Before “Sing Sing” became a critical hit and awards darling, it almost failed to launch.
The film, which shows the positive impact that the real-life Rehabilitation Through the Arts (Rta) program has on a group of incarcerated men, features Colman Domingo as a playwright incarcerated after being wrongfully convicted of murder. Domingo is one of only three professional actors in the cast, which is otherwise made up alumni of the Rta program.
It’s an ambitious project by any measure, but filmmakers Clint Bentley, Greg Kwedar and Monique Walton realized — albeit a little late — that it would be near-impossible without industry support. “We just realized that about a month before we started shooting,” says Kwedar, who directed the film. “I remember having a legitimate panic attack.”

The tagline for Werewolves didn’t need to be anything more “Frank Grillo Werewolf Movie” because as fans of Action’s B-Movie Megastar, that’s all we needed to know. You like Frank Grillo? You like Werewolves? Well good news, fellow Venn Diagram movie fan, we’re getting it all in Steven C. Miller’s Werewolves!

That’s essentially the premise of Werewolves. In the near future, a cataclysmic event is brewing that threatens life as we know it. Thanks to a Supernatural Super Blood Moon, anyone caught under the silver glow of that big rock in the sky is suddenly transformed into a snarling beast. And in an...

Looking at life behind bars if found guilty on charges of sex trafficking and more, Sean “Diddy” Combs and his lawyers are now going on the offensive against the Department of Homeland Security.
In a risky tactic, Combs’ defense are accusing Dhs agents of leaking grand jury information and orchestrating a smear campaign against the “It’s All About the Benjamins” performer. As the bail denied Combs stews in the raucous Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, his Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos team are demanding an pivotal hearing in front of Judge Arun Subramanian Asap over the alleged Dhs “misconduct.”

How do you follow a smash hit like “Greedy,” which has spent nine days at Number One of Spotify’s Top 50 Global chart?
If you’re Tate McRae, you write the equally infectious “Exes,” with a chorus that’s catchy enough to put the same kind of success well within reach. Written with pop maestro Ryan Tedder, “Exes” arrives as the second single from McRae’s upcoming album Think Later. Marvel Studios has reportedly contemplated bringing back its classic characters, including deceased ones. Reviving deceased characters removes any sense of stakes and repeats a problematic comic book trope. A future MCU movie must either end in a reboot or submit these cameos as one-time deals in the narrative.
There's a lot in the air as far as fans are concerned when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The plans for the Multiverse Saga don't seem to be as concrete as things were with the preceding Infinity Saga. This is one of several reasons why audience engagement is waning. There's reportedly a Hail Mary being taken into consideration for another Avengers movie, but this plan might not be for the best.

Jada Pinkett Smith and the late Tupac Shakur's were-they-weren't-they relationship is one that still intrigues fans nearly three decades after his tragic death. On Sept. 20, a week after the 27th anniversary of the rapper's death, Pinkett Smith took a trip down memory lane and posted an old clip of the two on Instagram ironically rapping along to her estranged husband Will Smith's classic '80s hit "Parents Just Don't Understand."
"Not in a million years would I have dreamed that the Fresh Prince and I would become, um, very acquainted," she captioned the video, referring to her husband's rap name. "Not in a million years did I imagine three lives, their fates, would be so intertwined. And… I never would have imagined that this video would become a tangible memory, of the last time Pac and I, were simply kids together. Pac and I lip syncing Parents Just...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from the Oct. 4 episode of “Survivor.”
The latest episode of “Survivor” showed just how much people love this game — and will do just about anything to continue, even if they’re not physically thriving .
The episode kicks off with Emily continuing to upset the Lulu tribe. After Hannah’s surprise exit, Kaleb and Sabiyah voice how upsetting it is that she’s continuously calling them out. Emily claims that she’s doing what she thinks is best for her game, and feels she’s being gaslit. She later spirals, and starts very obviously digging for an idol. Since the whole tribe knows she’s looking, they then decide to partner up and look together; when Sabiyah tries to join Emily, she tells her she’d rather look alone.
Unfortunately for Emily, Sabiyah ends up getting the advantage; Brandon is the one to find it,...

(Welcome to 100 Years of Disney Magic, a series examining the history, achievements, and legacy of The Walt Disney Company over the last century. Part 1, "How Walt Disney's First Cartoons Drove Him To Bankruptcy," followed the animator's early life and first forays into the business. In Part 2, we explore the founding of Walt's second — and much more successful — company, Disney Brothers Studio.)
The Walt Disney Company is arguably the most influential media empire of the 21st century, enjoying a firm hold on the public's attention. This is a studio that is a true market maker. People care so much about the Disney business that social media was set ablaze in 2022 by the news that Bob Iger would return as CEO of the Walt Disney Company. With the possible exception of Warner Bros. (and the DC Films IP), what other company has so many non-industry people invested in the corporate leadership?

Media coverage of Jean-Luc Godard’s death will fall short of what he merits. He was a game-changing creator on the level of Sergei Eisenstein, Charlie Chaplin, D.W. Griffith, and others who changed the grammar of film forever, but his best-known films are from a half-century ago. And there’s this: Under the standards by which successful directors are judged today — box office and awards — Godard was strictly a minor-league player.
His lifelong regard as a master is a tribute to his films above all, but it also speaks to a cinephile culture that elevated and supported him for decades despite the general public’s disinterest.
In the U.S., Godard’s films initially received erratic distribution with short-run showings at a few big-city theaters; even his best-known titles like “Breathless” and “Week-end” received marginal releases. They appeared erratically, out of order, and sometimes not until two or three years after their public debuts.

What would you do with a billion dollars? For most people, the question is so absurd as to be essentially meaningless. You could do it all. You could move into a mansion, eat only caviar, drink only champagne, hire a cadre of grovelling butlers and still have enough change left over to buy a respectable mid-size sports club. For a company like Amazon, however – or its multi-multibillionaire CEO, Jeff Bezos – a billion is a bit of a different proposition. That kind of money can buy you a wizard, a battalion of elves, and a few dozen hobbits.

Had all gone according to plan, Michael Dougherty's anthology horror flick, "Trick 'r Treat," would've arrived in theaters on October 5, 2007, giving it several weeks to make box-office hay during the spooky season. But with less than a month prior to its release, Warner Bros pushed the film back indefinitely for unstated reasons. Typically, when a movie gets bumped so abruptly, it's a sign of grave trouble. Whether it's testing poorly with audiences or tracking to fall far short of expectations at the box office, it's at least clear that the studio has no faith in the picture. There was speculation that the disappointment of producer Bryan Singer's "Superman Returns" a year prior might've left WB cool to the project's prospects, but no one was talking. In any event, Dougherty's film vanished from the release schedule, destined to linger in limbo for who knew how long.

Having finished production on Netflix’s “Hillbilly Elegy,” Ron Howard is zeroing on a new directing gig as the “Beautiful Mind” director has come on to direct “The Fixer” for Paramount Pictures.
Howard’s production banner Imagine Entertainment will produce along with Bradley Cooper and Todd Phillips’ Joint Effort shingle. Andrew Panay will also join as producer.
Based on the original pitch by Tyler Hisel, the film is based on the incredible true story of a disgraced FBI agent, who, at the height of the Cold War is tapped by the CIA to lead a ragtag team of CIA operatives and Chicago mobsters on an unlikely mission to try to assassinate Fidel Castro.
Hisel also penned the script and sources tell Variety the project is a top priority for the studio and is likely to be Howard’s next directing job.

Our favorite framily drama is back!
It was a long wait, but the return of A Million Little Things was worth it. It was easy to forget how great this show is, but A Million Little Things Season 2 Episode 1 reintroduced us to many of the qualities that make this series so special.
Let the emotions flow!
One of the best parts of the hour was how it blended angst, drama, and humor. The humor is what keeps the show from being weighed down too much, and despite everything happening in this hour, it was funny.
We can always thank James Roday and Romany Malco for that, along with Tristan Byon's unusual but effective quirk. It's the "God, this is my life" type of humor that anyone who defaults to humor as a coping mechanism can appreciate.

As White’s career evolved, though, she developed a knack for shielding clients and their public image...
