It's revealed that Clive (Malcolm Goodwin) is a big fan of HBO's show Game of Thrones (2011). He is shown in a picture in the scrapbook dressed up as a character from the show, Khal Drogo. There are multiple references to the show after this. Ravi (Rahul Kohli) mentions Robb Stark, another character in the show, and also speaks a line to Clive in Dothraki, a language from the show that the character Khal Drogo speaks. What he says translates to "Ride or die" a motto of the Dothraki. The final reference is when Ravi asks Clive what George R.R. Martin is doing now. George is the author of the books on which the show is based, and it is a point of contention among many fans that he has yet to finish the sixth book in the series although it has been six years since the publishing of the last book. Clive's reply is that George is not writing, which is what a lot of fans think.
Vaughn Du Clark's (Steven Weber) statement: "I got the brains, we've both got the looks. Let's make some money!" is a play on lyrics from the Pet Shop Boys song "Opportunities."
The chapter title, "I'm Only Happy When It Brains," is a reference to a song by the music band, Garbage. "I'm Only Happy When It Rains."
