Anyone else feeling the tension in the room? The red Netflix icon on TV usually evokes joy and excitement, but at this point, it is the opposite. Netflix’s actions are straight-up unhinged and not in a great way. Over the years, the dominating streaming platform has delivered some of the best original movies and series and bestowed subscribers with a myriad of masterpieces in different genres.
However, Netflix has acquired a bad reputation since the platform has started to cancel beloved series like it’s nothing. Anne with an E, Shadow and Bone, Mindhunter — the painful list goes on and on and on. Sure, sometimes a show simply doesn’t do well, and the interest of the viewership is lost, but how does one justify canceling a series that was enjoyed by many and was one of the most anticipated shows of 2025? Leave it to Netflix to come up with reasons.

Netflix’s pattern of canceling shows brimming with potential needs to be studied by experts. They leave their fanbases hanging for years and the only hope for any closure is the small chance another network will pick it up. Mindhunter, The Society, and Sense8 are only a few that come to mind.
The one show that got canceled which stings the most, however, is Anne with an E. The Canadian period drama had a special place in many people’s hearts. It’s a brilliant coming-of-age story with a refreshingly optimistic and creative protagonist.

In late 2019, Netflix and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) announced that Anne with an E would not return for a fourth season. Although it’s been 5 years since its cancelation, fans who loved the show aren’t over it.

It’s no secret that 2025 is a big year. With some highly anticipated Marvel movies, the return of one of the most iconic rom-com movie series, Bridget Jones, or even controversial projects such as Disney’s Snow White, this year is nothing short of a cinematic rollercoaster. The excitement for something new is here, but who doesn’t sometimes just long for a childhood classic? Even better, a childhood classic with a modern take?
The Answer Studio, which is known for beloved anime productions such as Suzume and Your Name, is delivering just that. The announcement by the Japanese production company that dear Anne will return to the screens in the TV anime Anne Shirley has already brought back the spark. It would be very Anne-coded to leave any information regarding the surrounding news up to the imagination, but instead, let’s take a look at everything we know about...

Disney+ is bringing Holes back to life with a new TV series adaptation, and the project has officially been ordered to pilot. The series will reimagine Louis Sachar’s beloved 1998 novel, but this time, it introduces a fresh twist by centering the story around a teenage girl.
Like the original, the new protagonist finds herself at a detention camp where the Warden forces campers to dig mysterious holes in the desert.
The original book followed Stanley Yelnats, a boy sent to Camp Green Lake for a crime he didn’t commit. Over time, Stanley uncovers his family’s deep connection to the camp and its secrets. Published in 1998, the novel became a massive success, winning the National Book Award and the Newbery Medal, and selling millions of copies worldwide.
Sachar also penned a sequel, Small Steps, and a companion book, Stanley Yelnats’ Survival Guide to Camp Green Lake.

With "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew," Lucasfilm is moving George Lucas' universe into the realm of kid-centric adventure stories -- a genre marked by classics and modern hits like "The Goonies" and "Stranger Things." Even before the "Skeleton Crew" trailer was released, fans were already drawing comparisons between the official description and Amblin Entertainment features like "E.T." and "Super 8."
The show is now almost upon us, and those comparisons have certainly held true. Of course, you can't have a youthful, ragtag adventure without a proper band of young rascals and plenty of adults both benevolent and mischievous to get in their way. The multigenerational cast of "Skeleton Crew" is a big part of its appeal, with tons of young stars and Hollywood veterans alike making their "Star Wars" debuts. It's a lot of new faces, but don't worry, we've got you covered.

What do you do when the last spinoff of your favorite Canadian sci-fi show ended ages ago and you've worn out your DVD box set rewatching it? If you're as obsessive as I am about my favorite franchises, you might just want to catch up with all the show's stars in their most recent projects. Luckily, when it comes to the cast of "Stargate Sg-1," there are plenty of great post-series movies and shows to choose from.
The long-running "Stargate" saga, based on Roland Emmerich's 1994 movie, has fizzled out a bit in recent years, due in part to apparently complicated rights issues. At its height, the franchise included several TV shows and movies, plus novels, comic books, games, and a web series. None of them were quite as beloved as "Stargate Sg-1," which was nominated for nine Emmys and kick-started the careers of several of its stars. Others involved...

Anne with an E was definitely one of the best shows on Netflix. Even though the period drama was canceled in 2019 after three seasons, us fans still think about it and are upset it did not continue and get a proper ending. If you're like me and miss Anne with an E, then you might be looking for something to fill that void. Well, we've got some recs for you!

Stream on Hulu and Disney+
Even though The Artful Dodger has a male lead, that doesn't mean there aren't similarities between the titular character, aka Jack Dawkins, and Anne. Plus, the story serves as a sequel to the events in Charles Dickens' famous novel Oliver Twist, and features a strong female lead, Lady Belle Fox, played by Maia Mitchell. And spoiler alert, there's a romance that brews between Jack and Belle that you will ship just like Anne and Gilbert.

Fans of dragons (and love triangles), your new TV obsession just got closer to reality. On July 21, Amazon announced that “Anne with an E” creator Moira Walley-Beckett would serve as the showrunner of its upcoming “Fourth Wing” TV adaptation.
The TV adaptation of the book world‘s biggest hit of the last few years is sure to be expensive — with a magical universe full of plenty of dragons to create. But this isn’t exactly a “Game of Thrones” ripoff, though everyone involved would of course love those fans to check it out.
“Fourth Wing” is the first book in Rebecca Yarros’ “Empyrean” series, of which two of a planned five installments have been released so far. The first dropped in May 2023, and the second, “Iron Flame,” in November 2023. The adaptation rights to “Fourth Wing” were snapped up by Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, which is behind the planned Prime Video series.

Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth Wing is one step closer to its small screen adaptation with the addition of Moira Walley-Beckett as showrunner.
The book series, which consists of Fourth Wing published in May 2023 and Iron Flame published in November 2023 so far, follows twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail as she leaves the life of a Scribe behind at her mother’s demand that she become a dragon rider. Perhaps best known as the creator of Netflix and CBCs Anne With an E, Walley-Becketts list of credits is an incredibly impressive one that puts her as an excellent choice to take on the daunting task of winning over so many book lovers. Also in her repertoire, Walley-Beckett worked with Starz as the creator and showrunner of the networks limited series Flesh and Bone, and also stepped into the writers room and as a co-executive producer for six years on AMCs Breaking Bad, the latter of which made her a three-time Emmy Award winner.

Anne With An E, though canceled after three seasons, had an optimistic and gritty sense of optimism that resonated with fans. The show explored lesser-known aspects of Canadian history and introduced new characters and storylines not found in the original books. While period dramas like Anne With An E are few and far between, there are other movies and shows, like Derry Girls and The Personal History of David Copperfield, that offer similar storytelling styles.

No couple is safe in Shameless, but Kevin and Veronica have one of the best and healthiest long-term relationships. Although they have their hardships, Kevin and V remain stable and happy no matter what. V is easily one of the smartest and most hardworking characters in Shameless.
Kevin, however, isn't quite as clever as V.

It seems Netflix has a bad habit of canceling television shows on their platform that feature lesbian characters or relationships. The incredible part is that many of these shows have great ratings and loyal fan bases, leading viewers to wonder if Netflix is doing it all on purpose. Whether they are or not, it has been made more than clear that the streaming giant has something against these shows, characters, and relationships.
Indeed, it becomes unmistakably apparent that a problem is occurring when films and television programs that have received mixed reviews are repeatedly renewed or maintained year in and year out, much more frequently compared to any current shows with lesbian appearances. It prompts the question: Why does Netflix keep canceling lesbian TV shows?

If one descends to the lower-most depths of Apple TV’s titular Silo, you will find Rebecca Ferguson’s Juliette, an engineer who over the course of the early episodes will be nudged to rise — figuratively, as well as up many, many levels — to serve a new purpose.
