Top Hollywood Directors Decode Vr at First Vrtl Summit
Alejandro G. Iñárritu
Although Virtual Reality (Vr) has yet to take off commercially, so far the Hollywood studios are mostly embracing the new digital frontier as a marketing vehicle to promote their franchises. On Wednesday, Paramount hosted the first Vrtl Summit for Vr professionals and investors, and announced a partnership with MoveoPlus to provide Moveo Virtual Reality Simulators in theaters and theme parks, with content provided by J.J. Abrams and Michael Bay.

While they are among many top directors, from Alejandro González Iñárritu to David Goyer, who are experimenting with Vr storytelling, everyone acknowledges that the technology needs to improve — along with bringing down the cost of those bulky headsets. And the push to bring engaging content to consumers remains a challenge. It comes down to effective storytelling. Nobody’s going to pay for Vr marketing promos, so immersive adventures and interactions with virtual characters are going to have to be compelling for...

Alien: Covenant Vr Experience Will Take You on a Horrifying Journey
Alien: Covenant (2017)
With the May 19 release date for Alien: Covenant getting closer and closer, 20th Century Fox just announced a new virtual reality (Vr) experience for director Ridley Scott's sci-fi adventure. The studio hasn't announced exactly when it will be made available, but this Alien: Covenant Vr experience will be a paid title that will be available on all major Vr platforms. Here's how the team at Fox Innovation Labs describe this Vr experience below.

"(A) dread-inducing journey into the depths of the Alien universe. Viewers will discover the true meaning of terror as they navigate through horrifying alien environments and a story where every decision could mean the difference between life and death."

Variety reports that this experience will be executive produced by Ridley Scott and directed by David Karlak. The project will be a collaboration between Ridley Scott's Rsa Films, the Fox Innovation Lab and Mpc Vr, a Technicolor Company.

Alien: Covenant Virtual Reality Experience to Immerse Fans in “Horrifying Alien Environments”
In virtual reality, no one can hear you scream... Ridley Scott will bring his own brand of horror back to the big screen with the May 19th release of Alien: Covenant, but the filmmaker also has something else in store for viewers: a virtual reality experience based on the universe of the upcoming Alien film.

Variety reports that Scott will executive produce an Alien: Covenant Vr experience that will be directed by David Karlak with the collaboration of The Fox Innovation Lab, who previously released The Martian Vr Experience based on Scott's 2015 film.

A specific debut date is not yet known, but the immersive experience is expected to be released on multiple Vr formats, and it wouldn't be surprising to see it come out timed around the release of Alien: Covenant this spring.

Attendees of this week's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas should also keep an eye out...

Want to be stranded on Mars just like Matt Damon's Mark Watney? Now you can be, thanks to a Ridley Scott-produced Vr experience...

The official press bumf tells us that "The Martian Vr Experience is an interactive, immersive adventure with viewers participating from astronaut Mark Watney’s perspective, performing tasks that will facilitate his chances for survival.

"Users can fly onto the surface of Mars, steer at zero gravity through space, drive a rover and experience other key scenes from the hit film in a 360-degree virtual reality environment."

The great Mr Scott himself chimed in with this statement:

“I’ve always tried to approach filmmaking from the standpoint of creating an immersive experience.
