Film Review: Blood Bite (2020) by Yue Ang Wang
Image
In the early part of the 2010s, American studio The Asylum became both well-known and reviled for their ability to churn out a slew of incredibly cheesy, CGI-driven creature feature spectacles and ripoffs of mainstream properties, with titles ranging from “Sharknado,” “Transmorphers,” and “Zoombies” to name just a few of the company’s output. While the studio still exists in delivering cheesy ripoffs and mock-ups of blockbuster releases, very few are aware of the current output afforded by Chinese production studios filling the niche gap of cheesy creature features and genre output. Not the first of their releases but among the first to get exported to the West is Yue Ang Wang’s mash-up of “Deep Blue Sea” and “Jaws 3D” known by various titles but delivered in a dubbed version called “Blood Bite.”

Jungle Run Trailer Gives Disney's Jungle Cruise the Mockbuster Treatment It Deserves
Image
The jungle is not the best place to be lost in. And these two siblings are about to find out just why. In the latest 'MockBuster' ( this one based off of Disney's Jungle Cruise), we see a brother and sister on a search for their professor father, who goes missing in the jungle after discovering what appears to be a glowing rock in the shape of a triangle. We see him briefly in the Jungle Run trailer touching the strange rock before it lets out a high pitched sound. Then we see the camp being attacked by ants and other creatures.

Upon arriving at the abandoned camp, the missing father's children soon realize that the jungle has plans for them. Something dark and sinister is behind their dad's disappearance. As the search continues, they are attacked by jungle animals at a relentless rate. Giant snakes, dart frogs, piranha and of course spiders.

‘Aquarium of the Dead’ Review
Image
Stars: Vivica A. Fox, Eva Ceja, D.C. Douglas, Erica Duke, Anthony Jensen, Madeleine Falk, Robert Contrado, Jeffery Thomas Johnson, Brandon Lee W., Anna Telfer, Kim Nielsen, Ash Dadvand, Rishi Arya, Torrey B. Lawrence | Written by Marc Gottlieb, Michael Varrati | Directed by Glenn Miller

It had to happen didn’t it. First we had Zombeavers, then Zoombies and its sequel and now the zombie plague hits sea life with Aquarium of the Dead – the latest undead horror from The Asylum. Of course, given this an Asylum release, the timing couldn’t be more perfect – after all once you’ve seen an Army of the Dead you’re going to want to see an aquarium full of them too right?!

Glenn Miller, director of the aforementioned Zoombies films is back behind the camera for this fishy tale, which comes from a story by Michael Varrati (who also co-wrote the excellent Tales of Poe...

Killer Sea Animals Unleashed! New Trailer for 'Aquarium of the Dead'
Glenn Miller
"Something is up with the animals." The Asylum has just released an official trailer for one of their latest ridiculous B-movie horrors called Aquarium of the Dead, which is arriving direct-to-dvd (because that's the right release for this) in May this year. This is actually a sort-of-sequel to director Glenn Miller's other Asylum zombie animal movies Zoombies and Zoombies 2. Surprise – there is not much of a plot here: a scientific accident causes creatures to become zombies. But I'd rather enjoy this as a revenge tale for all the sea animals captured and thrown into aquariums finally getting back at the asshole humans who put them there. The cast includes Vivica A. Fox, D.C. Douglas, Erica Duke, Eva Ceja, Anthony Jensen, Anna Telfer, Jeffery Thomas Johnson, and Rishi Arya. This has zombie sharks, octopus, crabs, fish, and oh yes, a zombie walrus (finally vengeance for Tusk!) and starfish, too. Whatever you do,...

Monster Hunters Trailer Locks Tom Sizemore in a Fight Against Insane Alien Creatures
Image
The Asylum has released a new trailer for Monster Hunters just in time for the movie's arrival. We have been faced with a summer movie season that has been truly lacking in blockbuster action. While this fits into the mockbuster category, it may well be able to give movie lovers some of what they have been missing as it sees Tom Sizemore battling alien beasts in a fight for the very survival of Earth. As we can see from the trailer,

The trailer wastes no time in getting to the meat on these bones as it kicks off with a ship crash landing on Earth. We then find the government's Alien Defense Unit, which is tasked with containing any extraterrestrial threats that may come about as a result. But they are unsuccessful in that regard, which ensures that we are going to have a movie on our hands and not...

‘Zoombies 2′ Review
Stars: Erica Sturdefant, Jonathon Buckley, Jarrid Masse, Terra Strong, Jumarcus Mason, Caleb Thomas, Peter Stickles, Troy Castaneda, Adam Meredith, Ashley Alva, Jaime Nungaray, Himanshu Prasad | Written by Scotty Mullen | Directed by Glenn R. Miller

Who would have thought that The Asylum’s seemingly quick cash-in on the hype around Zombeavers, Zoombies, would actually get a sequel. Well it has… and it turns out its a damn good one too. Oh and it also turns out this “sequel” is anything but. In fact Zoombies 2 leads directly into the events of the first film!

Zoombies 2 follows a group of poachers who, in the midst of being arrested by a park ranger, end up in the middle of a zombie animal attack in a wildlife consevation preserve! However instead of arresting the poachers, the ranger ends up saving them and eventually forges an uneasy alliance wth the group in order to...

‘It Watches’ Review
Stars: Ivan Djurovic, Rick Irwin, Sanny van Heteren, James Duval | Written by Dave Parker, Ivan Djurovic | Directed by Dave Parker

I just finished watching It Watches, an independent horror/thriller movie which is coming VOD shortly, and I have got to say it has been a while since a movie completely pulled the rug out from under me like this film did! Honestly, I’ve seen enough movies to think I am always one step ahead of the film I’m watching, and for the most part I am, but I have to say this one outsmarted me. Which makes me very Very happy.

To director Dave Parker (The Hills Run Red) I tip my cap. First of all because I am getting tired of the found footage format. It feels like every horror movie these days has got to have that found footage/CCTV feel to it. However this...
