Superman Will Feature Three Guardians Of The Galaxy Stars - And One Addition May Confirm A Major Spoiler
Image
It was inevitable that filmmaker James Gunn would bring some of the actors he worked with in the MCU to the Dcu, and he's now named three Guardians of the Galaxy stars who will be part of Superman.

Gunn is currently overseas promoting the first DC Studios movie and confirmed in a new interview that Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Michael Rooker will be in the reboot.

"I will give you something that nobody knows. Pom Klementieff is one of the robots," he said of Superman's Fortress of Solitude robot guards. "In that same scene, it's Bradley [Cooper], it's also Pom, and Michael Rooker is another one of the robots. We've got two Guardians right there."

Read Gunn's remarks again, and you might notice that, while he says Klementieff and Rooker will join Alan Tudyk as one of the Superman Robots, he stops short of revealing Cooper's role.

‘Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run’ Already Has Its Biggest Challenge That Could Turn It Into ‘One Punch Man’ Season 2
Image
Fans of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure will get to dive into their bizarre world once again with the new Steel Ball Run story being animated. Set in the US in 1890, the story is going to follow Johnny Joestar as he takes part in a legendary trans-American horse race.

While fans are excited about the return of their favorite anime, they still have a few things to worry about. The fact that Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure: Steel Ball Run will feature a horse race as its main premise means that the anime will feature a ton of horses running next to each other, and animating that will be difficult.

A Key Visual for Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run | Credits: David Production

Often, the CGI or the animation may come across as “bizarre” (see what we did there?), and this may not be good for the show since the bad animation...

Björk on Her Wild New Apple TV+ Concert Film, ‘Cornucopia’: “Something I Hadn’t Done Before”
Image
It’s the gift that keeps on giving. Cornucopia, Björk’s critically acclaimed world tour commissioned by The Shed in 2019, is now a book (out since Nov. 15), and a concert film opening January 24 on Apple, and in select theaters in March.

The 59-year-old musician was never your usual pop artist and Cornucopia is not your usual concert film. Shot on the Lisbon stop of the tour, it features media artist Tobias Gremmler’s otherworldly digital designs that look like alien aqua-flora imagery projected on screens and giant bead curtains. Olivier Rousteing’s bizarre sculptural costumes augment the fungi-inspired props by designer Chiara Stephenson. Björk shares the stage with Viibra, a seven-member women’s flute ensemble playing multiple variations of the instrument. Also joining her is the Hamrahlid Choir, conducted by fellow Icelander Þorgerður Ingólfsdóttir. They sing on “Body Memory,” off her 2017 album Utopia, a collaboration with Venezuelan musician Arca that...

Image
Sky Force Vs Top 10 Republic Day Openers At Box Office: Pathaan Dominates The List! ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

After a disastrous run last year, Akshay Kumar is looking for a fresh start in 2025, and the lineup starts with Sky Force. Also starring Veer Pahariya in a key role, the film is releasing this Friday. Backed by the patriotic flavor, the biggie seems to be a perfect treat ahead of Republic Day. However, as far as the advance booking trends at the Indian box office are concerned, the situation is not that good.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the actor was having a great run, but the post-pandemic era has been really disastrous for him. It seems that this poor run has affected the buzz of his upcoming biggie. Despite a Republic Day weekend release, the film isn’t enjoying much hype around it. Though the start won’t be that low, the...

Maria Review: Angelina Jolie Anchors A Thoughtful Biopic, But I Just Couldn’t Love It
Image
This review was originally published on August 29, 2024, as a part of our Venice Film Festival coverage.

Maria makes its intentions clear early. In September 1977, legendary opera singer Maria Callas (Angelina Jolie) is in her final days, and her grasp on reality is tenuous at best. She rearranges the world with herself at the center, though where once entire crowds were subject to her whims, now there remain only her loyal butler (Pierfrancesco Favino) and maid (Alba Rohrwacher). They worry over her declining health. By abusing her medication, she hallucinates entire conversations. She detests doctors, who feel compelled to disrupt her with their facts.

‘Carol Doda Topless At The Condor’ Review: A Trailblazing Dancer Gets Her Due
Image
There’s an immense amount of ground covered in “Carol Doda Topless at the Condor,” ironic for a documentary revolving largely around a pioneer who established a reputation in the 1960s as a frequently uncovered, immensely popular topless dancer at San Francisco’s legendary Condor Night Club. Directors Marlo McKenzie and Jonathan Parker unquestionably make efforts to ensure that the late Carol Doda receives a fair amount of the film’s spotlight, but aren’t shy about weaving in an assortment of additional subjects, both related and seemingly otherwise, mixed with a pile of vintage clips and footage of the era so as to create a portrait of a time as much as the woman after which the film carries its name. In doing so, does it succeed?

Coldplay’s Chris Martin Deepfaked Himself for Idles’ New ‘Grace’ Video

U.K. post-punks Idles enlisted Chris Martin — both the real one from now and the one from 24 years ago — to help them put together the video for their new song, “Grace.”

The clip is basically the same one Coldplay released all the way back in 2000 for their hit song, “Yellow,” with Martin walking along a dreary, empty beach in the rain. Only in the “Grace” clip is he mouthing along to the Idles song, a feat accomplished with a bit of AI deepfake technology.

The idea for the video came...

A press release describes the project as more love-oriented than the post-punks’ previous efforts, which often dealt in political commentary.

“Tangk,” singer Joe Talbot said in a statement. “I needed love. So I made it. I gave love out to the world and it feels like magic. This is our album of gratitude and power. All love songs. All is love.”

New track “Dancer” is all about finding love — or,...

The death of Tina Turner is heartbreaking for anyone who’d ever marveled at the brilliance, basked in the warmth, been enthralled by the titanic talent of the woman born Anna Mae Bullock. Her resilience became an inspiration around the world, and Tina Turner’s musical and cultural legacy is unparalleled — an influence that stretches across generations and genres. We’ll Never Live in a World Without Tina Turner
Image
Tina Turner didn’t just pull off the greatest comeback in music history — she invented the whole concept of the comeback as we know it. She became a solo superstar when she was 44. Things like that simply don’t happen. That’s how old Brandy, Usher, Adam Levine, Lance Bass, and John Legend are right now. At that age, Tina Turner was just beginning.

Turner, who died Wednesday at 83, carried the whole story of American music in her voice, because in so many ways, she was that story, but she was also a lot more.

How Star Wars: Visions Season 2 Reflects An Incredible True World War II Story
Image
"Star Wars: Visions Volume 2" is an exciting window into the history and culture of places all across the globe. Filmmakers from Chile and India brought stories of the evils of colonialism. Filmmakers from the United States and Japan united to tell a story about racism. South Korean filmmakers told a story about the dangers of trying to change the future. Filmmakers from Spain made a film about how art can guide us to the light.

Every installment of this season was a tour de force of meaning and depth, but one stood above the others in its rooting in culture, history, and art. And one installment in particular is worth highlighting.

Produced by Studio La Cachette from France, "The Spy Dancer" tells the tale of dancers in a cabaret on a planet now controlled by the Empire. The dancers cater to the whims of the Imperials, and it would look,...

Rogers: The Musical from Hawkeye is set to perform at Disneyland resort this year
Image
It’s been called “a super powered sensation.” Critics have said that it’s “an all-American musical for an all-American hero.” And Dancer magazine exclaimed, “Every Avenger brought to life!” It’s the popular, audience and critically-acclaimed stage show Rogers: The Musical. And it’s not real…until now. The Disney+ series, Hawkeye, about the lesser profiled member from The Avengers movies, featured a tongue-in-cheek joke about a broadway musical in the superhero universe that depicts the events in New York in 2012 when the Avengers first assembled.

Deadline now has the details on Rogers: The Musical making its way on stage for real as it is set to be performed this summer at the Hyperion Stage inside California Adventure Park at Disneyland resort. Rogers: The Musical was first shown in the premiere episode of Hawkeye as joke where Clint Barton, played by Jeremy Renner, would take his kids to see the show in New York.

How To Unlock (& Use) The Fortune Teller In Fire Emblem Engage
Image
Fortune Telling is an activity in Fire Emblem Engage that lets players see what one of the characters in their roster is worrying about and whom they are thinking of. Knowing what a unit is concerned about does not offer any advantages or changes to gameplay. Instead, players can consider it "flavor text," giving insight into the character's personality and thoughts for roleplay or lore-related purposes. On the other hand, what a character thinks of makes a difference, as it indicates which unit will most likely increase the Support Rank between the two. For instance, if Timerra thinks of Diamant, placing the two in battle together can bolster their Support.

To gain access to the Fortune Telling mechanic in Fire Emblem Engage requires players first to unlock the "Fortune Teller," Seadall. For those unfamiliar, Seadall is an S-Tier Dancer unit from Solm that players can recruit after clearing Chapter 15: Dancer in the Ruins.

It’s Britney, Bitch! Britney Spears Returns with Elton John Collab, ‘Hold Me Closer’

Just months after being released from a nearly 14-year conservatorship, Britney Spears has made her official return to music — and, boy, are we living. “Hold Me Closer,” a disco-infused, reimagining of some of Elton John’s classics, marks the Princess of Pop’s first new music since her 2016 album, Glory.

“Hold me closer, tiny dancer/Count the headlights on the highway,” sings Spears on the track, which interpolates John’s “The One,” “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” and “Tiny Dancer” into a club-ready bop. “Lay me down in sheets of...

How ‘The Masked Dancer’ Went From Being a Joke on ‘Ellen’ to a Real Show at Fox
Fox revealed Tuesday that its oddball singing competition “The Masked Singer” is getting an oddball sibling series, “The Masked Dancer.” The funny thing about all this — other than, you know, another very wacky premise — is the idea for “Dancer” started as a joke on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show last January, not long after “The Masked Singer” premiered.

“So ‘The Masked Singer’ launched, obviously, our show — then it went on ‘Ellen,'” Rob Wade, Fox Entertainment’s president of alternative entertainment, told TheWrap during Fox’s day at the Television Critics Association press tour Tuesday. “I watched it and I was like, ‘This is great. This works.’ So we approached them. And that was like a year ago.”

Ballet Star Sergei Polunin, Steven Cantor Reunite for ‘Satori’ Doc (Exclusive)
Adam Garcia and Sergei Polunin in Le Crime de l'Orient-Express (2017)
“Satori” will tell the latest chapter of ballet star Sergei Polunin’s story, as the enigmatic Ukrainian dance prodigy moves into choreography and attempts to rebuild his career.

The project reunites Polunin with Oscar-nominated Steven Cantor after the pair’s work on earlier feature documentary “Dancer.” The new film follows Polunin’s inauguration as a choreographer with his “Satori” project.

He has created Project Polunin, which creates works for stage and film, and has acted in movies including Rudolf Nureyev biopic “The White Crow” and Kenneth Branagh’s remake of “Murder on the Orient Express.”

As with “Dancer,” WestEnd Films has boarded worldwide sales on “Satori.” The London-based sales, production and finance outfit will introduce the film, which is in production, to buyers at Afm. “Dancer” sold to 25 territories,...

Two major Oscar contenders just threw a wrench into the awards season. As reported by our sister site IndieWire, the music-driven films “A Star is Born” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” will compete as dramas at the Golden Globes and not as musicals. We’ve updated our Golden Globes predictions center accordingly, so go update your picks now.

“A Star is Born” revisits a story told in previous films starring Janet Gaynor (1937), Judy Garland (1954) and Barbra Streisand (1976), respectively. The Globes weren’t around in 1937, but they were when the Garland and Streisand versions came out, and both of them competed as musicals.

The 1954 “Star is Born” won Best Film Comedy/Musical Actress and Best Film Comedy/Musical Actor for Garland and James Mason. And the 1976 version swept all five of its Globe noms, including Best Film Comedy/Musical and lead-acting prizes for Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

‘Ballet Now’ Trailer: Hulu’s Dance Doc Is the Latest Female-Driven Story from Producer Elisabeth Moss — Exclusive
Elisabeth Moss
With her first foray into documentaries, “The Handmaid’s Tale” star and executive producer Elisabeth Moss extends her partnership with Hulu. Moss — who won a pair of 2017 Emmys for her work on the series — assumed the Ep role for “Ballet Now,” her first producing credit for a project in which she does not appear. The film stars her friend and fellow Broadway veteran, New York City Ballet Prima Ballerina Tiler Peck, and was directed by Oscar nominee Steven Cantor (“Blood Ties: The Life and Work of Sally Mann”).

“Ballet Now” takes its name from BalletNOW, a three-night series of performances staged at Los Angeles’ The Music Center in July 2015 and 2017. To curate the second edition, Peck assembled around her an international company of dancers skilled in tap, hip-hop, ballet, and clown artistry. For the doc — which screened at last month’s Seattle International Film Festival and Nantucket Film Festival — Cantor...

Lars von Trier’s ‘House That Jack Built’ to Premiere at Cannes 2018, Debuts First Footage — Watch
Lars von Trier in Melancholia (2011)
Lars von Trier is officially being welcomed back to the Cannes Film Festival. Thierry Frémaux has confirmed Trier will return to the festival for the first time since 2011’s “Melancholia” with his serial killer drama “The House That Jack Built.” The film will debut in the Out of Competition section, which means it won’t be eligible for the Palme d’Or. Trier was named a “persona non grata” (aka. unwelcome at the festival) after he made comments referencing Nazism during the “Melancholia” press conference.

“The House That Jack Built” tracks the origin of a serial killer, played by Matt Dillon. The script is set in the 1970s and follows Jack through the five murders that define his development as a killer. Jack’s victims are played by Uma Thurman, Siobhan Fallon Hogan, Sofie Gråbøl, and Riley Keough.

Trier has a long history with Cannes. He’s competed for the...

Dancer review
The documentary Dancer follows a boy chasing his ballet dream. Here's our review...

The life of a professional dancer is not an enviable one. Full of passion and athleticism and success in a field where so many fall short, countless narrative films, documentaries and real-world accounts have also shown the career to be uniquely damaging to the body and the mind.

Dancer, a documentary from Oscar nominated Steve Cantor following the so-called ‘bad boy of ballet’ Sergei Polunin from his childhood in Ukraine to his days as the youngest ever principal dancer at the Royal Ballet School in London, his comeback in Moscow and beyond, attempts to dig into what this stress might do to a young mind over time.

On paper, Polunin is a better subject than a filmmaker could wish for, hailed as the best dancer of his generation and having gone through a similarly dramatic fall from...
