Acclaimed actor-filmmaker Anupam Kher has announced his next directorial venture “The Return,” a co-production between Australia and India, at the International Film Festival of India (Iffi), Goa.

The project emerges as Anupam Kher Studio wraps production on “Tanvi The Great,” directed by Kher, slated for international release in late 2025.

“The Return” will be produced in partnership with Australian film company Temple, based at Disney Studios Sydney. The production plans to shoot more than 90% of the film in Australia and will cast an Australian actor in a leading role, utilizing Australian talent across multiple departments. Plot details are under wraps at the moment.

Kher, whose career spans over 540 films and 100 plays across 35 years, has worked with directors including Ang Lee, David O. Russell, and Woody Allen. Dev Patel will star in “The Journeyman,” a crime thriller directed by Tarsem Singh from a script by husband-wife duo Bryan and Alexis Roberts (aka The Roberts). Patel plays a down-on-his-luck tennis pro who is drawn into the dark world of match-fixing to make ends meet for his family.

AGC Studios will fully finance and produce the film with Academy Award nominee Scott Franklin, Patel’s Minor Realm and Lbi Entertainment.

Joining Franklin as producers are AGC Studios chairman and CEO Stuart Ford and Mason Eways for Lbi Entertainment. Shamier Anderson and Stephan James will executive produce for Bay Mills.

AGC Intl. represents the film’s international distribution rights and will introduce the film to buyers at the AFM next week; CAA Media Finance is handling domestic with AGC. Production is set to commence next year.

In The Whale, Fraser is nearly unrecognizable as he is playing a morbidly obese, gay English professor named Charlie who tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter. Per Deadline, Fraser will portray General Dwight D. Eisenhower in the upcoming WWII film, Pressure. Fraser will star alongside Andrew Scott, who is set to play Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg, the man responsible for persuading Eisenhower to change the date of the Normandy invasion. The film is based off the stage play written by David Haig, who also wrote the screenplay alongside the film's director, Anthony Maras. A project that hadn’t been on our radar but damn sure is now, Universal and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions have delivered a stellar trailer for the film Monkey Man today.

Monkey Man will release only in theaters April 5, and while it’s not a horror movie, it looks to be a violent action-thriller that will surely appeal to horror fans. Watch the trailer below!

This one had originally been set up at Netflix, but from what we gather, Peele was so thrilled with Patel’s vision that he pushed for the film to get a theatrical release from Universal.

In a pioneering move, Arclight Films is partnering with film distribution services manager Digital Cinema United (Dcu) to directly distribute remaining and revolving rights to its library on global AVoD, TVoD and SVoD and ancillary platforms.

James Hawes‘ Holocaust drama “One Life” will be the American Express Gala at the 67th BFI London Film Festival.

The film tells the true story of Nicholas ‘Nicky’ Winton, a young London broker who, in the months leading up to WWII, rescued 669 children from the Nazis. Fifty years later, in 1988, Winton is haunted by the fate of the children he wasn’t able to bring to safety in England. It’s not until a live television show “That’s Life” surprises him with the surviving children – now adults – seated all around him that he can finally make peace with the loss he had carried for five decades.

The cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Johnny Flynn, Lena Olin, Romola Garai, Alex Sharp, Marthe Keller, Jonathan Pryce and Helena Bonham-Carter.

While the Cold War has long been over a second one brews between the USA and Russia inside “I.S.S.,” Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s frustratingly broad yet stylish space thriller that just premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Considering the growing political tensions between the two countries today, this is a movie one might be tempted to adorn with adjectives such as “timely” and “urgent.” Except “I.S.S.”—a title inexplicably fashioned with three periods—is too generic a genre exercise to matter, one that vaguely orbits notions such as trust, selflessness, teamwork and the hazards of blind nationalism with the most simplistic messages to transmit about them.

Indonesian horror feature “Losmen Melati” (aka “Motel Melati”) has set theatrical releases in Malaysian and Singaporean cinemas on April 6, and April 13, respectively, following its release in Indonesia on Thursday. The film is co-directed by Mike Wiluan and Billy Christian. It tells the story of a secluded and enigmatic guest house, run by its mystifying owner, Madam Melati. As she lures in unsuspecting visitors to the guest house, they are confronted with their worst nightmares, never to be seen again. Martial arts veteran Sammo Hung is to be presented with a lifetime achievement honor at the upcoming Asian Film Awards. The ceremony is back as an in-person event after a two-year absence and shifts back to Hong Kong after previously being held in Hong Kong, Macau and Busan. Hung is expected to accept the award on Sunday March 12 at the Hong Kong Palace Museum.

“I’m so happy and surprised that I can still win awards these days, especially an award that affirms my entire performing career,” said Hung in a forwarded statement. He has a career as actor, action choreographer, director and producer that stretches some 60 years.

Fans of “The English Patient” will soon get their wish to see Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche reunite on screen for the first time in 25 years. The pair will star in a new take on Homer’s ancient classic “The Odyssey” called “The Return” as directed by Uberto Pasolini. Bleecker Street has acquired the rights to the film for a planned release in 2024.

“The Return” was first announced in April with both Fiennes and Binoche attached, but the details haven’t firmed up until now. Bleecker Street picked up the North American theatrical rights to the movie out of the European Film Market (EFM) going on now in Berlin. HanWay Films will maintain international rights, and has already locked deals in several territories.

Production on “The Return” will kick off in Greece this spring, filming in Corfu and the Peloponnese, before continuing in Italy.

While it's still possible for John Krasinski to return as Reed Richards, a wide variety of actors have been fancast as the McU's main Mister Fantastic. But according to a Reddit post by Marvel leaker MSSmods, Dev Patel is headlining Marvel Studios' shortlist for Reed Richards, allegedly after Andor star Diego Luna's departure from Marvel's consideration.
