Cheesy, generic and uninteresting sci-fi...

Right, well already from the movie's poster presentation alone, I figured this was going to be one of those pseudo-low budget movies that will not be cheesy enough to be enjoyable, but also not bad enough to be laughable.

Sure, this was exactly that. And while writers Brandon Slagle and Robert Thompson did try to come up with something interesting, it just all crashed down when you realize that this is essentially just a cash-in on the 1995 movie "Species", with with minor tweaks, a lesser budget and not as big acting talents on the casting list.

Was this enjoyable? Well, no, not really. Unless, perhaps, if you turn out to be a huge sci-fi nerd. I am not, so I didn't really find much enjoyment in this movie, which felt like a strange mash-up on an 1990s action movie and "Species". A combination that might sound interesting in theory, but at the hands of director Brandon Slagle, not so much.

The movie brandish Vivica A. Fox and Daniel Baldwin on the cover. They are in the movie, certainly, but as mere supporting performers. So, don't get suckered in by these two performers being on the cast list.

The special effects in "Crossbreed" were atrocious, given the fact that this movie is made in 2019. The creature design was abysmal to look at, and it was so painstakingly just a woman with horribly bad make-up and special effects added to her body. It looked like they just plastered on some soggy cardboard at times.

I managed to endure the movie to the end. Why? Well, because I wanted to finish it, and a movie has to be really, really bad before I end up turning it off. "Crossbreed" is one of those sci-fi movies that you never heard about and happen to stumble upon by random, questionable luck. Then finding yourself wasting an hour and thirty minutes, give or take, of your life on watching it. I sat through it to the end, but can honestly say that I will never be venturing back to watch it once more.

At least this movie gave some jobs to struggling actors!

I'm going out on a limb and giving this 4 stars. The story wasn't terrible, the acting was bad, but that happens a lot with nooby actors. I've seen a lot worse, so I at least appreciate the work everyone did, even if it turned out as poor as this is. There were some decent scenes that keep my interest, but not many.

It was just really funny how one guy could sit right in the line of fire, and 5 guys with guns were plastering the wall (and doing NO damage!) right next to him.....(While he cut a few of them down). Or the guy chopping up someone, and NO blood anywhere, even on the machete! hahahah!

Aside from that, if you can stomach low budget, silly scifi movies with really poor fight scenes and dumb lines, go for it!

I watched a cheesy dumb film to enjoy, and that's what I got.

I wanted some cheesy dumb fun, and that's exactly what I got. Some of the lines where incredibly cheesy, but there was some pretty great ones too.

The budget is not there compared to bigger films, and it's not bringing anything new. But if you want something that's pretty entertaining, with decent enough actors then it gets the job done. It had some pretty fun touches too. It really wasn't bad for what it was.

This needs negative stars!

3 mins in... oh dear, worse than the trailer so far! 7:30 Acting: none yet... 10:00: I think they are going for the cliché world record! 16:00 Naked hooker robot. ✔ 20:00 "Old comrades meet and bond" ✔ 23:04 "This is a simple mission" ✔ 24:00 "Clean and by the book!" ✔ 26:00 "Hesitation can get you killed!" ✔ 29:00 "This is not what we signed up for!" ✔ 35:00 Argh! I can't take it no more! That trailer is the best of this...dreck! If you can believe the inside of a ship's engine room is a space ship, and you can't tell good from bad acting, plus you've never seen a science fiction or action movie, this might be for you.

I really wanted to like this.....but

So hard being a SCI FI fan, looking for that hidden gem of a movie...THIS IS NOT IT...I wanted to like this, I really did. I absolutely love everything science fiction. Movies like this, I dont even read the reviews... I look at the title..look at the cover art.. get excited this may be that gem waiting for me to find, press play and hope for the best... Honestly the first few minutes were promising, there were some decent, not amazing but decent effects plus the fact that Daniel Baldwin and Vivica A fox, although not amazing actors but aren't nobodies either, gave me some hope... But unfortunately this movie was really bad. I can do with the terrible acting and dialogue but there has to be at least some sort of decent story and pacing to make me want to stick it out and thats exactly what I just could not do--- Stick this one out----. I Found myself fast-forwarding constantly and just overall being BORED. I really wanted to like this and recommended it but I just cant... pass on this one guys..

This is not what I signed up for.

Simply embarrassing. Couldn't watch more than 15 min altogether. Too painfully bad. Awful script, amateurish acting, childish artwork...

Appalling

Not even worth watching the trailer! Baldwin looks really unwell in this and perhaps should retire rather than sink any further!

Just don't

This is so badly written, a Berkeley student could have done it.

The dialog is extremely bad and unnatural and the acting even worse, seemingly just so they could shoehorn a ridiculously dressed "strong sassy black woman" stereotype into the role of "female black president" (as opposed to President).

If you enjoy Sci-Fi, pick another film

They love Timecop

Kind of wacky science fiction action film that takes us back to the heyday of video stores. You know, those weird straight to vhs films you used to see along the aisle and were probably too young to rent. I loved those. They had cussing, nudity, guns, and musclebound bozos you were grew to love.

While this is not perfect by any means it definitely took me back to my preteen days sneaking into the video store hoping they'd rent to me. Hey, I had fun with it.

My Review Of "Crossbreed"

"Crossbreed" is a pretty straightforward story that pits space marines against a alien bio weapon. It is simple but at moments it strong in representation and aesthetics. Reminiscent of mid-nineties space fare like "Jason X" and Syfy stuff back when it was spelled correctly. Vivica A. Fox is great in her limited role as Commander-in-Chief, Madame President. The marines are stereotypical, but tolerable.

Special effects are a mixed bag of cheap CGI and slightly better game-play level. Still it works and gives an entertaining affectation to the action sequences. The creature design and limited practical effects give "Crossbreed" it's real selling points. Plus add in some quality cinematography and the film is worth the watch. Just remember to go in with b-movie expectations.

What in the Bad Movie Holy Hell????

The trailer on Hulu made this movie look a lot better and it made the movie look like it was different story. Because of the Hulu trailer, I have been waiting for this movie to be available. Well I watched it and got so bored that I fell asleep during the movie. I am a fan of bad movies but this was Bruno Bad.

Through it all, I clung to one thing. Hope.

I clung to hope. Like a life preserver in the ocean. Like a rope on the side of a cliff. Like a promise, in a world filled with doubt. And I tried. God knows I tried. But I just couldn't do it. I couldn't finish watching this movie.

Can't believe I stuck with it the entire running time

This movie is supposed to be reminiscent of the 70's and 80's, but it fails in every cinematic way possible. The characters have no character. The dialog and acting is terrible and wooden. Also, too much profanity. The leading stars barely in the film. Maybe 5 mins total at best.

Had to come back after watching this Again, and I gotta tell ya, this was a DAMN well made flick! The effects are REALLY Good for the Budget, I mean REAL GOOD for the Budget! They had a Brainiac for an effects guy cause he squeezed EVERYTHING he could out of the money they had, and it Shows!

Fast paced cartoonish fun like the sci-fi/action movies of the early 1990s.

Crossbreed is the stuff of weekend watching, USA Network/TBS SuperStation legend; those films you'd catch again and again as a kid on cable TV and watch every time. A simple set up leads to an extremely fun and ambitious sci-fi ride showcasing some very impressive world building. There's so much enjoyment to be had with the macho laden comradery among the 5 mercenaries hunting the alien: a sleek creature design made frightening by the mesmerizing, unbreakable gaze of Devanny Pinn who shines in the role. Crossbreed is fast paced cartoonish fun like the sci-fi/action movies of the early 1990s that warrants a sequel or two.

An original idea in Hollywood!

An outside the box, futuristic film that actually has great ideas for the real world to consider. Wonderful make-up & costumes along with good humor make this film truly enjoyable from start to finish! Open your mind & enjoy the ride!
