrackers” has found its home.

The Ben Stiller-led comedy from director David Gordon Green, which charmed audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival (where it was the opening night event), has been picked up by Hulu, TheWrap has confirmed. Acquired in an eight-figure deal, Hulu plans to release the movie this Christmas.

The movie also stars Linda Cardellini, Edi Patterson, Tim Heidecker and Toby Hussles, along with real-life siblings Homer, Ulysses, Atlas and Arlo Janson. The brothers play siblings that Stiller’s character is forced to take care of after his sister dies in a car accident.

Rivulet’s Rob Paris and Mike Witherill, and Rough House’s Nate Meyer are producers. Leland Douglas wrote the script. UTA Independent Film Group reps WW rights on the film. Rivulet Films fully financed, and Rough House developed it with Douglas.

This is Stiller’s first leading role since 2017’s “The Meyerowitz Stories...

Ben Stiller: Net Worth, Age, Height & Everything You Need To Know About The Zoolander Actor
Image
Ben Stiller has been a major blockbuster star since the 1990s, and he has the impressive net worth to go along with a prolific and successful career. The son of Jerry Stiller of Seinfeld and The King of Queens fame and Anne Meara, an Emmy-nominated comedian and actress, Ben Stiller was likely always going to end up being a comedic actor. What wasn't so assured was just how successful he would end up being. After some strong early roles, Ben Stiller became one of the funniest comic actors working, getting his first major comic part in Heavyweights.

Then came Happy Gilmore, There's Something About Mary, Zoolander, Meet the Parents, and much, much more. He has not only focused on the comedy side, putting in impressive performances in dramatic films like The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Meyerowitz Stories. His Hollywood family doesn't end with his parents either.

How David Gordon Green Blended ‘Bubblegum and Artsy Fartsy’ for Ben Stiller Comedy ‘Nutcrackers’ | Wrap Studio
Image
One of the buzziest titles premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival this year is “Nutcrackers,” and for good reason. Not only is “Nutcrackers” Ben Stiller’s first starring role in a movie since 2017’s “The Meyerowitz Stories,” but it is also director David Gordon Green’s first non-horror movie since 2017’s underrated “Stronger.”

But from where did “Nutcrackers,” the story of a workaholic (Stiller) who has to travel to rural Ohio to look after his recently orphaned nephews after his sister dies in a car accident, originally stem?

From real life, actually.

At TheWrap’s 2024 TIFF Studio sponsored by Moët & Chandon and Boss Design, Green told TheWrap editor-in-chief Sharon Waxman that he visited his friend Carrie, who is the real-life mother of the four boys in the movie, on their farm and had the idea to make a movie about her family. “And maybe a year ago, we...

Ben Stiller Says Making Movies in Canada Is an “Amazing Experience” as Toronto Fest Kicks Off
Image
The Toronto Film Festival on Thursday returned post-strikes with Hollywood star wattage as Ben Stiller and director David Gordon Green gave a glittering lift-off for their opening night film Nutcrackers.

Gordon Green introduced Stiller to the crowd at Roy Thomson Hall in the Canadian city that looked primed for film fest fun with the opening night comedy. The Zoolander and Tropic of Thunder star then recalled making movies in Canada.

“When people will talk to me sometimes about the Night at the Museum movies, they’ll say, Wow, what’s it like to shoot in the Museum of Natural History? And I’ll say it was actually a warehouse in Vancouver,” Stiller recounted.

“I’ve made a bunch of movies in Canada, and it’s always been an amazing experience,” Stiller added. His comments followed Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau touting Canada as a foreign location destination for Hollywood. “Our...

‘Nutcrackers’ TIFF Red Carpet Premiere Photos: Ben Stiller & More
Image
The premiere of Nutcrackers starring Ben Stiller and Linda Cardellini kicked of the 2024 Toronto Film Festival Thursday night, with several other actors in attendance on the red carpet.

The film centers Stiller’s Mike, a no-nonsense workaholic who takes over caregiving for his orphaned nephews that challenge his straig-laced living style. Working to find them a new home after their parents die in a car accident, Mike is forced to adjust to farm life before he realizes he may find a home with his nephews. This marks Stiller’s first movie role in seven years following 2017’s The Meyerowitz Stories and Brad’s Status. In between those and Nutcrackers, Stiller has spent time directing and producing 2018’s miniseries Escape at Dannemora and Apple’s sci-fi thriller show Severance, which has a second season arriving in January 2025.

Co-head of Rivulet Films, the financial backer of the TIFF Opener Rob Paris described the...

Rivulet Films Co-Heads Rob Paris & Mike Witherill Talk Fully-Financing David Gordon Green’s TIFF Opener ‘Nutcrackers’ With Ben Stiller
Image
Exclusive: One year ago in Toronto, with the dual writers’ and actors’ strikes still in full swing, Rivulet Films co-founders Rob Paris and Mike Witherill were in the throes of packaging a project with David Gordon Green attached to direct a WGA script. Unable to secure an interim agreement to get the go ahead, that project fell apart. But all was not lost because the next day, Green called Paris and had a non-wga script for him that he wanted to direct but they had to move fast because the director had a Q1 2024 commitment.

That project was a script from Green’s friend Leland Douglas called Nutcrackers about Mike, a straight-laced workaholic who has to travel to rural Ohio to care for his four nephews after their parents die in a car accident. After weeks of farm-life mayhem, Mike realizes he won’t have to find a new home...

The Toronto International Film Festival 2024 is kicking off on Thursday night, and people strolling through its streets can already see that the Canadian metropolis is ready to roll.

People started taking waiting positions for fan zone spots on Thursday, the poutine and other food trucks opened up, and movie posters and other marketing messages have taken over the streets of the city.

For example, a Lego figure, put up to promote Piece by Piece, the animated documentary about singer, songwriter and record producer Pharrell Williams that recently opened the 51st Telluride Film Festival, greeted people in David Pecault Square on Thursday, and people could be spotted taking pictures of it.

‘Tell Me Lies’ Star Grace Van Patten Is No Longer Shy About Her Relationship, Both On and Off the Screen
Image
When Tell Me Lies debuted in the fall of 2022, no one was sure how it would do. The Hulu series, about a toxic relationship between two students at a fictional college, was the first project to come out of Emma Roberts’ adaptation-focused first-look deal at the streamer and featured a cast of relatively unknown — at the time — actors. But then, very quickly, star Grace Van Patten began to notice something strange; when she walked around Los Angeles with Jackson White (who plays the other half of the aforementioned toxic relationship), girls were rolling down their car windows or stopping them on the sidewalk to scream at her to get away from White, as if the world of the show were real.

“It felt like we were on a reality show,” Van Patten says. “It was cool that people were so invested in these characters — but also a little scary because...
