Anyone else feeling the tension in the room? The red Netflix icon on TV usually evokes joy and excitement, but at this point, it is the opposite. Netflix’s actions are straight-up unhinged and not in a great way. Over the years, the dominating streaming platform has delivered some of the best original movies and series and bestowed subscribers with a myriad of masterpieces in different genres.

However, Netflix has acquired a bad reputation since the platform has started to cancel beloved series like it’s nothing. Anne with an E, Shadow and Bone, Mindhunter — the painful list goes on and on and on. Sure, sometimes a show simply doesn’t do well, and the interest of the viewership is lost, but how does one justify canceling a series that was enjoyed by many and was one of the most anticipated shows of 2025? Leave it to Netflix to come up with reasons.

Netflix’s pattern of canceling shows brimming with potential needs to be studied by experts. They leave their fanbases hanging for years and the only hope for any closure is the small chance another network will pick it up. Mindhunter, The Society, and Sense8 are only a few that come to mind.

The one show that got canceled which stings the most, however, is Anne with an E. The Canadian period drama had a special place in many people’s hearts. It’s a brilliant coming-of-age story with a refreshingly optimistic and creative protagonist.

Not long after Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth Wing took the reading world by storm when it arrived in May 2023, the book was optioned for a television series adaptation. The news came just before the second book in The Empyrean series Iron Flame published in November 2023.

Disney+ is bringing Holes back to life with a new TV series adaptation, and the project has officially been ordered to pilot. The series will reimagine Louis Sachar’s beloved 1998 novel, but this time, it introduces a fresh twist by centering the story around a teenage girl.

Like the original, the new protagonist finds herself at a detention camp where the Warden forces campers to dig mysterious holes in the desert.

The original book followed Stanley Yelnats, a boy sent to Camp Green Lake for a crime he didn’t commit. Over time, Stanley uncovers his family’s deep connection to the camp and its secrets. Published in 1998, the novel became a massive success, winning the National Book Award and the Newbery Medal, and selling millions of copies worldwide.

Sachar also penned a sequel, Small Steps, and a companion book, Stanley Yelnats’ Survival Guide to Camp Green Lake.

Disney+ has ordered to pilot a series based on the acclaimed book from Louis Sachar, “Holes,” an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire. The project will be a new take on the story, this time gender-swapping the characters to make it about a teen girl sent to the desert to toil away in the dirt.

The Disney+ series will be a project of 20th Century Television’s and will be executive produced by Drew Goddard via his Goddard Textiles banner, with Alina Mankin serving as writer and EP and Liz Phang serving as showrunner and EP.

The potential show would be based on the book of the same name by Louis Sachar, which was previously adapted into a 2003 feature film by Walt Disney Pictures.

Alina Mankin serves as writer and executive producer, while Liz Phang will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Drew Goddard will executive produce via Goddard Textiles along with Sarah Esberg. Walden Media, which produced the film, is also producing the pilot and has been attempting to get a series version of the book off the ground for some time, according to sources. Netflix’s upcoming arctic comedy finally has a name and has rounded out cast, as it goes into production in snowy Nunavut, Canada.

Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril’s North of North began production today. The comedy follows a young Inuk mother (Anna Lambe) who wants to build a new future for herself, but finds it won’t be easy in her small Arctic town where everyone knows her business.

Exclusive: Game Of Thrones star Lena Headey is set to reprise her role as an avenging mother in action-thriller Ballistic.

The 300 star will play alongside Amybeth McNulty (Stranger Things) in the project about a mother (Headey) who works for an ammunition manufacturing company but is devastated when her son serving in Afghanistan is killed. Despair gives way to rage and a desire for revenge when she discovers it was a bullet from her factory that was responsible for her son’s death.

Red Sea Media is handling worldwide sales on the movie, which is written and directed by Chad Faust (Girl). Citytv has announced the cast and shared a first photo for Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, which is being made in partnership with NBC’s Universal Television and was ordered to series in June.

The Canadian spinoff, comprised of 10 hour-long episodes, will follow a familiar format as an elite squad of detectives investigate “high-profile crime and corruption” in Toronto. Production is now underway with an eye on a Spring 2024 premiere up north.

Avatar: The Last Airbender fans may gotten an early treat with the revelation of the episode titles for the highly anticipated live-action adaptation coming to Netflix. The poetically named opening episode named The Last Airbender is expected to set the tone for the rest of the show. It ushers the audience into the enigmatic world of Aang, the Avatar.

According to a reported leak, episodes two and three have been titled Warriors and Omashu, respectively. The series saga will then continue from episode four to seven named Into the Dark, Spirited Away, Masks, and The North, in order. The season is set to culminate in an epic finale dubbed Legends.
