“House of the Dragon,” HBO’s upcoming prequel to “Game of Thrones,” has acquired one of its leading men. Paddy Considine, who starred in HBO’s “The Outsider” and “The Third Day,” will portray King Viserys Targaryen in the upcoming series.
HBO’s description for Considine’s character reads:
Viserys was chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy, but as we’ve learned from “Game of Thrones,” good men do not necessarily make for great kings.
“House of the Dragon” was announced by HBO in November 2019. The 10-episode prequel series is co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, who executive produce alongside Miguel Sapochnik, Vince Gerardis, and Sara Lee Hess. Sapochnik will direct the pilot and a handful of other episodes.

The “Game of Thrones” prequel series “House of the Dragon” at HBO has found its first cast member — English actor Paddy Considine.

There are two titles for this short experimental film of almost three minutes. “Journeyman” refers to the song that is underlayed to the video and “Overdosed Nightmare”, which is the title of a feature film Khavn produced in 2008, and describes the experience the viewer has with the video quite precisely.
For his music video, Khavn has combined scenes and fragments from several of his short films. Recognizable, for example, are scenes from “Pushcart Family” in which a man pulls his sales cart through the busy streets or from “Christmas Alms” in which children ask for alms. In between, you see black and white pictures of a Jesus or a hanged man. A landscape with a satellite is recognizable and a man with long hair sits somewhere at a bar and talks to the beer bottle standing in front of him.
The video resembles a colorful kaleidoscope, the pictures follow each other in a fast rhythm.

On the face of it, “Journeyman” seems a misnomer of a title for a film about a championship boxer who faces the most grueling challenge of his life after defending his world title at the denouement of his career. A scrappy, up-from-nothing underdog drama it is not. As Paddy Considine’s sophomore directorial effort progresses, however, the title takes on a more literal application: This is very much a film about, wait for it, a man on a journey.
If that sounds well-meaningly corny, well, so to an extent is “Journeyman.” Not close to the stark, bruising experience of Considine’s debut “Tyrannosaur,” this story of a fighter battling the extreme, personality-altering effects of concussion after his final turn in the ring is a film of somewhat soapier suffering, stirring but not always credible in its examination of a marriage and a masculine identity both shattered by a misplaced strike.

While he’s perhaps most notable on screen in films such as The World’s End and Bourne Ultimatum, Paddy Considine wrote and directed his debut feature film Tyrannosaur back in 2011. Now, he’s returned to the director’s chair for Journeyman, which follows Matty Burton (played by Considine) a boxer who suffers a head injury which affects his life far beyond the ring.
Thanks to Empire, a first trailer is now available, which effectively showcases Considine’s performance, as well as a film which looks both heart-wrenching and hopefully balanced by humanity. See the trailer below, along with a still and synopsis for the film that also stars Jodie Whittaker.
Boxer Matty Burton suffers a serious head injury during a fight. It is about the impact this has on his marriage, his life and and his family.
Journeyman will hit theaters in the U.K. on February 16th.

Studiocanal UK has unveiled the first UK trailer for Journeyman, the new film written & directed by English actor Paddy Considine (he last directed the acclaimed Tyrannosaur in 2011). The cast includes Jodie Whittaker as his wife, along with Paul Popplewell, Tony Pitts, and Anthony Welsh and others. This premiered at the London Film Festival, where I first saw it and wrote a glowing review of the film. As you can see with this trailer, it's not so much about boxing as it is about the struggle of mental illness. See below. Paddy Considine has been a familiar face in front of the camera for nearly two decades but in 2011, Considine moved behind the camera to direct Peter Mullan in one of his best roles: Tyrannosaur in which he stars as a violent man given a second chance. This is not a boxing film. Though it is about a boxer, and involves a major boxing match, it is not a boxing film. Journeyman, the latest feature written and directed by English actor Paddy Considine, is actually a heartwrenching drama about the struggle of those with mental disabilities. Considine plays every role - he writes, directs, and stars in this film as Matty Burton, a famed boxer who decides to go for one last match with a wise-mouth up-and-comer. This film is really not about how the match turns out, that doesn't really even matter, and while we do get to watch the match, it is what comes after that matters. That's what this film is actually about, and it is an impressive, emotional journey through one man's struggle to stay himself. Considine's Journeyman sets up the story by first giving us time to get to know Matty, who...

After some lackluster boxing moves coming out of the U.S. the last few years, save Creed, it’s time for the U.K. to enter the ring. Before Paddy Considine’s Journeyman later this year, the first trailer has arrived for Jawbone, the new sports drama that features across the pond favorites Ian McShane, Ray Winstone, and Michael Smiley with Johnny Harris, who also penned the script.
Helmed by Thomas Q. Napper in his directorial debut (though he’s done second unit work on pictures like Atonement, Into the Woods, and the upcoming Beauty and the Beast), Jawbone follows Jimmy (Harris), a former youth boxer who returns to his original gym to train once again after hitting rock bottom. What’s unclear is whether Jimmy is back to fight with a purpose, or just because he wants to get punched.

Adam Shankman (Hairspray) has signed up to direct Kate Beckinsale in the film adaptation of Ashley Prentice Norton’s novel The Chocolate Money.

Completing the one-two punch of hard-hitting boxing dramas following last year’s Southpaw, The Weinstein Company has premiered our first look at Hands of Stone, thrusting Edgar Ramirez between the ropes and into the ring as Panamanian boxer, Roberto Durån.
Attracting legions of adoring fans throughout his glittering career, the Wbc welterweight champ hopped from success story to success story, even toppling Sugar Ray Leonard (singer-songwriter Usher Raymond) before ultimatley hanging up his gloves in 2002 at the age of 50.
Written and directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz, Hands of Stone boasts an ace in the hole in Robert De Niro, who is no stranger to the ring after headlining Martin Scorsese’s defining Raging Bull all those years ago. He’ll be joined on the casting docket by Ana de Armas, Ellen Barkin and John Turturro.
Shooting for a late summer release, Jakubowicz’s sports pic is one of the many boxing dramas currently in the works,...

Cornerstone Films announced this week that multi-talented writer, director, and actor Paddy Considine has found his next filmmaking gig, the boxing drama “Journeyman.” Considine directed the excellent and underrated BAFTA-Award winning “Tyrannosaur,” and his second feature continues his collaboration with producing partner Diarmid Scrimshaw of Inflammable Films. Currently in pre-production and shooting in early March, Considine wrote the screenplay, will direct it and will also star. Jodie Whittaker (“One Day”), Faraz Ayub (“Honor”), Tony Pitts (“War Horse”) and Paul Popplewell (“’71”) will form the main members of the supporting cast. Here’s the official synopsis: Journeyman is a powerful and beautiful story about loss and, ultimately, triumph. It's about our identity, and how in life we sometimes have to dig deep into our soul to discover who we really are. Matty Burton is the middleweight boxing champion of the world. Now, coming towards the end of his career,...

Coming off her well-deserved Oscar nomination for 45 Years, Charlotte Rampling has found a new project. Screen Daily reports that she’ll be leading an adaptation of Jane Austen‘s Sanditon, the first time it will come to the screen. Directed by Jim O’Hanlon and scripted by Simon Reade, it follows a summer at a sea bathing resort in which society can be seen at play. Production is set to kick off this summer for a likely 2017.
We’ve been patiently waiting for Paddy Considine (Hot Fuzz, Macbeth) to follow up his impressive directorial debut Tyrannosaur with another feature and now it looks like he’s finally settled on one. THR reports he’ll direct and write Journeyman, a boxing drama starring himself as a world middleweight boxing champion who takes on one last fight and succumbs to a coma, but is then awakened and must deal with the repercussions.
