The Creepy Vampire Horror Series That AMC Should Have Never Canceled
Image
The words "AMC" and "vampire" automatically conjure dizzying emotions about "Interview with the Vampire," which has been slated for an exciting third season (featuring Lestat in his rockstar era!) that will grace our screens very soon. AMC's riveting adaptation of Anne Rice's beloved novel series is so well-received and singular that every other vampire story propped up by the network automatically pales in comparison.

This is especially the case with subgenre stories that received mixed critical reception upon release, as these middling shows often end up being overshadowed or forgotten over time. While Jami O'Brien's "NOS4A2" (not to be confused with Robert Eggers' "Nosferatu") ran between 2019 and 2020, this adaptation of Joe Hill's novel (titled "Nos-4R2") hasn't been a part of serious vampire discourse for quite some time. But there's one thing about "NOS4A2" that cannot be overlooked: it manages to stand out in a hyper-saturated subgenre oozing with blood and gore.

Harry Potter Star's Underrated Horror Film With 41% Rt Based on Stephen King's Son's Novel Heading to Streaming for Free
Image
Daniel Radcliffe's most defining role so far has been the titular part in the Harry Potter film series. However, after the series ended in 2011, he ventured into different genres, including horror. In 2013, he starred in the adaptation of Stephen King's son Joe Hill's 2010 novel Horns.

The comedy-fantasy-horror was not a success in theaters, debuting with mixed reviews. Now, fans have a new chance to discover the fantasy horror, as Horns is officially heading to streaming for free on Pluto TV starting July 21, per theManchester Evening News.

Horns will be available to stream for free and get a chance to find a new life after its disappointing run. Horns followed Radcliffe's character Ignatius "Ig" Perrish, who becomes the prime suspect when his girlfriend, Merrin Williams, is sexually assaulted and killed. The entire town shuns him, and, in the aftermath, he discovers he has grown horns and paranormal abilities that...

Marvel Adds a Major Character to Canon All to Defend the X-Men in a Big Way
Image
Marvel’s X-Men have dealt with their share of supporters and detractors over the years, with most of the conversation surrounding the team coming from the public’s constantly shifting opinions of mutantkind and what roles, if any, mutants should play in the world. Luckily for the X-Men, one well-known real-life writer, Joe Hill, has come to their defense in comic form.

Son of the legendary horror writer Stephen King, Joseph Hillström King, or simply Joe Hill, has been writing novels and short stories for decades now, with his work in the comic space coming in the form of DC Comics’ horror-themed Hill House Comics (itself part of DC Black Label imprint) as well as Idw’s popular Locke & Key series.

Now, in Uncanny X-Men #17, Joe Hill goes from writing comics to actually being in one, with Joe’s appearance in this latest X-Men issue letting fans know exactly...

Stephen King Praises Unsung Streaming Horror Series: “Scary? Yes. Involving? Yes.”
Image
Finding a new streaming obsession is a lot of work. There’s the endless scrolling, followed by the inevitable questioning if you made the right choice once you finally pick something. We can relate all too well. While there are no guarantees in life, we have a recommendation that may help alleviate all of that guesswork and indecision. This particular recommendation comes from Stephen King, a man who knows a thing or two about storytelling. What’s more, this pick is based on a book written by Joe Hill, King’s son. Sure, some might be tempted to cry nepotism. But King is far from the only fan of today’s pick, which just so happens to be the AMC series NOS4A2. You can see his rave critique (which is sourced from one of the author’s Tweets) directly below!

If you like shows with vampires, killers, or things that go bump in the night, AMC+ is the place
Image
AMC+ is the go-to streamer for grown-up genre TV — where horror, crime, and supernatural chaos collide.

I’ve always liked TV that leans a little dark — give me vampires, doomed detectives, or anything with a slow-burn mystery, and I’m in. Lately, I’ve found myself going back to shows that really commit to the vibe: moody lighting, intense stares, maybe a ghost or two. And it turns out, AMC+ is quietly crushing it in that department. From blood-soaked horror to gritty crime sagas and everything weird and twisted in between, they’ve carved out a lane that no other streamer is really filling right now. If you’re wondering who the best streamer for dark, twisty TV shows full of monsters and murder is, it’s AMC+. Here’s why…

Image
The acclaimed medical drama starring Zachary Quinto recently concluded its first season earlier this month.

It’s a wrap on the first season of NBC’s “Brilliant Minds,” its brainy new medical drama starring Zachary Quinto, which following a brief December hiatus recently aired its two-episode finale. Inspired by the works of Oliver Sacks, “Brilliant Minds” stars Quinto in his first main live-action TV series role since “Nosferatu” by another name, AMC’s “NOS4A2.”

Alongside his brilliant team of interns at Bronx General and through unconventional methods, he takes on some of the world’s most puzzling psychological and neurological cases.

Zachary Quinto in Brilliant Minds (2024)
Brilliant Minds Premiere Review: Zachary Quintos TV Return Is Missing Something
Zachary Quinto in Brilliant Minds (2024)
The following contains major spoilers for Brilliant Minds Season 1, Episode 1, "Pilot," which debuted Monday, Sept. 23 on NBC.

Brilliant Minds is NBC's biggest new show of the TV season, getting the network's plum time slot after The Voice. If only the series itself were worth raving about. Zachary Quinto is appealing enough as Dr. Oliver Wolf, a character loosely inspired by the acclaimed Dr. Oliver Sacks, but the show itself winds up substituing quirkiness for character or plot development.

In the series premiere, Wolf is fired after taking an Alzheimer's patient out of the hospital -- and promptly hired at the much less prestigious Bronx General Hospital by Dr. Carol Pierce. Pierce assigns Wolf and a group of interns to the case of a mother who cannot recognize her two sons after surgery. Quinto hits the notes he's expected to. Yet there's nothing in Brilliant Minds that separates it from the...

Ebon Moss-Bachrach Gave a Harrowing Performance in This AMC Horror Series
Image
He may have found a new home in Chicago, but Ebon Moss-Bachrach once proved he was king of the Boston accent. Singled out for his spot-on Chicago drawl as Cousin Richie in The Bear, it's a notoriously hard accent to master. Just as difficult is the Boston accent (and as a Massachusetts native himself), Moss-Bachrach returned to his roots and took the accent in stride in the underrated AMC horror series, NOS4A2, prior to starring in The Bear. Playing a working-class father with a drinking problem, his harrowing performance elevated the series and finally put him in a well-deserved lead role.

The Best Vampire TV Shows, from ‘Interview with the Vampire’ to ‘Let the Right One In’
Image
Editor’s note: this list was originally published in October 2022. It has since been updated with new selections.

If horror’s limitless capacity for remakes, re-imaginings, and spinoffs teaches us anything, it’s that our nightmares never really change. Since before “Nosferatu” darkened the silent film scene in 1922 — heck, even before Bram Stoker terrified readers with “Dracula” in 1897 — vampires have transfixed audiences with their chilling blend of romance and menace. Movies like “Twilight” and “Interview with the Vampire” are memorable for weaving epic undead dramas for the big screen, but vampire sagas have arguably seen more creative permutations on TV, with whole casts of blood-sucking stars appearing in shows like “True Blood” and “Castlevania.”

The best vampire TV shows examine the archetypal underpinnings of the gothic-infused subgenre by referencing them in unexpected ways. Classic situational comedies like “Dark Shadows” make entertaining light of garlic, coffins, and the (pun intended) stakes of it all.

Image
While Warner Bros. continues to sit on his adaptation of the Stephen King novel Salem’s Lot, filmmaker Gary Dauberman has gone on to sign a first-look feature deal with Sony’s Screen Gems, where he is expected to “create projects for himself while curating a slate featuring established and up-and-coming filmmakers.” One of the projects he has set up at Screen Gems is the video game adaptation Until Dawn, which will be directed by David F. Sandberg. Now Deadline has revealed that Dauberman is going to be producing a film called Ushers for Screen Gems… and we have no idea what Ushers is about, because it’s based on a short story by author Joe Hill (who happens to be a son of Stephen King) that has never been published!

Ebon Moss-Bachrach is cast as Marvel’s new Ben Grimm / The Thing in the upcoming film, The Fantastic Four. Before The Bear actor was tasked with the role in the MCU, Michael Bailey Smith, Carl Ciarfalio, Michael Chiklis, and Jamie Bell played the role in earlier live-action movies. However, Marvel did one thing right with Moss-Bachrach’s casting from the earlier iterations, as they appropriately cast a Jewish actor in the role.

The Bear actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach is cast as Ben Grimm / The Thing in the MCU’s The Fantastic Four

In Marvel Comics, Benjamin Grimm is Jewish and first revealed his identity in an emotional moment. Jack Kirby, who created the character, modeled Ben after himself and named him after his father Benjamin Kurtzberg.
