People who give low rating I think they are nearly 15, 16 year old so they don't understand the drama and writing. It's a good anime having possibilities to become top rating anime.
This is my first time i write a review besides having rated over a 1000 movies and series. Purely because its such a shame this serie wont get a second season. Beautifully made! Character development is of the charts aswel.
They end the show in a smart way so you wont feel longing for a second season bjt it just deserves it.
For a real isekai/anime lover as myself this was really a refreshing show. Not the standard nonsense.

First of all: I watched the twelve episodes in one go. How rare that has become. And yes, a second season would have been cool. It's incomprehensible why it wasn't produced.
In contrast to the usual Isekai anime, the protagonists of "Grimgar Ashes and Illusions" (not the original title, just the international title) wake up in a new medieval country without any special knowledge -- and are immediately asked to train as soldiers in order to earn money to survive. In practice, this means that they have to go orc hunting from day one, so to speak, to make a living -- and at the same time, in parallel, they have to train their special skills and knowledge in guilds that they have chosen themselves. And so they go into battles fairly inexperienced and naive -- and in the first few episodes an important character dies, whom they mourn for a long time.
The orcs are not stupid monsters, as is often the case in fantasy series... they play chess, sit around the fire together, eat and laugh together... and they develop their own strategies and plan raids. So they seem very human. The moral dimension of killing orcs is addressed in one of the later episodes.
The backgrounds of the protagonists remain a mystery, only that they come from a more modern time in which there are cell phones is obvious. But they cannot think more deeply about the fragments of their previous existence because they are in the precarious situation described and have to expect death every day -- and are forced to constantly develop and adapt to new things.
So much for the positive things.
What distinguishes the anime from really good anime: the characters are completely uninteresting. Just three weeks after watching it, I can no longer remember the main characters... so I am not mentioning them by name in this review. The Internet also seems to have largely forgotten the series.

First review and honestly idk what to write. But one thing is for sure! This anime needs a second season. I've watched so many anime and this one is for sure one of the most underrated anime I've ever watch.
It's so good, just a fans opinion. Second season reconsider!
The consent is so different of the other isekai anime as far as they didn't remember they were summoned to a new world or new their own personal life and had op skills. No grimgar is a fresh new start of the new life. Harsh world. Tragedy. Miss fortunes. Glory. Romance. It all ties together so well. How isn't this anime top #1!

On the surface similar in many ways to the others in the genre (hero wakes up in a new world etc..) the many divergences make it worth watching even if it never gets a follow up season.
-The Art is fantastic and blends together different styles in a way that at first is jarring but quickly becomes something I looked forward to. -Character development is key to the depth of this short series, and draws you in. -The "commitment" to the trials and adventures of the group was a pleasant surprise, with the series taking a surprising path early on.
The anime however isn't perfect and falls short in some areas, for example even as it does a great job developing one key character it fails to deliver on another. But all in all it's flaws are forgivable as was only a single season and the hope is this would be ironed out if the show returns.
