Being a reader means being disappointed by film adaptations of books. The makers never seem to get it right, and to be fair, it is a tough nut to crack. I happened upon Lynne Ramsay’s work after reading Lionel Shriver’s “We Need to Talk About Kevin” (2003), which was adapted into a film of the same name by Ramsay in 2011. The viewing of it was burdened with heightened expectations because of all the critical acclaim the film had garnered, and more importantly, the source material, which I still consider to be one of the best books I have ever read. I was disappointed. An epistolary that thrived on reflections of a woman revisiting motherhood and her detached relationship with a son who grew into a mass murderer had been reduced to a film that wasn’t interested in words at all. This was before I wrote about films.

From Sony Pictures, the film stars Austin Butler, Regina King, Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Vincent D’Onofrio, Griffin Dunne, Benito A Martínez Ocasio (Bad Bunny), and Carol Kane.

Sony’s “Caught Stealing” trailer shows Austin Butler navigating New York City’s criminal landscape in Darren Aronofsky’s latest film.

Butler plays Hank Thompson, a former baseball player who “unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dangerous struggle for survival amidst the criminal underbelly of 1990s New York City, forced to navigate a treacherous underworld he never imagined,” per the official logline. Butler is joined by cast members Bad Bunny, Matt Smith, Regina King, Vincent D’Onofrio, Action Bronson, Liev Schreiber and Griffin Dunne. Zoë Kravitz plays Butler’s love interest.

The film is written by Charlie Huston and adapted from his book series. “I am excited to be teaming up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-soaked roller coaster ride to life. I can’t wait to start working with Austin and my family of NYC filmmakers,” Aronofsky previously said.

Netflix picked up the rights to Stephen King's 1981 novel Cujo and is currently developing a new adaptation. Now, The Hollywood Reporter says acclaimed director Darren Aronofsky—best known for Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, Mother!, and The Whale—is circling the project.

The 1983 version directed by Lewis Teague was a modest box office success despite garnering mixed reviews. In the decades since, Cujo has become a cult classic, with many praising the central performance from Dee Wallace who plays a desperate mother trying to protect her son from Cujo's wrath.

The acclaimed filmmaker, whose resume ranges from Requiem for a Dream to Black Swan to The Whale, is in talks to direct Netflix’s adaptation of Stephen King novel Cujo.

The feature project was only revealed last week, but it’s clearly further along than known or moving on the fast track.

Roy Lee, who established his King bonafides with the two It movies, Salem’s Lot, and the upcoming dystopian thriller The Long Walk, is producing. There is no writer yet on the project, but Aronofsky is expected to meet with candidates soon.

Today, MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios announced that Oscar nominee Michelle Pfeiffer will executive produce and star in Madison, the latest addition to Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe. According to today’s official press release, the series is a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.

When the end of Yellowstone was officially announced last year, Paramount Network had set the wheels in motion for two more spinoffs. There was the prequel series, to be set in 1944, and then the present-day continuation, set to take place after the events of Yellowstone, which had the working title 2024.

Now, that sequel series is very much beginning to take shape.

That series will be titled The Madison and will star Michelle Pfeiffer, and it will be the next series to rollout in the Yellowstone universe. The Oscar-nominated movie star will also executive produce the new series from franchise boss Taylor Sheridan.

Zoë Kravitz is in talks to join Austin Butler in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The film is based on the book of the same name by Charlie Huston, who also wrote the script. The story, per the logline, follows Hank Thompson, a burned-out former baseball player, who’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of 1990s New York City.

Aronofsky’s Protozoa Pictures, which is based in New York, is producing the film, alongside his partner Ari Handel. Together, they’ve worked on the director’s π, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler, Black Swan, Noah, Mother! and The Whale; as well as Tobias Lindholm’s The Good Nurse, Pablo Larraín’s Jackie, Lance Oppenheim’s Some Kind of Heaven, Josef Kubota Wladyka’s Catch the Fair One and Alex Pritz’s documentary The Territory.

Jennifer Lawrence is on board to both produce and star in The Wives for A24 and Apple, The Hollywood Reporter informs us today.

Apple and A24 will co-produce the film, which is said to be a murder-mystery.

THR details, “Plot details are being kept in the body bag, but it is described as being partly inspired by the Real Housewives franchise, which focuses on the soap operatic and over-the-top theatrics of well-to-do women in cities ranging from Orange County to Miami to Atlanta.”

Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley wrote the screenplay.

Producers also include Justine Ciarrocchi, Jeremy O. Harris and Josh Godfrey.

Austin Butler is continuing his auteur collaborations, this time partnering up with Darren Aronofsky.

Butler, who was Oscar-nominated for his breakout transformative “Elvis” role, is set to lead Aronofsky’s upcoming feature “Caught Stealing.” Novelist Charlie Huston will adapt his own work for the screen. Protozoa is producing the Sony crime thriller. The novel is the first installment of Huston’s Henry Thompson trilogy series.

“Caught Stealing” was originally set for an adaptation in 2013 with Patrick Wilson cast in the lead role, now occupied by Butler. The story follows Hank Thompson, a former high school baseball prospect turned alcoholic bartender who gets caught up in a treasure hunt through New York City. A sadistic police officer tries to outrun Thompson, hitmen, and mobsters to find the treasure. Alec Baldwin was cast as the cop in the 2013 iteration that was slated to be written by David Hayter and directed by Wayne Kramer.
