We are on the cusp of experiencing a Young Adult Renaissance.
The genre has been gaining momentum again and thriving via streamers like Netflix and Prime Video, from The Summer I Turned Pretty to Outer Banks.
But while those two series are signing off soon, there’s a spark of relief in learning that the underrated gem that is Cruel Summer is rising from the ashes two years after cancellation.

Salvaging this series, which was the most watched show on Freeform in its first year, is a delightful surprise and serves as a reminder that maybe the summer isn’t so cruel after all.
However, it’s the decisions that accompany the show’s revival that have me intrigued and excited.

Every so often, a TV series slips quietly into our lives and, before we know it, becomes part of our emotional landscape.
Resident Alien was one of those rare gifts.
It could make you laugh out loud one moment and sit in quiet reflection the next.
(James Dittiger/USA Network)
When the news broke that Resident Alien Season 4 would be the last, there wasn’t the kind of public uproar you might expect. In fact, many viewers stayed quiet during its run.
But in the wake of the finale, the floodgates opened. The comment sections filled with memories, gratitude, and the kind of raw emotion you only see when a show has truly mattered.

A group of 10 true crime obsessives are invited to the opening weekend of the newly renovated Cold River Motel, the site of a 30-year-old unsolved satanic mass murder. Garrett Hedlund is one of those guys who’s never really gotten his due in Hollywood. While he was the lead in films like Tron: Legacy and Pan, his starring roles in terrific indie flicks like On the Road, Burden and several others were underseen. Even still, he’s more than carved out a niche for himself as a tough-guy actor, with him being used to great effect in Triple Frontier, Mudbound and on the runaway smash hit Tulsa King, where he goes toe-to-toe with one of the most iconic actors ever, Sylvester Stallone. On the show, he plays one of the coolest characters, Mitch Keller, who’s in cahoots with Sly’s Dwight at a casino and moonlights as an aspiring country singer. He adds some levity to what’s become an intense show.
However, this week sees the release of a much darker role for Hedlund, with him headlining the revenge drama,...

Every frontier town in the cinematic imagination exists as a promise, usually one of wealth or reinvention. Yellowstone City in 1881 offers a more modest proposal: a place to be left alone. It is a town after the boom, a sanctuary of last resort populated by a disparate collection of souls who have found common ground in their shared lack of options.
The setting feels less like a celebration of manifest destiny and more like a quiet admission of its failures. Into this fragile stasis comes a spark of hope, that old Western cliché—a prospector strikes gold. Prosperity seems poised for a comeback. Then he is promptly shot dead.
So begins the film’s central conceit, a kind of Agatha Christie in a Stetson. The mechanism of justice, already rickety, requires a scapegoat. It finds one with almost comical speed in Cicero, a newly arrived former slave whose presence and...

Questlove has paid tribute to late funk pioneer Sly Stone. In an Instagram post, The Roots drummer and music historian reflected on the musician’s legacy and vast accomplishments, while also sharing his personal experience working on the original documentary Sly Lives! From the moment his music reached me in the early 1970s, it became a part of my soul,” Questlove wrote. “Sly was a giant — not just for his groundbreaking work with the Family Stone, but for the radical inclusivity and deep human truths he poured into every note. How does one of the best documentary filmmakers working today create one of the worst documentaries about the Manson murders you have ever seen? That is precisely what cinephiles will be asking after watching Chaos: The Manson Murders, The Thin Blue Line director Errol Morris’s newest film. Although the talent behind the camera had the potential to make this more than just another streaming true crime documentary, Chaos is frustratingly dull and adds little to the conversation about one of the most infamous tragedies in American history.
Chaos: The Manson Murders Review
Based on the nonfiction book Chaos: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties, this documentary seeks to explore the motives of the Manson Family murders of the 1960s. An investigative journalism approach to this story seems like a perfect fit for an Errol Morris production, but the pieces simply do not come together as well as they should.

After winning the Oscar for Best Documentary for his feature debut, Summer of Soul, Amir “Questlove” Thompson is returning to filmmaking with his sophomore feature, Sly Lives! (aka the Burden of Black Genius). While the concept behind his second film might seem like a more straightforward biography, Questlove brings such a refreshingly deep approach to his subject that the result is utterly fantastic.

Sly Lives! tells the story of Sly and the Family Stone — one of the most influential groups of all time in Black music history and music history as a whole. Questlove already got a taste of Sly and the Family Stone’s story in Summer of Soul, ending his first film with their performance at the Harlem Cultural Festival, but in this film, he dives deep into the group and its frontman’s story and legacy.

Upgrades in gaming are often intended to improve the existing items, increasing their stats and making them more powerful or useful, or providing players with a much better alternative, hence being an ‘upgrade’.
However, sometimes these changes can backfire, leading to more frustration than fun. From overly complicated versions of normal weapons to poorly balanced mechanics that just make these items worse, some upgrades just don’t hit the mark. Here’s a look at five such gaming upgrades that have left players confused.
5. The Fat Man Mirv Launcher The Fat Man in Fallout 4 can take out Behemoths in one shot. Image via Bethesda
The Fat Man in Fallout 4 is a well-known weapon that fires mini-nukes, providing massive explosions with a single shot, and being extremely powerful. The Mirv Launcher upgrade turns this already powerful weapon into a multi-warhead launcher. While it sounds impressive, this upgrade often causes more issues than it solves.
However, sometimes these changes can backfire, leading to more frustration than fun. From overly complicated versions of normal weapons to poorly balanced mechanics that just make these items worse, some upgrades just don’t hit the mark. Here’s a look at five such gaming upgrades that have left players confused.

Recasting happens all the time. Tragedy sometimes strikes, like in the case of Professor Albus Dumbledore in the "Harry Potter" series, where Michael Gambon assumed the role following the passing of the original performer, Richard Harris. Oftentimes, recasting is a result of scheduling conflicts, like when "May December" breakout star Charles Melton took over the role of Reggie Mantle on "Riverdale" due to original actor Ross Butler's scheduling conflicts with "13 Reasons Why." And sometimes a character is recast simply because they weren't right for the role, as was famously the case with Eric Stoltz, who was replaced by Michael J. Fox after six weeks of shooting "Back to the Future."
In all of these instances, fans were well aware of the recastings as they happened, but once a person has been playing a role long enough, audiences sometimes forget they were ever recast in the first place. This...

Attorney-turned-selling novelist Scott Turow made the cover of Time magazine the summer of 1990 describing him as the “Bard of the Litigious Age.” And 34 years later, the 75-year-old still is. Over the past four decades, Turow has written 13 works of fiction which have been translated into 40 languages and have sold more than 30 million copies. Several have been transformed into miniseries and TV movies.
In fact, Hollywood filmmakers were salivating in 1987 for the rights to Turow’s first novel, “Presumed Innocent,” a clever, sexy murder mystery with twists and turns that would baffle even Columbo, about a prosecutor accused of murdering the attractive colleague with whom he had been romantically involved “It began a sort of Hollywood frenzy,” Turow told me in a 1992 L.A. Times interview. “It was one weekend’s madness.” And for good reason, the novel spent 44 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list and another five months on the paperback charts.

James Gunn's Superman reboot includes Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell as Jonathan and Martha Kent, guiding Superman on Earth. The new cast aims to redefine Superman's world, offering fresh faces to iconic characters like Lois Lane and Lex Luthor. With James Gunn's trend of spotlighting underappreciated comic book characters, Superman promises a new take on classic heroes.
No Superman story is complete without Jonathan and Martha Kent, and James Gunn has just cast his version of the characters. Ma and Pa Kent are an essential part of Superman's origin story, teaching the Kryptonian how to adapt to life on Earth and control his powers. The pair are single-handedly responsible for Superman growing up with good moral values and not completely obliterating humanity. It appears that James Gunn has finally put faces to the beloved characters.

The star with the gorgeous calypso voice was also a naturally passionate actor who appeared in heists, colonial confrontations – and even the last love triangle on Earth
In the middle of the 20th century, Harry Belafonte was at the dizzying high point of his stunning multi-hyphenate celebrity: this handsome, athletic, Caribbean-American star with a gorgeous calypso singing voice was at the top of his game in music, movies and politics. He was the million-selling artist whose easy and sensuous musical stylings and lighter-skinned image made him acceptable to white audiences. But this didn’t stop him having a fierce screen presence and an even fiercer commitment to civil rights. He was the friend and comrade of Paul Robeson and Martin Luther King Jr – and his crossover success, incidentally, never stopped him being subject to the ugliest kind of bigotry from racists who saw his fame as a kind of infiltration.

Quick Links The Hero’s Burden Drop Location In Destiny 2 The Hero’s Burden’s PvE & PvP God Rolls In Destiny 2
Destiny 2’s The Hero’s Burden Smg is considered one of the best weapons in the category, for both PvE and PvP activities – especially when aligned with the best perks (God Roll). SMGs have long been a great choice for any type of activity in Bungie’s space shooter, but have been even better over the past few seasons. Season of Defiance’s addition of The Immortal Smg in Destiny 2, for instance, has seen a complete change to PvP builds.
While getting a God Roll of The Immortal Smg is quite difficult, it is fairly easy to obtain a good set of perks on Destiny 2’s The Hero’s Burden, seeing it should be a less demanding weapon to acquire multiple times. With God Rolls, players can easily melt...

Eliza runs through the rain as voices yell in the background. It’s disorienting, like some kind of a nightmare, and that’s what it is, a nightmare.
