Witless has been the best BBC comedy of the past 5 years - superlative writing, acting and characterization, grounded in a strong sense of place. It's been a joy to follow, and never jumped the shark - it was always ambitious and kept growing and changing, expanding the canvas each series. I will genuinely miss Rhona and Leanne. The finale wrapped everything up in a clever, warm and incredibly satisfying way; I was in tears of happiness by the final scene. I've rarely seen a straightforward crime/detective series wrapped up with such intelligent writing and attention to character, let alone a comic one. Thanks in no small part to this outstanding finale, the series stands up tremendously as a whole - a thrilling, funny, moving televisual comic novel told that tells a complete story from start to finish. The conclusion left me elated, wistful, contemplative and feeling like I've "witnessed" something special. Thanks to the writers and cast for their stellar work. Hope there'll be a DVD!
As with every show from the UK, the humor and pace here are a bit different than what I'm used to from American shows, but it got me hooked from episode one. It's quirky, it's different, and it's also funny. It doesn't beat around the bush much, sometimes the humor gets dark, but if you enjoy UK comedies, this should be right up your alley.
I'd say the show isn't for everyone, but I myself sure do enjoy it and I'll be pouting at how short the season is going to be (so short ;<).
The plot progresses at a fast pace and I'm glad they didn't go with some problem-of-the-week structure. Things change episode to episode and I sure didn't expect that from a comedy. But I approve wholeheartedly!

This is one of the best light comedies for many a year - it is brilliantly acted, cleverly directed and even the credits are well designed. It's not edgy but who cares - it's out-and-out fun
I thought I'd test the water by watching the first episode and after doing so, I was itching for the next. As it goes on it gets better. The girls are funny, good actresses and believable. The other characters are also very good. No dodgy acting from any of them and no boring moments throughout the series. The wife and I were surprised that it's only a five part series as the fifth episode didn't really close as one would have thought. The show is quite dark and yet is very funny. It is quite shocking in places where you just don't expect things to happen, but then they do! Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the second series, and it's a box set I'll definitely be adding to my collection.
Some of the scenes are so awkward, normally when Kerry is involved it just hits my cringe buttons. The preciseness of Zoe is so sharp. Each episode is packed with so many different scenes. The super acting, facial expressions and identifiable characters draw you in. It manages to stay light even in scenes of murder, there is never a feeling of darkness, but a slightly quirky realism. I missed the starts with John Inverdale, I wish he could have been in more, that beard had me howling. Jackie, made the first series for me, well cast, acted, in all a superb comedy.Possibly a slow burner from the point of recognition and publicity as few people seems to have heard of it despite it being so good. Great one from the BBC.
