Exclusive: Bleiberg Entertainment has picked up worldwide rights to action-thriller Escobank: The Hunt For Pablo Escobar’s Lost Fortune, ahead of the European Film Market in Berlin.

Currently in post, the film stars Zohar Liba (El Cid), Dana Frider (Let the Party Begin), Angel Bonnani (7 Days in Entebbe), Geroge Iskandar (Dirty Angels), Rodrigo Poisón (Balas y Katanas) and Harlys Becerra (Locked Up).

Escobank tells the story of a ragtag group of misfits, veterans and ex-cons who embark on a perilous journey in the jungles of Colombia to find the buried barrels of cash left behind by legendary drug kingpin Pablo Escobar before his downfall.

Pic was written by Yaron Nativ, Sharon Shaked and Orit Liba, with the latter directing as well. The film was shot in locations including Miami and Guatemala and was produced by Yaron Nativ for Nn Image LLC/Escobank Pictures LLC, Haim Yehezkel and Shirly Balila.

The British Film Commission (Bfc) and Malta Film Commission have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU is aimed at enhancing the collaboration between the U.K. and Malta screen industries, as well as facilitating film and high-end TV production (Hetv) between the two territories.

In 2022, inward investment production spend soared to $7.72 billion in the U.K., while Malta hosted 24 film and TV projects in 2022 alone.

Major film and Hetv productions filmed across both countries include: Apple TV+’s “Napoleon,” Universal’s “Jurassic World: Dominion,” eOne/Participant Media/Focus Features’ “7 Days in Entebbe,” 20th Century Fox’s “Murder on the Orient Express” and HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”

Viaplay’s first U.K. drama commission, “Rebus,” has gone into production in Scotland. The show has also added some new cast members including “Line of Duty’s” Lucie Shorthouse, Brian Ferguson (“The Ipcress File”) and Stuart Bowman (“The Serpent”).

They will join Richard Rankin (“Outlander”) as John Rebus, the much-loved character John Rebus from Ian Rankin’s bestselling novels.

A producer behind the hit Netflix series “Narcos” has filed a lawsuit claiming he is owed more than 1 million in unpaid profits on the show.

José Padilha sued fellow producer Eric Newman, claiming that Newman has breached an agreement to split all profits on the show 50-50.

The complaint alleges that Newman and his company have received “several millions of dollars in revenues arising from or connected with ‘Narcos’ that have not been reported to Plaintiffs.” The suit seeks to recoup 50 of all unreported revenues, as well as punitive damages.

Newman has a longstanding relationship with Netflix. He is currently producing “Rebel Moon,” the streamer’s mega-budget sci-fi epic from director Zack Snyder. In addition to “Narcos,” his other Netflix projects include “Bright,” with Will Smith, and “Hemlock Grove,” which was the second show the streamer ever produced.

In a message posted on Facebook, Kotto’s wife, Tessie Sinahon, said that the actor died Monday. “I’m saddened and still in shocked of the passing of my husband Yaphet of 24 years,” she wrote.

Exclusive: The Expendables outfit Millennium Media is underway at its Bulgarian studio Nu Boyana on horror-thriller Abyzou, which is loosely based on a Jewish folk tale.

Starring will be Nick Blood (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Emm Wiseman (Winchester), Allan Corduner (Homeland), Paul Kaye (Game Of Thrones), Daniel Ben Zenou (7 Days In Entebbe) and Jodie Jacobs (The West End’s Rock Of Ages).

Set in a Hasidic community, the pic follows a family struggling with unresolved trauma which finds itself at the mercy of an ancient demon bent on destroying them from the inside.

Directed by Oliver Park (Strange Events), script comes from Hank Hoffman (The Clinic) from a story by Hoffman and Millennium’s Jonathan Yunger.

Jeffrey Greenstein, Les Weldon, Yunger and Yariv Lerner of Millennium and screenwriter Hoffman will produce with Millennium’s Sam Schulte as co-producer. Millennium’s Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson and Tanner Mobley are executive producers.

The film is a biopic of British war photographer Don McCullin.

Angelina Jolie has signed to direct Unreasonable Behaviour, about war photogrpaher Don McCullin, for the UK’s Working TItle FIlms and Tom Hardy’s Hardy, Son & Baker.

Hardy and Dean Baker are producing for Hardy, Son & Baker, with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner for Working Title. McCullin and Mark George are executive producers on the project.

No details have yet been announced regarding casting, or shooting dates or locations.

McCullin is known for his black and white images taken during conflicts in Vietnam and Cambodia, which he often risked his life to obtain.

London-based Matchbox films has bagged the U.K., Ireland and Australasian rights to Boaz Yakin’s all-singing, all-dancing gender-fluid romance “Aviva,” from Tbilisi, Béziers and London-based producer/distributor Alief Film.

The film is scheduled for distribution in those territories from the first quarter 2021.

Closed on the eve of the AFM, the deal follows Alief’s earlier U.S. sale of the film to Outsider Pictures and Strand Releasing in April. Outsider released the dance drama virtually in the U.S. in June on fledgling Hollywood movie service Row8.

Strand has also announced a mid-December release date for the film’s distribution for electronic sell-through/transactional video on demand, DVD and BluRay.

Shot on location in Paris and New York, “Aviva” revolves around a pair of transatlantic lovers, Aviva and Eden, whose characters take on both male and female forms at different moments during the narrative.

Entertainment One is winding down its German theatrical operation in coming weeks, we understand.

We hear the company will continue to sell to the key market but will no longer acquire films to directly distribute theatrically, a move which will impact around eight Germany-based staff.

eOne declined to comment on the development, which was first reported in German trade Blickpunkt earlier this month.

The studio set up in the territory three years ago with the local operation overseen by Benjamina Mirnik-Voges, formerly head of acquisitions for Universum.

The distributor had significant success last year with Oscar-winner Green Book, which attracted 1.6 million admissions, good for $15M. Other key releases included Ruth Bader Ginsburg doc Rbg and biopic Judy, both of which amassed more than 100,000 admissions. Among the division’s Berlin Film Festival entrants were 7 Days In Entebbe and Berlin Alexanderplatz, which won five German Film Awards this year.

The two protaganists are played by four different actors expressing both masculine and feminine sides.

Alief Film Company has closed deals with Synapse Distribution for Latin America and Yes Dbs for Israel, following the film’s premiere in competition at the Haifa Film Festival.

The film also played virtually at SXSW, Fantaspoa, Choreoscope Spain and Mexico editions, where it won the top prize.

Ben Schnetzer has been cast as the new lead of FX’s long-gestating “Y: The Last Man” adaptation, a network spokesperson told TheWrap Friday.

The “Warcraft” actor takes over the role of Yorick Brown, the last living cisgender man on Earth, from Barry Keoghan, who exited the drama earlier this month.

Schnetzer joins the previously announced cast of the FX series based on Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra’s award-winning DC Comics sci-fi graphic novel, which includes Diane Lane, Amber Tamblyn, Imogen Poots, Lashana Lynch, Juliana Canfield and Marin Ireland.

Seasoned British producer Kate Solomon (“Green Zone”) has joined former Studiocanal UK boss Danny Perkins at Elysian Film Group as a partner and will spearhead the production side.

Solomon, whose recent credits include José Padilha’s “7 Days in Entebbe,” is best known for her collaboration with the Oscar-nominated director Paul Greengrass with whom she worked on “Green Zone” and “United 93.” She’s also developed projects with Working Title and Film4.

Perkins announced that Solomon had joined the company during a panel discussion at the Intv conference in Jerusalem on March 12. Perkins praised Solomon for her track record and the key relationships she has built within the U.K. industry and beyond. Perkins said he envisioned Elysian Film Group to have 8 more executives on board. The company’s development slate includes a musical and a family movie, as well as some TV series, said Perkins.

Chicago – The psychological desperation of life-or-death decisions are in play within “Beirut,” the new geopolitical thriller featuring Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”). The various mazes within the story, set during the Lebanon civil war of the 1980s, is comparative to “Casablanca,” especially through the world-weary expression of Hamm’s character.

The writer is Tony Gilroy, who specializes in creating story mazes within films like ‘Michael Clayton” and the Jason Bourne series. “Beirut” works primarily on an emotional level, with flecks of revenge, sorrow and time-bomb-ticking personal connections that are destined to explode. The geopolitical nature of the film is rooted in the 1982 Jordanian conflict, which split the decimated title city into “zones,” that placed enemies literally blocks from each other. Like Rick in the film “Casablanca,” the character that Jon Hamm portrays is motivated outside of any heroism, but is eventually brought into a situation that makes his assignment a saving grace.

It was expected to be a close race at the box office this weekend between Marvel's Black Panther, which had won the last four weekends in a row, and Warner Bros.' Tomb Raider reboot. That turned out to be true. However, while Tomb Raider was expected to dethrone Black Panther, that didn't happen, with the Marvel superhero adventure winning for a fifth weekend in a row with $27M, taking down Tomb Raider, which debuted in second with a respectable $23.5M.

With this weekend's big box office win, Black Panther becomes the first movie since Avatar to win its first five weekends in a row, dropping just 33.8% in its fifth frame, with a respectable $7,049 per-screen average from 3,834 theaters, a 108-theater drop from last weekend. This weekend's tally was also good enough to push Black Panther over the $600 million domestic mark, becoming just the seventh movie in history to accomplish that feat.

Chicago – What would you expect from an event subject that has been already rendered four times on film, and deals with terrorism, hijacking and government negotiation? “7 Days in Entebbe” contained all of this, and yet still maintained a separate energy and cinematic artistry. In many ways, it’s one of the most surprising films of the young year.

The story combines some very interesting use of cinema with analogous casting. Character actors Daniel Brühl and Rosamund Pike portray hijackers in conflict, willing to stand up for their leftist beliefs until it comes to actual combat. Actual people are portrayed who were involved in incident (the film is set in 1976), and are treated with a respect to the reality of the situation. The tension of the decision making – should an Israeli task force raid the terrorist camp or should the government negotiate for the release of the hostages? – was...

The sooner Jared Kushner brokers peace in the Middle East, the sooner we’ll stop being forced to suffer through an endless stream of casually entertaining, cable television-worthy movies about the region’s cyclical violence. Films like José Padila’s “7 Days in Entebbe” — a competent but highly compromised dramatization of the 1976 hijacking of Air France Flight 139 — may not be the most dire consequence of the ongoing turf war between Israel and Palestine, but they’re enough to make you wish that Trump’s beleaguered son-in-law would get to work on the negotiation process, no matter his dubious qualifications.

Actually, when you get right down to it, sending Kushner to get the job done in real life isn’t all that different from sending the director of 2014’s “Robocop” remake to do it on screen. At this point, there’s only so much left to say about the most knotted political conflict in modern history,...

An opening slate informs us that the globetrotting thriller “7 Days in Entebbe” takes some creative license with the real-life event it portrays. Every time the location shifts — Athens, Tel Aviv, Entebbe — we’re notified by massive on-screen text that would fit comfortably in a James Bond film. Despite these promising overtures and the pedigree of director José Padilha — best known for the “Elite Squad” films and his contributions to Netflix series “Narcos” — “7 Days in Entebbe” never quite finds its rock ’n’ roll swagger.

Five more films have joined the main lieups of the 2018 Berlin International Film Festival (Feb 15 - 25). A further six films have been selected for the programme of the Berlinale Special.

Steven Soderbergh’s Unsane will get an out of competition world premiere. It stars Claire Foy, Joshua Leonard, Jay Pharoah and Juno Temple and was reportedly shot on iPhone.

Also premiering out of competition is José Padilha’s true story thriller 7 Days In Entebbe, starring Rosamund Pike, Daniel Brühl and Eddie Marsan.

New films from Lav Diaz and Alonso Ruizpalacios will play in competition.

Rupert Everett’s Oscar Wilde biopic The Happy Prince and Becoming Astrid by Pernille Fischer Christensen have been added to the Berlinale Special Gala section.

Bleecker Street Films has unveiled the first official trailer for political thriller Beirut, which will be premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in a few weeks. Set in the 1980s, the film stars Jon Hamm as a Us diplomat who flees Lebanon in 1972 after a tragic incident at his home. Ten years later, he is called back to war-torn Beirut by CIA operatives in order to negotiate for the life of a friend he left behind. The full cast includes Rosamund Pike, Shea Whigham, Dean Norris, Mark Pellegrino, and Larry Pine. At first glance, with Rosamund Pike, this already reminds me of the hijacking thriller 7 Days in Entebbe, but this film tells a completely different story. Focus Features has unveiled the first official trailer for a thriller titled 7 Days In Entebbe (in the UK it's actually titled simply Entebbe), based on the true story of a hijacking of an Air France flight in 1976. The plane was taken over by hijackers when en route from Tel Aviv to Paris, then forced to land in Entebbe, Uganda in an effort to free of dozens of Palestinians jailed in Israel. The film also shows the "most daring rescue mission ever attempted." The cast includes Rosamund Pike, Daniel Brühl, Eddie Marsan, Ben Schnetzer, Lior Ashkenazi, and Denis Ménochet. A historical plane hijacking serves as the inspiration for Entebbe, which stars Daniel Brühl and Rosamund Pike.

Arriving in cinemas in the spring of 2018 is Entebbe, a new film from director Jose Padilha. Padilha has most recently been directing the TV show Narcos, but is also known too for the likes of the brilliant Elite Squad, and the RoboCop reboot.

Entebbe, known as 7 Days In Entebbe in the Us, heads into cinemas in March, and boasts a cast that includes Rosamund Pike, Daniel Brühl, Eddie Marsan, Ben Schnetzer, Lior Ashkenazi, and Denis Ménochet .

The plot is inspired by the 1976 hijacking of an Air France flight on the way from Tel Aviv to Paris, and tells the story of the rescue mission that followed.
