Exclusive: Signature Entertainment has acquired global rights, excluding North America, to crime-thriller Blood And Money, starring Tom Berenger (Platoon).

Oscar-nominee Berenger plays a retired veteran who, whilst hunting in the snowy outback of Northern Maine, discovers a dead body and a bag full of cash. Violence quickly escalates when a group of hardened criminals in search of the loot turn the hunter into the hunted in an already stark and deadly wilderness.

The film marks the directorial debut of longtime cinematographer John Barr (Video Girl). Suza Horvat produces.

The deal was negotiated by Horvat and Signature’s Director of Acquisitions & Development Elizabeth Williams. Screen Media has U.S. rights and the UK release is scheduled for late 2020.

Signature’s international sales titles include Woody Harrelson’s Lost In London, gangster pic Once Upon A Time in London and movies from its FrightFest Presents label, including The Dark Red and The Siren.

Well, we made it through another month everyone, but before we bid farewell to April, we’ve got one last batch of horror and sci-fi home media releases to look forward to this week. Arrow Video is keeping busy with their Special Edition Blus for both The Wind and Elvira: Mistress of the Dark and Scream Factory is showing The Last Continent some love, too. Agfa and Bleeding Skull have put together a must-own release of The McPherson Tape and if you’ve never had a chance to check out Gutterballs, the cult classic is headed to both Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday courtesy of Unearthed Films.

Other releases for April 28th include Deadline (1980), The Backlot Murders, Olivia Aka Double Jeopardy/Prozzie, The Dark Red, Dreamkatcher, and Malabimba: Uncensored.

Hello again, dear readers. Right now, we’re living in unprecedented times, and it’s nice that, if nothing else, we still have entertainment to help us through all of this. Most of us are preparing for another month of self-isolation and thankfully we have a ton of horror and sci-fi titles hitting various VOD and Digital platforms throughout the month of April. Also, I decided to feature some special streaming events here as well, beyond the regular digital releases we usually get, as I thought it might be helpful to have as many distractions as we could possibly get over the next few weeks or so.

One of three directors who first won attention with 2007’s excellent three-part thriller “The Signal” (not to be confused with another enterprising sci-fi-tinged indie of that title from 2014), Dan Bush has made several interesting genre features on his own since then. Like cloning fantasy “The Reconstruction of William Zero” and bank robbery-turned-monster movie “The Vault,” his latest film intrigues with an offbeat premise even if it ultimately doesn’t develop to fully satisfying results.

Once again co-written with cast member Conal Byrne, “The Dark Red” is or even come to full fruition individually. Nonetheless, this quasi-horror mixed bag will hold viewers’ attention for its originality even as it flags in both credibility and suspense. Dark Sky is releasing the movie on five U.S. screens March 6, simultaneous with its digital-format launch. It should do well enough among genre fans — who nonetheless will be kept waiting a bit longer for Bush...

Happy March, dear readers! Springtime is just right around the corner, but before we get to warmer temps and greenery popping up all around, we have a new batch of VOD and Digital releases on the horizon that genre fans will want to check out.

The month’s digital debuts kick off on the 3rd with the highly enjoyable Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street documentary, as well as Black Christmas, The Furies, and Dead Sound. March 6th will play host to the next installment of the Into the Dark series, entitled Crawlers, and Carlo Mirabella-Davis’ Swallow, featuring Haley Bennett, arrives that day on multiple platforms, too.

For those of you who missed it in theaters, Nicolas Pesce’s The Grudge (2020) is making its digital debut on March 10th, and a brand new Shudder exclusive, The Room, hits their platform on March 12th.

I’ve got a trailer here for you to watch today from an awesome-looking psychological supernatural thriller called The Dark Red. The film comes from director Dan Bush. He previously made a sci-fi thriller called The Signal, which was a fantastic mind-bending movie, and this new one looks like it’s going to deliver another crazy cool story!

Signature Entertainment in the UK has unveiled the first official trailer for a cult thriller, psychological horror film titled The Dark Red, the latest from genre filmmaker Dan Bush. The film stars April Billingsley as a young woman who is committed to a psychiatric hospital and claims her newborn was stolen by a dark cult, a "secret society to harvest its supernatural blood". But is it true or is she just delusional? The film is described as an "seat-edge twisted shocker" that premiered at the Austin Film Festival late last year, but is still waiting for an official release in the Us. The cast includes Conal Byrne, Bernard Setaro Clark, Jill Jane Clements, John Curran, Rhoda Griffis, and Kelsey Scott. This trailer gets pretty violent and bloody (since there's no MPAA restrictions playing a UK trailer) so watch out.

Earlier this month I had the gracious opportunity to interview director Dan Bush – best known for 2007’s The Signal and 2014’s The Reconstruction of William Zero. Bush’s most recent work – The Vault – is a unique blend between the heist and supernatural thriller genres; set for a September 8th release. Starring James Franco & Francesca Eastwood, The Vault’s theatrical release is a space to watch.

Dan, going from a largely independent film maker, ‘The Vault’ seems to be moving you towards larger ‘blockbuster’ style features. Is this kind of filmmaking & releases a goal of yours to reach? Or would you prefer to stay at an independent level.
