Launched in November 2022, Netflix’s ad tier notably had a few drawbacks. The biggest was that many big titles, including Netflix Originals, were unavailable to watch and were and continue to be blocked out. When the ad tier first launched, 5.1% of titles were unavailable. A few months later, it was 5.4% of the library in February 2023. On February 7th, 2024, only 175 titles were unavailable on the Netflix US library, representing a 50% decrease year-on-year. The heart-warming family dynamics and resonant themes are what make The Croods franchise so long-lived despite its historical inaccuracies. The first film is available to stream on Peacock, while the second film is not currently available for streaming. Renting or purchasing the movies is a better option since they are not widely available for streaming, with options available on platforms like Microsoft Store, Apple TV, Amazon, and more.
The animated Stone Age comedy movies The Croods and The Croods 2 are streaming on some platforms and available to rent and purchase on others. First released in 2013, The Croods tells the story of a prehistoric family who lives in a fictionalized, ancient time period. Neanderthal expert praises The Croods for its poetry, interesting drawings, and universal message despite its lack of accuracy. The movie portrays a Western family structure, which is not representative of the Paleolithic era or modern society. The animated feature highlights the societal resistance to novelty and change, which is still relevant today, making it an interesting watch despite its inaccuracy.
Neanderthal expert praises the early humans in The Croods despite not finding it perfectly accurate. Released in 2013, The Croods takes on the story of a family of cavemen who must trek through unfamiliar terrain when their cave is destroyed. The animated movie was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards and spawned a 2020 sequel The Croods: A New Age, the Netflix animated series Dawn of the Croods, and the Hulu series The Croods: Family Tree.
Albeit with some key caveats, paleoanthropologist Ludovic Slimak has positive words about The Croods.

The Croods are back, but this time on the small screen. Our favorite cave dwelling family returns with a brand new series called The Croods: Family Tree. And we have a brand new trailer to watch right here. The Croods: Family Tree from DreamWorks Animation will arrive on Hulu and Peacock starting September 23, and is one of the many new series arriving this fall.
The Croods turned out to be a huge hit for both parents and children. The box office numbers were huge with taking in just over $587 million on a budget of around $135 million. The success spawned a Netflix series called Dawn of the Croods and a movie sequel titled The Croods: A New Age. Even being released during the middle of 2020, it was a huge success, and stayed at the top of the box office charts for the better part of last year throughout the pandemic.

Animated sequel The Croods: A New Age laughed in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic, and unlike the vast majority of studio blockbusters that either packed up and fled to 2021 or went straight to streaming, the second outing for the prehistoric clan moved forward a month into November.
Of course, the studio tried to kill the Croods once before and failed, so they’re clearly made of tough stuff, and A New Age posted some surprisingly strong box office numbers, topping the domestic charts for three straight weeks and raking in close to $100 million globally before releasing on VOD last Friday.
The first installment is proving to be equally popular right now as well, with many Netflix subscribers presumably hosting a Croods double bill from the comfort of their own homes, and they might even be throwing in the four seasons of animated spinoff Dawn of the Croods for good measure.

Seven and a half years after the original first arrived, the Croods are getting a sequel that hits theaters in just under four weeks, and you have to admire DreamWorks and Universal’s determination to stick to their guns and release it on the big screen during a time when the theatrical industry is still a long way away from recovery. Not only is The Croods: A New Age one of the few mainstream titles arriving before the end of 2020, but it’s the only one that was actually moved forward on the calendar after having originally been scheduled for December.
Luckily for the studio, the first installment is proving to be hugely popular on Netflix, and the executives in the boardroom will be hoping that translates to people heading out to their local cinema to see the follow-up. Indeed, The Croods has remained one of the most-streamed titles in...

Netflix has released a collection of images giving us our first look at Dreamworks Animation's new series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. The new series certainly has its own style and I'm sure it will work with what they are doing, but it's still very different from the cartoons and animation style that we grew up with.
The images show off several main characters from the upcoming series, including Adora and the titular She-Ra voiced by Aimee Carrero (Elena of Avalor), Glimmer voiced by Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad), Bow voiced by Marcus Scribner (black-ish), and Catra voiced by Aj Michalka (The Goldbergs). Then there's another image shows off Bright Moon Castle, the capital of Etheria and home-base to the Rebellion.

Children of the ’80s rejoice! Netflix and DreamWorks Animation have released the first photos of the She-Ra and the Princesses of Power revival — and she came to slay.
The new version of the titular heroine looks quite different from the ’80s series many people grew up with, but it keeps in the spirit of the show featuring the mythical warrior princess that will empower a whole new generation of young women.
The images (check them out below) reveal some main characters from the series, including Adora and her alter ego She-Ra voiced by Aimee Carrero (Elena of Avalor), Glimmer voiced by Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad), Bow voiced by Marcus Scribner (black-ish), and Catra voiced by Aj Michalka (The Goldbergs). The series also includes the voice talents of Lorraine Toussaint, Lauren Ash, and recent Emmy nominee Sandra Oh. The photos also give us the first look at Bright Moon Castle, the...

That “Kids” tab on that you get before the welcome screen on your Netflix is about to get more use as they are adding six new series for your kids and some of us adults to watch.
Film success seems to be the contributing factor for some of these series as they are continuations from those films. But some of these are just great series and continuing them is kind of a no brainer.
DreamWorks Trolls: The Beat Goes On!
A 344-million-dollar profit at the box office will see Trolls continuing with a new series. With that if you’re expecting Justin Timberlake, Ana Kendrick, or anyone else returning from the movie think again. Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect 1 and 2) and Amanda Leighton (This Is Us, The Fosters) will be filling the roles of Branch and Poppy with original songs written by Alana Da Fonseca (Pitch Perfect 3). Netflix and Dreamworks Animation have announced that they have a new slate of animated series projects in development that are set to launch next year. One of the most exciting projects that came with the announcement includes a revival of the classic 80s series She-Ra: Princess of Power!
I hope that the series turns out to be good. I think it's something that my girls are going to love. I'm sure most of you are familiar with She-Ra, but if not, she is also known as Princess Adora and is the twin sister of Prince Adam a.k.a. He-Man. She was kidnapped as a baby by the Horde's leader Hordak. She is eventually given the Sword of Protection, which parallels He-Man's Sword of Power, gaining the power to transform into She-Ra.
The series is being developed by showrunner Noelle Stevenson, who is the Eisner-winning co-creator of Lumberjanes. Here’s...

1. “Dear White People” Season 1 (available April 28)
Why Should I Watch It? “Dear White People” is based on Justin Simien’s 2014 Sundance sensation of the same name, pulling characters and plot lines from the satirical comedy that helped introduce us to the glory that is Tessa Thompson. While the “Creed” star won’t be returning, other breakouts from the film are, and the core story — of a predominantly white Ivy League university facing a heated racial debate after a misguided blackface Halloween party — has been refined to fit a serialized format. It is hilarious, sharp, and so timely it hurts. Don’t miss it.
Best Episode: We caught the first two at SXSW, and though both are absolutely stellar, I’ve got to give the edge to the pilot. Logan Browning, as a radio personality who hosts a show titled “Dear White People,” gives a finely layered turn and the general...

Say good-bye to The Croods 2. Universal Pictures has officially pulled the plug on this sequel from DreamWorks Animation. The comedy adventure was announced even before the original Croods movie hit theaters in 2013. But now it has been tossed into the dustbin of history.
Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley made the announcement to employees at DreamWorks Animation headquarters in Glendale this past Thursday, which came as a shock to many. Production on the film was stopped immediately. Over 30 workers were deep into production on the sequel, which had been launched three and a half years ago. They are all looking for new jobs now.
Langley told those that were being laid off that she hopes to keep them at the company. The hope is to at least shift some of them to other projects that are still happening a DreamWorks Animation, such as Shrek 5. Some of these works may also...
