An Excellent Feature that Humanizes Undocumented Immigrants

From Nowhere was warmly received in its world premiere at Austin's SXSW Film Festival. It is a powerful film about the struggles facing three undocumented teenagers who are about to graduate from high school in the Bronx and are trying to seek political asylum. The script is well-written and the young actors do a great job. From my perspective the film creates a means for those who don't know much about the complex situations faced by undocumented immigrants to see their humanity. In a political climate where demagogic politicians are busy dehumanizing immigrants, it is important for the public to see them as individuals with families, personalities, and complicated individual struggles. I would love to see this film gain a wide release and, if not, I hope there are ways for it to be used in schools for educational purposes.

A hidden gem

I want to start by saying that I do not use to write reviews here. I am not that skilled and English isn't my first language and that does not help me either. Now back to the review. THIS IS AMAZING. I am perplexed by how little people voted. 92 as am I writing. This could have a chance to the Oscars maybe. The story is pretty sad and the feelings that this film offer leave a blank space in your heart. But that's not all, the angles and all the filming are very well done. The actors give a strong performance. Just go and see it!

Worst Movie iv'e ever seen

The handling is a little bit sad but it doesnt make sense to the end. Some of the actors give a okay performance but some of them perfoms really bad in my opinion. I wanted to fall asleep while watching the movie because it was so boring but i had to watch it because it was my homework from school. The quality is so bad. It looks like they recorded the movie with a old iphone.

For all immigrants out there.

Truthful story of undocumented life, favorite phrase was: "If all nyc universities checked immigration status, the classrooms 'd be half empty." Great script, brilliant acting.

Three young people facing deportation

From Nowhere (2016) was co-written and directed by Matthew Newton.

It's a movie about three high school students who are threatened with deportation. The three were all admitted to the U. S. with full documentation. They should have been all right in regard to immigration. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, they have to prove to a judge that they shouldn't be deported.

All three of the students are gifted. The U. S. shouldn't want to lose them. It's obviously cruel to send them "back" to a country with which they aren't even familiar. They have a skilled lawyer, who is working pro bono, but it's an uphill struggle for each one. The plot of the movie plays out over the course of their senior high school year.

It's an important movie, and worth seeking out. From Nowhere has an IMDb rating of 6.8. I thought it was much better than that, and rated it 9.
