Colleen Ballinger is returning to YouTube months after she was accused of racist and inappropriate behavior.

The 36-year-old content creator, best known for her alter ego Miranda Sings, was accused of maintaining exploitative relationships and grooming her young fans in June. At the time, she responded by uploading a 10-minute song about the allegations.

A report followed that accused her of being racist on the set of her Netflix show Haters Back Off. A video from a prior performance also resurfaced, prompting questions about if she was wearing blackface.

Amid the backlash, Colleen‘s tour dates were cancelled. However, she didn’t issue another public response. That changed on Saturday (November 18), when she returned to YouTube with a new vlog and an extended introduction.

Controversy surrounding “Miranda Sings” YouTuber Colleen Ballinger continues to grow, and now her podcasting partner and longtime friend is cutting ties with her.

Ballinger has been engulfed in scandal since allegations surfaced that she “groomed” a young fan, with claims that she’d “formed an inappropriate personal friendship with him while he was between the ages of 13 and 16.”

More recently, further accusations surfaced, claiming that Ballinger shared nude photos of fellow YouTuber Trisha Paytas, taken from the latter’s OnlyFans.

Paytas has acknowledged that she’s a sex worker who displays that side of her endeavours on OnlyFans — which is behind a paywall, and can only be seen by subscribers older than 18.

Now, more allegations are being lodged against Ballinger — by her ex-husband and a writer on her Netflix series, “Haters Back Off!”.

Joshua David Evans — who married Ballinger in July 2015, and split in September 2016 — took to Twitter to claim that Ballinger “gaslit” her fans and him.

“Anyone feeling hurt & gaslit right now, my message to you is this: Your experiences were real. The proof is there. Your trauma should be taken seriously. The proof is there. Your anger is justified. The proof is there. You deserve better. Take your power back. Sending you love,” Evans tweeted.

Haters Back Off has been one of the most highly-anticipated mainstream projects from a digital star. And the Netflix series, which delves into the quirky backstory of Colleen Ballinger’s brilliant character invention, Miranda Sings, arrived on the streaming service yesterday with much aplomb -- and to the confusion and delight of many critics.

By some accounts, translating the YouTube video format into a more traditional TV series isn’t necessarily seamless. “Miranda’s deluded caterwauling is one thing in short videos,” writes The New York Times in its review of the series. “Extended to half-hour episodes [there are eight], it makes for a lot of concentrated sourness.” CNN critic Brian Lowry agrees, comparing Haters Back Off to a Saturday Night Live sketch that’s been stretched to potentially unwarranted lengths -- though he does concede that the series illustrates “the lingering if narrowing gap between YouTube and more traditional platforms.”

I watched this trailer fifteen minutes ago and I'm still unsure if it's really bad or really good. I think it's bad in the sense that it made me ridiculously uncomfortable, but I'm assuming that's what makes it good? Haters Back Off seems to take the SNL skit Superstar and revamp it for a new generation. You have a painfully unaware weird girl (Colleen Ballinger) who looks to be famous with the help of her uncle (Steve Little) via viral videos. We also see her mother (Angela Kinsey) who seems to be aware that her daughter is a little out there. Will she find fame? Probably. 

I still can't get over how this trailer made me feel. I wanted to crawl out of my skin I felt so weird! Then again, that's how a bulk of YouTube personalities act, so once again I'm conflicted. The show premieres on October 14th.

Alert the presses and break out the red lipstick: Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Haters Back Off -- the hotly-anticipated series starring YouTuber Colleen Ballinger-Evans, which represents Netflix’s first original series starring a digital influencer.

In the teaser -- a kind of spoof of traditional movie trailers -- various stats about Ballinger-Evans’ Miranda Sings character flash across the screen, including her one billion YouTube views and 6.5 million subscribers. “Discover the voice that started it all,” the trailer promises, before Miranda is unveiled in all her glory in the midst of one of her signature wails.

Exclusive: Former Telefilm exec has joined the Canadian production outfit.

Vancouver-based production company Brightlight Pictures has hired former Telefilm Canada director of national business affairs Sandra Karr as COO.

Karr will help the company execute its strategic plan by directing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company.

“Sandra’s extensive knowledge and experience within the industry made her an ideal candidate for COO of Brightlight Pictures,” said Brightlight Pictures president Shawn Williamson.

Dallas marks the second online influencer to be tapped to headline a series by the streaming giant following Haters Back Off, a scripted comedy starring Miranda Sings -- the ridiculous alter ego of YouTube star Colleen Ballinger-Evans.

While little is known about Dallas’ unscripted project, the show will reportedly follow him and friends and family as he seeks to catapult his online fame “to the next level,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Colleen Evans, the YouTube mastermind behind the delusional chanteuse, just unveiled two of Miranda’s much-talked-about-but-never-before-seen family members, who are set to costar in the forthcoming scripted Netflix series Haters Back Off.

The network on Tuesday announced summer return dates for its magic-centric series, Penn & Teller: Fool Us and Masters of Illusion, as well as improv staple Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Now hosted by Himym‘s Alyson Hannigan, Penn & Teller will be back for Season 3 on Monday, July 11, at 8/7c. Masters of Illusion, also returning for its third cycle, premieres with back-to-back episodes on Friday, May 20 at 8 pm.
