Sony had been planning to give director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen a theatrical release on August 25th of 2023, but in May of last year they decided to delay the release an entire year, pushing They Listen to August 30, 2024. By the time that date rolled around, the movie had been given the new title Afraid (or AfrAId)… and neither the new title nor the new release date worked out for the movie at the box office, because it only ended up making $9 million at the global box office. Just two weeks after its theatrical release, Afraid has now been given a digital release and is available for rent on Amazon’s Prime Video for $9.99. It can also be purchased for the price of $14.99.
Afraid‘s physical media release will follow on November 5th, when it comes to Blu-ray and DVD with the following extras: – 5 Deleted & Extended Scenes including...

Sony had been planning to give director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen a theatrical release on August 25th of 2023, but in May of last year they decided to delay the release an entire year, pushing They Listen to August 30, 2024. With that date swiftly approaching, we knew the marketing for the film had to start any time now… and as it turns out, it has started today. They Listen has been retitled Afraid, and a trailer for the film can be seen in the embed above.
Afraid is coming to us from Sony, Blumhouse, and Depth of Field. Weitz is producing the film with Jason Blum and Andrew Miano. Bea Sequeira, Dan Balgoyen, Britta Rowings, and Paul Davis serve as executive producers. Filming took place in Los Angeles back in December of 2022.
Along the with release of the trailer comes, finally, some information on what this movie is actually about.

Sony had been planning to give director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen a theatrical release on August 25th of this year, which is why we have it listed on our Summer Horror Movie Preview… but we’re going to have to remove it from that list, because Sony has (according to Yahoo) decided to delay the release an entire year. They Listen is now set to reach theatres on August 30, 2024.
They Listen is coming to us from Sony, Blumhouse, and Depth of Field. Weitz is producing the film with Jason Blum and Andrew Miano. Bea Sequeira, Dan Balgoyen, Britta Rowings, and Paul Davis serve as executive producers. Filming was already underway in Los Angeles back in December, so this movie is going to be complete and sitting on a shelf a while before its new release date rolls around next year.
All details about They Listen are being kept under wraps.

We’ve previously heard that Katherine Waterston (Alien: Covenant), John Cho (Searching), Havana Rose Liu (No Exit), Lukita Maxwell (Shrinking), and Riki Lindhome (Wednesday) will be starring in director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen, and now Deadline has revealed that Keith Carradine (Fear the Walking Dead), Ben Youcef (Seal Team), and Wyatt Linder (Little America) are also in the cast. As is to be expected when it comes to this project, details on the characters the new cast members will be playing are being kept under wraps.
In fact, all details about They Listen are being kept under wraps. We don’t even have any idea what the story is about. So we have to gauge our interest in this one based entirely on the names of the people involved with the making of it.

A number of great movies are leaving HBO Max at the end of March, so it’s time to prioritize these titles in your queue. Filmmaker James Gunn’s sequel/soft reboot “The Suicide Squad” will depart the streaming service on March 22 after first hitting HBO Max the same day it was released in theaters back in 2021. Similarly, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was whisked away on March 1 after also getting a day-and-date release in 2021 (sorry/not sorry if you missed it).
You also only have until March 7 to stream “Just a Boy From Tupelo: Bringing Elvis to the Big Screen,” a short documentary on the making of the Oscar-nominated biopic “Elvis.”
Other noteworthy films leaving HBO Max this month include “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Contagion,” the extended version of “Dances with Wolves,” “Ghostbusters,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Love & Basketball” and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

Havana Rose Liu recently had her breakthrough role playing the lead in the Hulu thriller No Exit (read our review Here) – which was an okay movie, but underwhelming in comparison to the awesome Taylor Adams novel it was based on. Now Deadline reports that Liu is returning to the thriller realm with a role in in director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen. Liu joins a cast that includes the previously announced Katherine Waterston (Alien: Covenant), John Cho (Searching), Lukita Maxwell (Shrinking), and Riki Lindhome (Wednesday). Details on her characters, and in fact on every character in the movie, are being kept under wraps.

There’s nothing quite like when HBO is airing one of its trademark watercooler-worthy dramas weekly. Thankfully, we’ll get to it experience exactly that and more on HBO Max in March 2023.
The big ticket item on HBO Max this March is undoubtedly Succession Season 4 on March 26. Part prestige drama and part screwball comedy, Succession is about as fun a watch as they come. Season 4 of the series about egregious wealth will find the Roy siblings reeling after trying and failing to take down their father, Logan (Brian Cox).
HBO Max’s other major TV option this month is another weekly release from HBO. Matthew Rhys returns as the titular lawyer in Perry Mason Season 2 on March 6. Season 1 of this period piece reboot flexed the classic TV character’s detective skills. From the look of the trailer, it seems as though this is the year Perry makes his name in the court room.

Actor, writer and comedian Anders Holm has signed with CAA for representation.

Outside the “Workaholics” universe, Holm will next be seen in the upcoming Netflix limited series “Inventing Anna,” from Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland, based on the New York Magazine article about faux heiress Anna Delvey.
Holm wrote and starred in the 2018 Netflix feature “Game Over, Man!,” alongside Devine and Anderson, with the trio serving as producers alongside Newacheck. Some projects presumably gather their own momentum heedless of whether they ought to have gotten rolling in the first place. A first directorial and screenplay feature for actors Judy Greer and Gary Lundy, respectively, “A Happening of Monumental Proportions” boasts a cast of worthy names (down to some significant cameos), no doubt each of whom were attracted by the people who’d signed on before them. Involvement surely seemed like a good idea at the time.
Yet here the film is, sneaking into an unlucky 13 U.S. theaters well after an under-radar festival premiere, and darned if anyone seeing the final result could suss why so much established talent climbed aboard a vessel doomed to sink at the dock. This is one of those mirthless ensemble comedies in which the central mistake is assuming that having a couple “normal” characters afflicted by numerous cartoonishly annoying ones will be hilarious — and somehow life-affirming in the end.

The first-annual Film Fest 919 (FF919) will open with Alfonso Cuarón’s award-winning film “Roma,” organizers revealed Friday. Boasting the slogan: “Catch the films before they catch on,” FF919 — named for the North Carolina Research Triangle area code — aims to bring rich offerings from the festival circuit to the area’s film-loving audience. “Roma,” which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, will bookend with closer “Wildlife,” Paul Dano’s directorial debut and Sundance entry.

Men have it tough, don’t they? I mean they have to worry about married women they’ve engaged in inner-office affairs with ratting them out to the new boss. Some are forced to face the crushing existential crisis that comes with their failed pipe dreams of rock stardom revealing how they’re nothing but lowly private school music teachers who’ve accomplished nothing in their lives — including, apparently, educating the children in their class. And don’t get me started on the ones who must endure the untimely death of their wives and the inconvenience of then having to juggle alpha male status at work with fatherhood. Blech. Why can’t the world just let us be pricks spouting homophobic rhetoric to compensate for penis size like we were born to do?

"Look - it's not important which direction you go, what's important is that you commit." Great Point Media has released an official trailer for an indie ensemble comedy titled A Happening of Monumental Proportions, the feature directorial debut of beloved actress Judy Greer. The film is set over the course of one wild, wacky day, about a group of students (and their parents) at a school in Los Angeles who find themselves caught up in a plot of sex, lies and dead bodies. Sounds fun, right? The impressive ensemble cast includes Allison Janney, Common, Jennifer Garner, Bradley Whitford, Katie Holmes, Kumail Nanjiani, Storm Reid, Anders Holm, Rob Riggle, John Cho, Nat Faxon, Marla Sokoloff, Mary Birdsong, and yes, even Keanu Reeves. I just want to see this to see all these people together in one film. I haven't heard anything good or bad about this yet, but it looks weirdly amusing for sure.

The summer of 2015 could have been the summer of Judy Greer, with the long-time character actress snagging roles in massive tentpole features like “Jurassic World,” “Ant-Man,” the “Entourage” movie and “Tomorrowland,” but what stood out most about Greer’s turns in those blockbusters was just how little they did to capitalize on her talent or charms. In three of those films, Greer was cast as a mostly ancillary mother character, while “Entourage” didn’t even bother to give her role a name (she was just “Casting Director”).
Instead of offering the actress, a two-decade veteran of the industry who has worked in both film and television, a chance to make a well-earned splash on a giant scale, she was mostly pushed to the background. Beloved character actress and national treasure Judy Greer would naturally apply the go big or go home mentality to her directorial debut.
“A Happening of Monumental Proportions” is a film that stars, among others, Common, Bradley Whitford, Allison Janney, Anders Holm, John Cho, Katie Holmes, and Jennifer Garner, which would probably be enough to get people in a theater, but it also happens to have a pretty hilarious, intriguing premise.

For almost twenty years, Judy Greer has been one of the busiest actresses in every medium, whether it’s appearing in popular comedies like 13 Going on 30, Oscar fare like Alexander Payne’s The Descendants, or even unrecognizable as the ape Cornelia in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and its upcoming sequel. Maybe Greer’s largest pop came when she was cast to play Will Arnett’s cross-eyed secretary Kitty Sanchez in Mitch Hurwitz’s popular show Arrested Development, and for the past few years, she’s also provided the voices for a couple characters on the popular animated show Archer.
Either way, it’s unlikely you haven’t seen Greer in hundreds of movies or TV shows over the years, as she keeps very, very busy, and yet somehow, despite that busy schedule, Greer has found time to put together a book and make her directorial debut with a comedy starring Common.

Judy Greer as Shelly with Pepper in Craig Johnson's Wilson
Having just wrapped up her directorial debut A Happening of Monumental Proportions, written by Gary Lundy, starring Bradley Whitford, Katie Holmes, Common, and Allison Janney, Judy Greer talked about her work on Wilson.
Greer plays Shelly, professional dog sitter, who takes care of Wilson's (Woody Harrelson) fox terrier called Pepper. Wilson is a man without many friends because he always says what he considers to be the truth. While his life begins to spin out of control, with an ex-wife Pippi (Laura Dern), a furious former sister-in-law Polly (Cheryl Hines), and the discovery of a daughter named Claire (Isabella Amara), Shelly remains a calm - if half-forgotten by the story - port in his storm, until all comes full circle and we return to her with a surprising vengeance.
