An effective way to get any viewer invested in an anime (or series) is to end an episode on a shocking note. While leaving things unresolved might turn away viewers if it happens every episode, a cliffhanger can be an incredibly effective way for keep audiences attention when used the right way. Anime like Attack on Titan and Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World manage to make cliffhangers a part of their DNA, turning abrupt endings into a hook that'll guarantee you waste no time starting the immediate next episode.

After successfully dethroning Jujutsu Kaisen in terms of ratings and reviews, it might pose a challenge to One Piece. The upcoming Jeju Arc is a perfect example of that which would have critics biting their tongue. And if the arc is done brilliantly, the series will surpass Oda’s masterpiece.
Solo Leveling dethrones Jujutsu Kaisen as 3rd highest-rated anime
Solo Leveling is turning heads in terms of its growing popularity and reception. The second season is outdoing the first one in both animation as well as visuals.

Following a series of heavily publicized scandals, Fuji Television Network President Koichi Minato has stepped down to allow Dragon Ball Z producer Kenji Shimizu to take over as the new Fuji TV President.
Fuji TV has been dogged by more than one scandal in the last few months, the most notable of which has been that involving a sexual assault linked to the former leader of Smap, a popular Japanese boy band. Masahiro Nakai has been at the center of the scandal due to his alleged assault of a woman at a 2023 dinner party, which was allegedly planned by Fuji TV staff. The allegations were reported in magazines in December and have led to numerous claims of cover-ups and other misdealings within Fuji TV, including widespread complaints regarding the lack of explanation of the network's handling of the situation, as reported by Japanese news website Oricon.

As one of the finest time-travel genre series, Erased perfectly captures suspense and mystery. Written by Kei Sanbe, it stands as one of the most underappreciated anime in terms of its elements.
From tragedy to loss, the series perfectly encapsulates these elements through the events. The high-rated series sets itself apart in terms of its nostalgia and stellar visuals. This, however, was far from the mangaka’s original plan.
Satoru Fujinuma | Credit: A-1 Pictures
From conception to development, Sanbe revealed the drastic changes that the story underwent. And while change is an integral part of serialization, it was divorced from the author’s set plans.
Interestingly, the series brings out the vivacity and nostalgia of a lost time. Through landscape and memory, both Sanbe and Ito replicated the good old 80s through this time-loop series.

The leading female voice actors of My Hero Academia reflect on the shocking climax between their respective characters in the latest anime episode. The momentous bout between Ochaco Uraraka and Himiko Toga, adapted from the manga by Kohei Horikoshi, comes to an emotionally explosive end.
Japanese news and entertainment website Oricon interviewed Ayane Sakura and Misato Fukuen, the Japanese voice actors of Ochaco and Toga on My Hero Academia. This interview coincides with the release of My Hero Academia Season 7, Episode 20 (Episode 158 overall), which concludes the emotional confrontation between the two characters. It's a pivotal moment in the series, as Ochaco and Toga are often treated as parallels, with their love for Izuku "Deku" Midoriya being their most obvious connection. However, their contrasting alliance with good and evil has prevented them from forming a genuine bond -- at least, before this final battle.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is easily one of the best anime ever created, capturing a perfect blend of action, moral complexity, and emotional moments. It has rich worldbuilding, power dynamics, and an amazingly paced plot that have drawn in fans for years. The foundation of the story is set around two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who work to reclaim their bodies after the disastrous results of attempting human transmutation in an attempt to resurrect their mother. The anime balances humor with a deeper exploration of the human condition, making it a multi-layered narrative that adds to its success.
For fans of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, finding other anime that deliver the same kind of satisfaction can be difficult. It is not solely about intense battles and interesting abilities, but about finding a series that balances those elements with meaningful storytelling and characters that are complex and fully fleshed out. The much-awaited finale of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga series created raging debates among its fans as it could not reach up to its sky-high expectations. Nevertheless, if one is comparing it to overall anime endings, this finale of Jujutsu Kaisen would not be the worst ending, to be honest.
Anime often has the reputation of not bringing cool ideas to a satisfying ending. Many classic series have disappointed viewers in their final acts, leaving everyone frustrated and confused. From uneventful storylines to abrupt and unresolved conclusions, the list of disappointing anime endings is truly staggering.

This article discusses episode 1-6 of Delico's Nursery and will contain spoilers. The anime is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
The opening theme song of every anime is always accompanied by an animated sequence that contains a collection of aesthetically pleasing visuals related to the plot. Many of these visuals often hold a deeper meaning that is obvious to viewers, but some anime intros are packed with more obscure details and symbolism that almost give the story away if explored thoroughly. Shining examples of this are the intros for Erased (Boku dake ga Inai Machi), which was released in January 2016, and the more recent Delico's Nursery.
The intro of Act 1 of Delicos Nursery is filled with numerous imageries and symbolic visuals that sync up with the rhythm of Mika Nakashimas "Unfair," and they unveil a myriad of things about the tale that is unfolding with every episode. The anime itself...

Anime romances are typically reserved for sparkly, love-filled dramas or comedies that focus on the main couple. However, plenty of other anime have romances that are just as compelling as any pairing from a romance anime. The best ships from non-romance anime are sometimes even more touching because of all the other things the couple goes through while they work through their feelings for each other.
Ships from non-romance anime can have a lot to contend with, but the couple remains strong at the end of the day. Even if the couples dont get together until the end, their feelings for one another are palpable. Fans cheer them on from the beginning - reveling in the blossoming romances before them. These ships are some of the best because they shine without the rosy backdrops of shojo or romance anime to elevate their emotions.

Musicals and anime utilize melodrama through song to express strong emotions, setting them apart. Anime musicals are gaining popularity in Japan but have been largely absent in America. Attack on Titan: The Musical will be the first anime stage adaptation in an American theater this October.
While the two mediums are not often associated in peoples minds, anime and musical theater actually have a number of similarities. For example, musicals such as Moulin Rouge, Newsies and a more recent example, The Notebook, are known for their melodrama, expressed through song. On the other hand, animes depictions of strong emotions in series such as Erased and Fullmetal Alchemist are often quite theatrical, setting them apart from other media.
While America has access to most series released in Japan, there is one main source of entertainment that most Western fans are not aware of: anime musicals. Currently, only one anime musical has made its way to America.

Erased predicted Aaron Eckhart's action star transformation, showcasing his skills as a retired CIA agent with a knack for hand-to-hand combat. Chief of Station feels like an Erased sequel, with Eckhart playing another CIA agent investigating his wife's death and unraveling a conspiracy. Eckhart continues his action run with upcoming films like Classified and potentially The Bricklayer 2, cementing his status in the genre.
Aaron Eckhart is on a run of action movies like The Bricklayer, but this unlikely career pivot was predicted by a forgotten thriller from 2012. Eckhart is an actor who first came to people's attention for dark dramas like In the Company of Men, before moving into more mainstream fare during the 2000s, such as goofy blockbuster The Core. He's a performer who has tackled just about every genre by this point, and one who tends to steal scenes no matter who he is working alongside.

Have you ever heard a song in a movie or TV show that’s so good that it inspires your muses? I’m one of those people who listens to music when she writes, and many of those songs come from a movie or TV show that slips in a tune that I have to listen to on repeat. A recent gem on the list is from the second season of Invincible from singer-songwriter d4vd. “Feel It” is peak writing fuel for my muses, so I was thrilled to learn that d4vd is also someone who’s inspired by the media around him. “I wrote songs like ‘Here With Me’ after watching the Disney movie Up ,” he said in our interview, and boy, does that add a Lot of context to that song. d4vd is also a huge anime fan, as seen when watching his videos. The opening theme for an anime is almost as important as the anime series itself. The opening sets the tone, gives the feel, and introduces the viewers to what they are getting into. While there have been many grand anime openings over the years, some are more memorable than others.
If an anime is quite long, the series will likely have more than one opening. Fans might have their personal favorites among those, but most fans agree that a particular opening will hit harder than others. Some of the best anime opening themes of all time include tracks from childhood favorite anime like Pokémon to more recent hits, like My Hero Academia.

The Erased anime and manga had similar conclusions but differed in significant ways, leading to controversy among fans of the source material. The anime ending rushed the storyline compared to the manga, resulting in less focus on character development and a shorter confrontation between Satoru and Yashiro. The anime took liberties with the source material due to the manga still being in publication, creating its own conclusion that didn't satisfy some fans and leading to comparisons with the live-action adaptation.
Created by Kei Sanbe, Erased is a beloved manga that received an anime adaptation while it was still in publication. Like a lot of anime that air simultaneously to the source material, the endings don't match, because the studio couldn't predict what Sanbe had in mind for the conclusion. That made Erased's conclusion controversial.

Anime genres are diverse and can be confusing, but understanding the intended audience helps set expectations. Shonen targets young boys, Shojo targets young girls, Seinen targets young adult men, Josei targets young adult women, and Kodomuke targets children. Action, adventure, and fantasy are popular genres in anime, often merged together in series like Attack on Titan and Demon Slayer. Subgenres like Mecha, Isekai, and Superhero also thrive within this genre. There are relaxed and informative genres in anime, such as slice-of-life and iyashikei. Informative subgenres can focus on music, culinary, or sports. Comedy is also a prevalent genre that entertains lightheartedly.
Long-time anime fans tend to know the ins and outs of the various genres and subgenres. Yet, at the same time, no matter how long you've been around, it can still get convoluted and complex to navigate for the fandom, let alone those new to it. This is further...

Time-reversal anime explore the desire to change or relive past experiences, combining nostalgia with the ability to see the outcome of changes in the future. While anime is a medium that may appeal to some people more than others, there are actually a fair amount of series that are capable of reaching those who wouldn't typcally care for it. Anime is a style that some people just can't get into because of how exaggerated the expressions, art, and stories can be.

Live-action adaptations of anime and manga have long been frowned upon by audiences, mainly due to the fact that, despite staying faithful to the source material, the productions frequently face issues such as casting and story intricacy. For instance, live-action movies and TV shows like Dragon Ball Evolution, Death Note, Cowboy Bebop, and Attack on Titan have been absolute disasters, proving the point time and again.
However, Netflix's One Piece finally broke the curse of live-action anime adaptations, which we never thought would happen, especially given One Piece's awfully long and ever-expanding story. Having said that, there have been other decent live-action versions, such as Gintama, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, Erased, Rurouni Kenshin, and Your Lie in April, but none of them have had the same impact as One Piece. So, here is how One Piece finally turned the tide of Netflix's disaster wave after six long years.

Some of the best things come in small packages. One great thing about anime is that practically any story can be told. Many of the best anime tales are spun in less than one hundred episodes. These anime don’t require filler or embellishment because they are concisely great on their own.

The show is an adaptation of the popular manga Burn the House Down (Mitarai-ke Enjō Suru), which ran in Japan from 2017 to 2021. Kodansha USA Publishing began releasing the manga in English in June 2022.

After being stuck in post-production limbo for over five years, the action-comedy film Hidden Strike is set to premiere in 2023. The film stars Jackie Chan, an actor with over one-hundred-fifty film appearances and four decades of martial arts experience, and John Cena, a sixteen-time WWE world wrestling champion-turned-actor. The two action heroes are thrust together on a mission in Baghdad, where they must escort innocent civilians to safety.
During production, Hidden Strike had several titles--Project X-traction, Project X, Ex-Baghdad, Snafu, and The Furious Sandstorm. The start-stop timeline of production and distribution had little to do with Covid-19 and everything to do with the changing landscape surrounding Chinese cinema and its role in international box office success.
China plays a significant role in the viewership and commercial success of international films, so when Chinese cinema faces changes, Hollywood feels them. However, Hidden Strike is, as the director says, a...

Bucchigiri?!, the newly-announced anime TV series from studio Mappa, is accused of being a colorful clone of Tokyo Revengers.
According to Anime Senpai, fans had mixed reactions to Mappa announcing Bucchigiri?! at the Mappa Stage 2023 event. Admittedly, the lack of updates on Chainsaw Man, One-Punch Man and Yuri!!! On Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence played a part in the sour reactions. However, fans of Ken Wakui's Tokyo Revengers have noticed an eerie resemblance between their favorite anime series and the one Mappa just announced.

Topher Grace, who shot to fame playing Eric Forman in the popular sitcom That ‘70s Show, has jokingly teased another spinoff to come. While That ‘70s Show wrapped up after eight seasons in 2006, Grace later returned to reprise his role in the first episode of the new spinoff series That ‘90s Show. Set 15 years after the events of the original series, That ‘90s Show follows Eric Forman's and Donna Pinciotti’s teenage daughter Leia Forman (Callie Haverda) as she spends the summer of 1995 with her grandparents, Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp). The new show has also seen several other actors from the original series return, including Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, Wilmer Valderrama, Mila Kunis, Don Stark and Tommy Chong.
Recently, Netflix announced That ‘90s Show would be getting a season 2 renewal, just weeks after the spinoff first premiered on January 19. When Grace discovered the news, however, he...

(Welcome to Ani-time Ani-where, a regular column dedicated to helping the uninitiated understand and appreciate the world of anime.)Streaming has been a true blessing for anime fans. It has made brought previously inaccessible shows to the masses and also allowed for some cool experiments, with studios like Wit and Trigger, as well as auteurs like Masaaki Yuasa to give us deeply weird (and hyper-violent) anime like "Devilman Crybaby" and "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners." On the other hand, in an era where every new anime is instantly available through simulcast, it is rather baffling to see streaming jail become a thing.
Shows that would otherwise be available within hours of their initial broadcast are now held up for months on end, killing all hype. Though Netflix is slightly getter better, Hulu and Disney+ are licensing anime and withholding any sort of information about when they plan to release them, before they just...
