Exclusive: Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey for Universal Pictures is growing by three more as Nick Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales and Maurice Compte have joined the cast in unspecified roles, sources tell Deadline.

Nolan’s mythic action epic, shot with new Imax cameras, is based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer which follows Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. The classic explores themes of heroism, loyalty, cunning and the struggle against divine will. The tale includes iconic stories like Odysseus’ encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens and the witch-goddess Circe, culminating in a reunion with his wife Penelope.

Spotted Fawn Productions will produce an animated series based on its film, “Inkwo for When the Starving Return,” which was directed by the company’s owner, Amanda Strong, and plays at Sundance this week.

Strong, who is Métis, will be showrunner for the new six-part limited series. She has directed episodes of the PBS Kids show “Molly of Denali” and previously received the Sundance Native Lab Fellowship.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 has cast their Thalia, with a star from Netflix's Resident Evil TV show taking up the role in the book series adaptation. Percy Jackson season 1 ended with the main characters safely leaving Camp Half-Blood and going their separate ways, intent on returning the year after for more quests and adventures together. Season 2 will be adapting the second book in the series, The Sea of Monsters, which includes the physical introduction of Thalia, a daughter of Zeus who was Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Luke's (Charlie Bushnell) friend.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Tamara Smart, best known for her role as young Jade Wesker in Resident Evil, will be portraying Thalia in Percy Jackson, who was turned into a tree helping Annabeth and Luke arrive safely in Camp Half-Blood. She will have a recurring role in season 2, meaning it's unclear for now how many episodes she'll appear in.

Key described the pair’s time together as writers on “Mad TV” as one during which they “shared a mind.” He added of his former housemate, “We lived together for a few months and would write and talk about comedy — who we liked and why we liked them and how that worked in the architecture of what we were trying to build comedically.”

The duo went on to launch their hit comedy series “Key & Peele” in 2012. They also worked together on 2016’s “Keanu,” appeared on “Fargo” during the show’s first season and voiced characters in 2019’s “Toy Story 4” and 2022’s “Wendell & Wild.

Although their comedic chemistry is undeniable, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele‘s careers have gone in different directions.

Nearly a decade after their Comedy Central sketch comedy show Key & Peele ended, Key admitted that he and his former onscreen partner “don’t see each other that often anymore” amid their busy lives on opposite coasts.

“Which is, to me, a tragedy,” he told People, noting that “your lives start to evolve and move in different directions.”

After the duo first appeared together on Fox’s Mad TV in 2004, they landed their own self-titled show on Comedy Central, which ran for five seasons from 2012 to 2015. The series earned them an Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series in 2016.

The film follows a young girl who discovers an idealized alternate universe, unaware of the dark and sinister secret it holds. It was the debut film from Laika Studios and opened in theaters on February 6, 2009, to critical acclaim and brought in $124 million worldwide.

According to Deadline, the re-release brought in $8.3 million dollars, taking the number five spot at the box office. Henry Selick, the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas, says that he has hidden Jack Skellington’s in every one of his films.

The filmmaker recently revealed that he has left Easter Eggs for fans in all of his movies.

“If you look very, very carefully, you might find that there’s some image of Jack in every other film I’ve made. But I can’t legally say that’s true, but it might be true,” Selick said in an interview with GamesRadar+.

The Coraline director pointed fans to a scene from the film, adding, “You might find something in the breakfast.” GamesRadar+ noted the scene from the 2009 film when The Other Mother cracks an egg into a bowl; the yolk has a familiar face.

Other examples include 1996’s James and the Giant Peach, in which the captain of a gang of skeletal pirates looks like Jack and is referred to as Skellington.

That film certainly isn't representative of the sorts Peele would start making the following year, but he also wasnt the director of that one, with he and Key being the stars, producers, and writers, but the director was Peter Atencio. The writer/director’s fourth film has now been officially dated for Oct. 23, 2026. It will be released, once again, by Universal Studios, which has handled every one of his movies so far, and produced by Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions.

The Oscar-winner’s fourth film as a director will now debut on Oct. 23, 2026. That’s a significant jump from the original release date of Dec. 25, 2024, which was announced in March 2023, two months before the WGA strike that, along with the SAG-AFTRA strike starting in July, brought production to a standstill for most of the year. The Annecy Animation Festival is a special place where the majority of attendees are animation students and young folks just getting their start in the industry. There is a palpable excitement and genuine desire to know how these projects are made that is simply not present at any other festival or convention. But, much like Comic-Con, the studio presence is increasing with every year and trying to overwhelm attendees' attention with flashy titles, known IP, and big name talent. Sometimes it works great, though, like in 2022 when Netflix gave a bunch of auteurs the space to realize their passion projects and showcased movies such as "Wendell & Wild" and Guillermo del Toro's "Pinocchio."

Namely, this is because it draws upon the beauty of stop-motion animation to create something frequently terrifying. While there have certainly been prior works that make use of this technique to explore horror elements, whether it is the magnificent descent into darkness Mad God or the underrated more family-friendly flick Wendell & Wild, this one feels truly original in its presentation. Even as its narrative can be a bit derivative and familiar, the hand-crafted artistry on display is undeniable. Merge it with a spectacular performance from the great Aisling Franciosi, and you've got a darkly delightful yet still sinister work of horror.

Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions is producing the psychological horror Goat, with Marlon Wayans in the lead.

This isn’t an unveiling of Jordan Peele’s next directorial outing for Universal, but here’s a story about an intriguing new project that will be produced under the filmmaker’s Monkeypaw banner.

Goat is set to star Marlon Wayans (who you can see pictured in the TV show Marlon) while Justin Tipping will direct. Tipping co-wrote and directed Kicks, another film (like last year’s Air) focused on the mythical status attached to basketball shoes.

In their upcoming project, the focus will be on a mythical athlete rather than their shoes, as ‘the film centres on an up-and-coming young athlete who is invited to train with a team’s retiring star, who will be played by Wayans.’

Following a 2022 run that included Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, and a reunion with Jordan Peele in Wendell & Wild, he spent this year visiting the Mushroom Kingdom as Toad in Illumination's money-printing blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie and he's now back with the Chris Meledandri studio for Migration. Although it won't be released until late 2024, Peele also booked his next, and arguably most exciting, high-profile animated role yet this year - as Bumblebee in Transformers One.

Exclusive: The Gotham Group has signed Nigerian filmmaker C.J. Obasi, whose latest feature Mami Wata is Nigeria’s entry for Best International Feature Oscar in the 96th Academy Awards.

Mami Wata world premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in its World Cinema – Dramatic section, where it won the cinematography prize.

Award-winning filmmaker Obasi’s previous credits include Ojuju (2014) and O-Town (2015), which screened at various festivals, including Gothenburg and Fantasia.

His short film, Hello, Rain (2018) premiered at Oberhausen and over 40 festivals, winning a Jury Prize at Fantasia, and the BFI Short Film Award nomination. Juju Stories (2021), an anthology film directed by the Surreal1 Collective, won the Boccalino D’oro Award for Best Film at Locarno.

Tom Brady is getting the biopic treatment.

The Gotham Group is developing a scripted limited series titled “The Patriot Way” about the quarterback, following his rise from a sixth-round NFL draft pick to the global superstar who led the New England Patriots to nine Super Bowls, winning six. It will also cover the Aaron Hernandez, “Spygate” and “Deflategate” controversies as well as Brady’s conflicts with head coach Bill Belichick.

Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson are attached to write the “The Patriot Way,” which will be adapted from “12: The Inside Story of Tom Brady’s Fight for Redemption,” the 2018 book by sports journalists Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge.

Ellen Goldsmith-Vein will produce the series on behalf of the Gotham Group.

Tamasy and Johnson are best known for writing, along with Scott Silver, “The Fighter,” the 2018 biopic directed by David O. Russel that starred Mark Wahlberg as boxer Micky Ward.

Jordan Peele wasn't always one of the greatest horror filmmakers in the world. First he was a prolific comedian, starring in five seasons of the late-night sketch comedy series "Mad TV," impersonating celebrities left and right. Then he created his own show with his fellow "Mad TV" alumni Keegan-Michael Key, appropriately titled "Key & Peele," and that show was a major comedy hit that's still actively memed to this day.

It made sense that, when Jordan Peele moved into the realm of movies, his first project was the phenomenally funny buddy comedy "Keanu." Peele co-wrote the screenplay and starred opposite Key as mild-mannered friends who have to step outside their comfort zone and into the world of violent crime in order to rescue their kidnapped, adorable kitten. Peele may not have directed it, but it's a delight, and established Peele as a force to be reckoned with in motion picture comedies as well as TV.

The Italian premiere of Illumination and Universal Pictures’ upcoming animated feature “Migration” rounds out the lineup for this year’s View Conference in Turin, Italy. The conference, which brings together top industry professionals, thought leaders and enthusiasts to celebrate the latest achievements in animation, VFX and games, runs from Oct. 15 through Oct. 20.

“Migration” director Benjamin Renner will offer a presentation on the making of the film, which follows the Mallard family on a surprising journey outside of their New England home. Lending their voices to the project are Kumail Nanjiani, Elizabeth Banks, Awkwafina, Carol Kane and Danny DeVito. The film opens in the U.S. on Dec. 22.

“It is an honor to welcome Benjamin Renner to our live stage at View Conference 2023,” says conference director Maria Elena Gutierrez. “This Italian premiere event will give our global audience an exclusive preview of this highly anticipated movie, which enjoys its theatrical release this coming holiday season.

“Coraline,” 2009’s Oscar-nominated animated feature from Laika Studios, grossed a combined $4.91 million in a limited theatrical rerelease via Fathom Events.

The success of the screenings, which were held Monday and Tuesday, has led to two additional screenings of the Henry Selick-directed film being added on Aug. 28 and Aug. 29.

The showings, hosted by Fathom in partnership with Laika and Park Circus, placed the film third in gross box office behind “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.” It ranked as the highest grosser in per screen average on both days, making $3,000 per screen.

“As of now, Coraline is Fathom’s biggest classic movie of all time and the second highest grossing title for 2023,” Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events, said in a statement. “This film carries such a large fan following year after year, and they certainly came out in force this year to see their favorite film.”

Director Sam Fell will bring his animated feature “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget,” from Netflix and Aardman, to the View Conference in Turin, Italy, where it will have its Italian premiere. Fell will discuss the making of the film during the conference, which will run from Oct. 15-20.

Fell was nominated for an animated feature Academy Award, along with Chris Butler, for Laika’s 2012 stop-motion film “ParaNorman” and was nominated for a BAFTA Award alongside David Bowers for the animated film “Flushed Away,” from DreamWorks Animation and Aardman. “Dawn of the Nugget,” which features the voices of Thandiwe Newton, Zachary Levi and Bella Ramsey, is a sequel to the 2000 Aardman stop-motion feature “Chicken Run” and follows chicken freedom fighters Ginger and Rocky as they raise their daughter Molly.
