In Hollywood, there’s no greater risk than mounting a vanity project. You know the type – when a director or star achieves superstar level, they can’t resist the temptation to turn their pet project into a film, no matter how poorly conceived or uncommercial it may be. When a star gets that big, chances are they’ll find someone to fund their movie, with notable examples being John Travolta’s Battlefield Earth, Chris Pine’s Poolman, or The Weeknd’s recent flop, Hurry Up Tomorrow.
Somewhat in that vein, but not as egregious, is the way that star Vin Diesel, whenever his stardom hits a peak as opposed to a valley, uses the opportunity to try to make his favourite character, Riddick, a household name. One can see why Diesel might hold the character in high regard, with the original Pitch Black arguably the first true Vin Diesel movie.

Daniel Day-Lewis Wearing Lincoln Costume On Set (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Daniel Day-Lewis doesn’t sign on to a film unless he sees something worth his full immersion. So when Steven Spielberg had his heart set on him for a long-planned film about Abraham Lincoln, the path didn’t prove to be smooth. Spielberg had been circling the idea of a Lincoln biopic for years, but getting the actor to agree took far more than a simple offer.
Steven Spielberg’s Early Pitch Failed To Impress Daniel Day-Lewis
Back when the project was still finding its shape, Spielberg approached Day-Lewis with a version of the script that wasn’t yet rooted in the historical depth it would later have. It wasn’t Tony Kushner’s version, and it wasn’t based on Doris Kearns Goodwin’s detailed biography. The script was completely different or in simple words, it was a less focused attempt.

Pitch Perfect fans might still hold onto the hope that a fourth film gets made, but in the absence of updates, Rebel Wilson's next comedy might help to fill the void. The actress is reuniting with fellow Barden Bella Anna Camp in Bride Hard, playing Sam, a special agent whose latest mission is to be a bridesmaid at her best friend's luxurious destination wedding. Although blending in isn't particularly her forte, the protagonist will be challenged to not blow her cover when the celebration is hijacked by a team of mercenaries, who threaten to ruin the big day with their machine guns and bazookas. Filled with action and Wilson's comedic flare, the upcoming film will arrive in theaters just in time for wedding season.
This isn't the first time that the Pitch Perfect alum has starred in a bridal-themed project. Many might recall her role in Paul Feig's Bridesmaids,...

"The greatest love story of all time, set to the greatest music of our time." That's one of the hooks for the upcoming Romeo and Juliet adaptation from Briarcliff Entertainment, Juliet & Romeo. Briarcliff has set May 9, 2025 (Mother’s Day weekend) as the release date for this bold reimagining of arguably William Shakespeare's most popular play. Joining Briarcliff in bringing this visionary film to the big screen are global independent music powerhouses Lakeshore Records and Broadway Records, in partnership with Hero Entertainment and Rainmaker Films. The synopsis for the film, which seems to be part of a proposed trilogy, reads as follows:
"Set in 1301 at the end of Medieval times, theJuliet & Romeofranchise finds our most famous Star-Crossed lovers turning the tides on the history Shakespeare based his own story on, as they reveal the truth to the very future of the Empire. But the biggest twist in this most beloved of tales,...

After kicking off February with Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals (listen), Trace and I celebrated Valentine’s Day with Mitchell Lichtenstein’s Teeth (listen). Now we’re ready to dive into our first Amityville film on the pod with a look at Tony Randel‘s Amityville: It’s About Time (1992).
In the film, after returning home from New York with an antique clock, family patriarch Jacob (Stephen Macht) is mauled in a horrific animal attack. His ex-girlfriend Andrea (Shawn Weatherly) is forced to stay in his house and look after him and his two teenage children: “juvenile delinquent” Rusty (Damon Martin) and virginal Lisa (Megan Ward). But as the clock takes literal root in the house, time becomes slippery and several characters begin acting oddly.
Why is Lisa becoming a teenage vamp? Did Rusty really vandalize the neighbor’s property? Is Jacob’s leg infected with gangrene or eeeeeevil?...

[This story contains major spoilers from the sixth episode of Paradise, “You Asked for Miracles.”]
Sarah Shahi has been a big Dan Fogelman fan ever since This Is Us.
When Fogelman debuted his beloved NBC family drama back in 2016, he received an email from a fan. Shahi wrote the showrunner to say that she would do any role on the series, she’d even warm up coffee. She was later cast on his short-lived Fox baseball drama Pitch, but they never met. She would go on to other roles on Chicago Fire and The Rookie, lead Netflix’s Sex/Life, and star in films Black Adam and Red White & Royal Blue. It wasn’t until her audition for Paradise, Fogelman’s next mystery series, that they would finally meet.
“He took one look at me and he remembered. He said, ‘Sarah Shahi, you wrote me the kindest email and I’ve been wanting to meet you ever since,'” she recalls now to The Hollywood Reporter.

The divisive sci-fi movie that made Vin Diesel an action hero has now found a new streaming home. Released back in 2000, Pitch Black features a star-making turn from Diesel, and launched the now fan-favorite Riddick franchise, introducing Diesel as the mysterious Richard B. Riddick, a former soldier-turned-mercenary-turned-criminal who finds himself crash landing on an alien planet inhabited by monsters who thrive in the dark. Oh, and an eclipse is coming.
Directed by David Twohy and co-written by Twohy and brothers Ken and Jim Wheat, Pitch Black features Radha Mitchell, Cole Hauser, Claudia Black, and Keith David as some of the other crew members who come to rely on Diesel’s untrustworthy antihero to get them off the planet alive. Which he may just be able to do thanks to his “shine jobbed” eyes, which enable him to see in the dark. Pitch Black is now available to stream on Prime Video in the U.

Dan Fogelman is fast becoming known for delivering television shows that feature a compelling twist baked into their pilot episode. The most notable examples would be This is Us, which begins its pilot by focusing on four separate strangers...and then revealing that they're a family, and the Hulu thriller Paradise, which used its high concept pitch of "the President of the United States was killed, and nobody knows who did it" to cover the larger twist that the President — and seemingly the rest of the world — is living in a massive bunker under Colorado. But Fogelman helped create another twist-based television series, Pitch — which was cut down in its prime.

Dan Fogelman gave us one of the worst movies of the past decade with 2018's "Life Itself." At the same time, he's also responsible for some of the best TV shows to premiere since 2015, like the phenomenal fantasy musical "Galavant," the rather underrated "Pitch," and, of course, "This Is Us."
Those last two series are significant because they debuted within a couple of days of each other and share one very big thing in common: their pilot episodes end with a pretty big plot twist that radically changes what you think the show you're watching is about. This article will not reveal what those twists are, but suffice it to say that Fogelman has a particular style and has continued this trend with his latest TV show, the Hulu political thriller "Paradise."

Hulu's new political thriller, Paradise, is an instant hit, debuting at number one on the streamer's Top 10 chart. The show stars Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us) as a Secret Service Agent tasked with guarding the President, played by James Mardsen (X-Men). It's from This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman, who knows how to produce an excellent drama.
Paradise has a sizzling 82% fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and, so far, it holds a 7.8 / 10 rating on IMDb. MovieWeb's own Greg Archer enjoyed the debut, saying, "Paradise is an exceptional series that checks all the boxes viewers crave — great characters, high-stakes drama, plot twists — and gives Emmy winner Brown yet another chance to shine."

A fun new comedy movie is on its way as the new trailer for Sour Party—the award-winning film from creative duo Amanda and Michael Drexton—teases a fresh twist on the buddy comedy genre.
In a new trailer revealed by Flickering Myth, the irreverent buddy comedy dives into the chaotic lives of two broke 30-something women, determined to reclaim their dignity (and finances) as they navigate the pitfalls of Los Angeles. Audiences can look forward to surprising appearances from an iconic Goonies, Gremlins and Stand By Me alum and a comedic musician known for Pitch Perfect and his role as musical director of The Late Late Show with James Corden. Brimming with satirical wit and wild encounters, Sour Party delivers a sharply feminist twist on a traditionally male-dominated genre, setting the stage for one outrageous ride through friendship, family pressure, and ill-advised get-rich-quick schemes.

Elon Musk has been becoming more and more controversial in the eyes of the left in recent years. Although many support him unconditionally, there are just as many people who have been very vocal about their disapproval of his ideologies and have quite a lot of proof to back their opinions. While being turned into a deity in the eyes of some, he is also the perfect example of the flaws in capitalistic society in the eyes of the rest.

With this much controversy surrounding the founder of X Corp., it is not surprising that even celebrities are voicing their dislike towards him. Marvel star Mark Ruffalo seems to have joined this, being vocal about his opinions on Musk and his beliefs on climate change.

There’s nothing quite like the agony of a TV show canceled before its time, especially when it leaves fans hanging on a cliff so steep you could call it cruel. You’re sitting there, fondling the remote quite clumsily, practically screaming, or perhaps rolling your eyes as the credits roll. What is worse is that you’ll never know what happens next.

Ali Larter is the troublesome ex-wife of an oil company crisis manager in Landman. Larter quickly became a household name in the late '90s and early '00s with her back-to-back hit roles in the cult classic teen sports comedy Varsity Blues, the Reese Witherspoon-led Legally Blonde and horror hits Final Destination and House on Haunted Hill. After finding further success with NBC's Heroes and Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil franchise, Larter took a brief acting hiatus to focus on her family from 2011-14, returning with the Matt LeBlanc-co-starring Lovesick, the acclaimed sports drama Pitch and ABC's The Rookie.
In Landman, Larter stars as Angela Norris, the rowdy ex-wife of Billy Bob Thornton's eponymous oil company crisis manager, Tommy. “Show, don’t tell” is always great advice to filmmakers, but it usually refers to just what’s onscreen. It’s good advice for filmmakers during the pitching stage as well, as producers are looking for ever more details about the projects they’ll be investing in. Visualizing your film or TV project as much as you can in advance, giving as close an approximation as possible to what will be onscreen, has never been more important. And IndieWire has you covered with our “Pitch Your Project: Why Producers Now Expect More” panel at the Future of Filmmaking Summit in Los Angeles November 2.

Horror movies often get the short end of the stick. Many moviegoers overlook the genre, writing it off as always being predictable, too graphic, or too reliant on shock value horror. Horror, however, has versatility that is hard to come by. The genre plays with almost any theme it wants, as long as the result is terrifying. Horror is the perfect breeding ground for social commentary and dissection of real-world issues. The genre is also ideal for mixing into other genres as well.
Some of the best horror movies ever made aren't just horror. More often than not, horror melds brilliantly with other genres. Think of some of the most infamous horror films out there. Alien (1979) and The Thing (1982) are two titles every movie enjoyer knows, but they aren't just horror, they're also sci-fi. Many great horror films are successful because they take advantage of blending genres.

Dan Fogelman is adding another Hulu series to his portfolio, this one set in the high-stakes world in the NFL.
Hulu has given a series pickup to the untitled project, which is from 20th Television and Skydance Sports. Details are sparse, though it is said to involve a generational family dynamic, in addition to its setting in the NFL.
Skydance Sports, it is worth noting, is a joint venture between David Ellison’s Skydance and the NFL. The league is notoriously careful about its brand, but told The Hollywood Reporter last year that it wants to develop more scripted fare via the Skydance Jv.
Fogelman is serving as writer and executive producer alongside Jess Rosenthal with David Ellison, Jesse Sisgold, and Jason T. Reed serving as EPs for Skydance Sports.

Joe Goldberg is in trouble as new You set photos show him being escorted by cops. It is unlikely Joe will get away with his crimes in You season 5, as the show may not allow his murders to go unpunished. You season 5 will introduce new characters, including Joe's potential love interest Bronte.
New set photos from You season 5 tease that Joe Goldberg's luck might have run out. After the game-changing ending of You season 4 revealed Joe (Penn Badgley) to be more dangerous than ever, with the money and resources of his current love interest Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) to help rebuild his image, Badgley's character seems unbeatable.
