Over the years, he’s become a powerful figure in the horror community and a trailblazer for LGBTQ+ representation in film. But to me, he’s simply Uncle Mark — kind, generous, funny,...

Here's Where You Can Watch Every A Nightmare On Elm Street Movie
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Although Wes Craven's 1984 film "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is typically lumped in with slasher movies -- it came out right when the genre was cresting in popularity -- it doesn't quite follow the same structure as its contemporaries in the horror genre. The "Nightmare" movies, because they take place largely within dreams, are slightly more cerebral, bizarre, or imaginative than many of the stalk-n-stab movies that infested theaters at the time. The series also attracted interesting and notable directors who went on to other projects. Chuck Russell directed part 3. Renny Harlin director part 4. Stephen Hopkins directed part 5. And Rachel Talalay directed "The Final Nightmare."

"A Nightmare on Elm Street" marathons are common around Halloween, and steamrolling through all nine extant "Nightmare" films is an experience the series' fans have likely forced themselves through at least once. Having done it,...

Robert Englund
Robert Englund Thinks A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge Needs a Remake
Robert Englund
Robert Englund may not be returning as Freddy Krueger when Nightmare on Elm Street gets another movie, but he has some ideas about the future of the horror franchise. Specifically, the actor would like to see A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge get the remake treatment. But this time, he would like to see the subtext played up and brought to the forefront.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge was originally released in 1985 and told a completely new story within the universe. The movie has a unique legacy and, over the years, has been embraced by a much wider audience. It gained a reputation as being the "gayest" horror movie ever made. In a recent interview, while promoting his new show True Terror, Robert Englund had this to say.

"If they redid Nightmare 2, for instance, and really deal with the subtext, Freddy toying with that boy's sexuality.

Mark Patton
‘Scream, Queen!’ Film Review: How Mark Patton Battled HIV, Hollywood Homophobia, and Freddy Krueger
Mark Patton
Mark Patton was in his mid-twenties when he was cast as Jesse Walsh in “A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge,” which was as financially successful as the first movie in that series. But the blond and beautiful and sensitive Patton, who was a closeted gay actor, took a career hit for being seen as a male scream queen. The new documentary “Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street” details how Patton disappeared and then re-emerged to take control of his image.

Directors Roman Chimienti and Tyler Jensen have packed the film with as much social context as possible, and they view as many sides of this story as they can in a fast-paced, engaging style. There are interviews with academics and drag queens and fans of the horror genre, and this gives the movie a wide-ranging perspective that helps us better understand the moving personal story at its core.

Heather Langenkamp in Les Griffes de la nuit (1984)
‘Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street’ Trailer: A Gay Horror Classic’s Sad Secret
Heather Langenkamp in Les Griffes de la nuit (1984)
Released in 1985 as the much-anticipated sequel to the wildly popular “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” “A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge” was supposed to be lead actor Mark Patton’s big break. Instead, the actor found himself at the center of one of the gayest horror films ever made, a fate that was not kind to a closeted young man in the 1980s. For the first time in the 30 years since the film’s release, Patton is telling his story on his own terms in a new documentary titled “Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street.”

IndieWire’s exclusive trailer for the new documentary reveals how the original film became “a siren song for the queer horror community,” and turned Patton into “the Greta Garbo of horror.”

Here’s the official synopsis: “In 1985, Mark Patton landed the lead in the hotly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster film ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Fantastic Fest Announces Second Wave of Lineup, Rian Johnson’s ‘Knives Out’ to Close Festival
Two months after announcing its first wave, the Alamo Drafthouse-created Fantastic Fest is continuing to flesh out its genre-filled lineup. Their latest slate of films is dominated by old and new horror from around the world, but two high-profile inclusions will catch movie lovers’ eyes. From there, the programming places special emphasis on two categories: Mexican genre film and Lgbtq+ stories. For the former, there will be screenings of three-rarely seen Mexican horror classics, as well as lectures and a shorts program for young Mexican filmmakers.

The festival will also include screenings of some landmark Lgbtq+ horror films, including the new documentary...
