Ellen Pompeo Is Never Leaving 'Grey's Anatomy'
Image
Ellen Pompeo is not letting Dr. Meredith Grey go anytime soon. Though the actress's last full-time appearance on Grey's Anatomy was back in 2022, she has not stopped narrating or executive producing the series which made her a household name. And in a new interview, Pompeo revealed that she has no plans to ever cut ties with the show completely. That just wouldn't make sense to her, on any level.

In a new interview with El País, the second-most circulated daily newspaper in Spain, Pompeo put it plainly, stating that it "would make no sense, emotionally or financially" to leave the medical drama for good. "The show was streamed more than a billion times in 2024. More than a billion times," she emphasized. So, yeah: would you leave a paycheck that good, for good? In 2025?! (We certainly wouldn't.)

She went on to explain her reasoning thusly:

"The companies that own the show...

Ellen Pompeo Says She Won’t Walk Away From Grey’s Anatomy
Ellen Pompeo
Ellen Pompeo says she has no intention of cutting ties with Grey’s Anatomy, even after stepping back from a full-time role in the series. In a recent interview with El País, the actor explained that she continues to stay involved both for personal reasons and because of the scale of the show’s ongoing success.

“That would make no sense, emotionally or financially,” Pompeo said. “The show was streamed more than a billion times in 2024. More than a billion times.” She pointed to the continued profits generated from her work on the series, saying, “The companies that own the show and stream the show make a lot of money from our images and our voices and our faces.”

Pompeo, who has played Dr. Meredith Grey since the show’s premiere in 2005, said she sees no logic in removing herself entirely. “If I were to walk away completely, everybody gets...

“Movies about girls don’t work”: Former Disney President Was Not Happy With Their $245M Movie’s Female Lead, 34 Years Later It Got a Controversial Live Action Remake
Image
The Disney Animation studio is a pioneer when it comes to delivering successful animated films. Especially the decade from 1989 to 1999 was dubbed as Disney Renaissance, due to the release of several record breaking movies.

A still from The Little Mermaid (1989) | Credits: Buena Vista Pictures Distribution

The Little Mermaid (1989) was a phenomenal success and later movies only strengthened Disney’s winning streak. Some initially didn’t have faith in the female-led big-budget film, like the then-Disney President, Jeffrey Katzenberg. Not only did the film create a lasting impression, but it also went on to inspire a 2023 live-action adaptation centered around controversy.

The movie which changed the animation world

The massive financial failure of The Black Cauldron (1985), an adaptation of Lloyd Alexander’s Prydain series, forced Disney to re-evaluate. They had to produce a project which could reinstall people’s faith in the animation studio.

Matt Groening Says That Freedom to Joke Doesn’t Mean Freedom from Criticism
Image
Sometimes, the price of telling a risky joke is a bad review, but that’s not the same thing as censorship — otherwise, Matt Groening would be in prison.

In the nearly 35 years since The Simpsons took over TV comedy, Groening has seen innumerable cultural debates over line-crossing in comedy come and go while artfully avoiding excess participation in any such dialogue. Though The Simpsons has long faced calls for censorship or increased sensitivity when it comes specific jokes — even from the literal censors at Fox, whom Groening generally ignores — the series doesn’t habitually thumb its nose at such critics the way their rivals over at Family Guy so often do. At the same time, The Simpsons doesn’t exactly engage in what most comedy fans would call “edgy humor,” so it’s not often that the series ever finds itself smack-dab in the center of the comedy culture war...

Joe Manganiello Denies Sofía Vergara’s Claims About What Led to Their Divorce: “Simply Not True”
Image
Joe Manganiello is responding to Sofía Vergara’s claim that they divorced because wanting more kids was a dealbreaker for her.

Vergara had previously revealed in Spanish newspaper El País that her ex-husband’s desire for more children was a big part of their split.

“My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” she said. “I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother. So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children.”

In an interview with People, Vergara expanded on her reasoning adding, “I totally respect where anyone wants to be a mom after 50. I didn’t think because of my career, the way I live my life, the way my marriage was, that it was fair to bring a kid to this world,...

Sofia Vergara says her 'giant' chest opened door to fame
Image
Actress Sofia Vergara has unapologetically said her ‘giant’ chest opened doors to stardom. The actress told Spanish newspaper El Pais about her looks being the passport to fame: “It would be absurd to deny it or for that to make me feel bad. My giant b**bs and my body opened doors for me; they were my passport to the world when I was 20 years old when I started as a model, but today I’m 51 years old and I’m still here.”

Sofia added: “I don’t do brain surgery, it’s just entertainment, and the worst that can happen to me is that they can say I look ugly or that this jackass doesn’t know how to act. I can take it.

“There are women who are prettier, younger, who have bigger breasts and a better body than me, but I’m still around because I have demonstrated that I can stay.

Every New Girl Thanksgiving Episode Ranked
Image
Holiday episodes are always a treat when watching sitcoms – it gives viewers the opportunity to see how their favorite characters handle the unique stressors of the season. New Girl didn’t quite have a Thanksgiving episode every year of its seven season run, but the five episodes that the show produced are truly some of the series’ best.

With moments like Schmidt’s (Max Greenfield) Bangsgiving, Jess (Zooey Deschanel) trying to “Parent Trap” her divorced parents, and the crew discovering a dead body, it’s hard to choose which episode tops the others, and yet that’s exactly what we’ve done. Here are all of the New Girl Thanksgiving episodes ranked.

5. “Thanksgiving”

Season 1 Episode 6

“Thanksgiving” isn’t a bad episode by any means, but as only the sixth episode of the series, it’s very clear that this is the loft crew’s first holiday get-together. Character personalities and...

‘Parents’ Is the Middling ’80s Cannibalism Classic Worth Reheating — Again and Again
Image
On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.

First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.

Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.

The Pitch: Is That a Meat Cleaver in Your Pocket — or Are My Parents Just Happy to See Me?

“What were they before they were leftovers?” That’s the dramatic meat hook on which Bob Balaban hangs his giddily middling 1989 horror comedy “Parents,” a surrealist satire set in 1950s suburbia, best likened to a chunky jello mold filled with human toes. I’ll admit, I wouldn’t serve cannibalism cinema this underbaked to mixed company; let alone the hubby’s new boss and his one-scene-having wife. But for the IndieWire After Dark family during ’80s Week,...

‘Patria’ Director Félix Viscarret Turns to More Personal Story of Parenting in ‘Not Such an Easy Life’
Image
Spanish filmmaker Félix Viscarret, known for tackling such heavy subject matter as the Basque conflict (“Patria”), crime in the Cuban capital Havana (“Four Seasons in Havana: Winds of Lent”) and psychological drama (“Staring at Strangers”), has made perhaps his most personal film yet with a touching and engrossing story of fatherhood and the pitfalls of success.

In “Not Such an Easy Life,” 40-year-old Isaías (Miki Esparbé), a once promising young architect, is struggling to balance career and family, wanting to raise his young children while desperate to achieve the fleeting professional success he once enjoyed as he strives against more ambitious rivals.

For Viscarret, Isaías’ challenges very much reflect his own experiences, which resulted in “Not Such an Easy Life.”

“Perhaps it was a cluster of special situations that I began to live with as a parent,” he tells Variety.

“For example, one day I saw all my childless friends leave for a premiere party,...

Run Rabbit Run Writer On Exploring Monstrous Motherhood Through Film [Sundance]
Image
When Sundance Film Festival kicked off this year, the economic aftereffects of the pandemic had many concerned about the state of the independent film industry. It was a relief, then, when projects like Run Rabbit Run still got snapped up by distributors such as Netflix. The quiet horror film, which takes place in South Australia and makes excellent use of its setting, serves as acclaimed author Hannah Kent's screenwriting debut. Though her novels Burial Rites, The Good People, and Devotion all have film adaptations (two of which she is also writing) in the works, Run Rabbit Run is her first time writing an original story for film.

Run Rabbit Run follows Sarah (played by Succession breakout star Sarah Snook), a mother with unresolved childhood trauma that begins to visit itself upon her daughter Mia (revelatory newcomer Lily Latorre). Mia begins calling herself "Alice," insists that Sarah is not really her mother,...

The Persian Version Filmmaker On Crafting Her Immigrant Story [Sundance]
Image
The Persian Version has become the feel-good favorite of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, having just taken home two awards and received another nomination. Written and directed by Maryam Keshavarz, The Persian Version tells the partially true story of her family's experience both in Iran and the United States. Protagonist Leila, introduces her impossible-to-believe present-day situation before guiding the audience through various phases of her family history.

Leila is not the lone narrator of The Persian Version, however, as sometimes a 14-year-old version of her mother Shirin (played by Niousha Noor as an adult and Kamand Shafieisabet as a child) or her bombastic grandmother Mamanjoon (Bella Warda) take over. While the style of each storyteller is unique, each is filled with confidence in their perspective and a zest for life that is infectious. The Persian Version is similar to stories like The Joy Luck Club in its premise, but the way...

Dotdash Meredith to Cut 274 Staffers Amid “Economic Uncertainty”
Image
Dotdash Meredith, which publishes People, Better Homes & Gardens and InStyle, will lay off 7 percent of its employees.

In a memo sent to staff Thursday, CEO Neil Vogel said the cuts were coming as the publisher was impacted by the “broader challenges of the ad industry and of the economy as a whole.” The layoffs will impact 274 people across almost every department

The company was formed after Barry Diller’s Iac-subsidiary Dotdash acquired magazine publisher Meredith in 2021 in a 2.7 billion deal. In 2022, the company ceased the print publication of six titles, including Entertainment Weekly, InStyle, Health, EatingWell and Parents, which led to the elimination of 200 jobs, largely around the print operations.

Vogel cited the current layoffs as part of the plan to continue the company’s momentum amid “economic uncertainty.” Iac is scheduled to report its fourth-quarter earnings on Feb. 14.

“Like many businesses in our space, we have grown aggressively over the last few years,...

Image
Madrid (Spain), Aug 29 (Ians) Armed thieves robbed and assaulted Fc Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at his home in the seaside town of Castelldefels in the early hours of Monday morning.

Spanish newspaper El Pais reports that several masked men entered the player’s home at around 1:00 a.m. on Monday morning and threatened him with firearms and iron bars, forcing him to open a safe containing jewellery.

Local radio station Rac 1 gives more details, informing that Aubameyang and his wife were forced to lie on the floor of their home for at least an hour as the thieves searched for valuables.

At least four people carried out the assault in which the 33-year-old was also physically assaulted, before the robbers escaped in a white Audi A3, reports Xinhua.

Iac Sees Magazines As “Luxury Good” Amid Publication Restructuring
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Iac executives gave more color on how they view the print magazine business Wednesday, following the company’s decision to end several print issues in its portfolio, including Entertainment Weekly, InStyle, Health, EatingWell and Parents.

The company, which acquired these titles through its acquisition of Meredith Corp. in 2021, cut the print editions of these publications in February 2022, while maintaining print editions of titles such as Food & Wine and Better Homes & Gardens. Remaining print editions have seen upgrades to their products, including the paper quality, and are now viewed as “a little bit more of a luxury good,” intended to help with branding, according to DotDash Meredith CEO Neil Vogel, who runs this segment.

“We said when we bought this thing, that we were going to approach print differently,” Vogel said on the investor call Wednesday. “And I think what print can be for us,...

Actor/filmmaker Bob Balaban made his directorial debut with this underseen gem of childhood fear and suburban horror. 1989’s Parents isn’t the first horror film to use the setting of middle class America to study the rot that hides underneath, but it is a particularly eerie and bleakly funny one. Co-parenting has its challenges. In a new interview for Parents magazine's April 2022 issue, Drew Barrymore was asked about the hardest part of co-parenting. "You miss them when you're apart," the actress said about her daughters Olive, 9, and Frankie, 7, whose dad is Barrymore's ex-husband Will Kopelman, "because that wasn't the plan." However, Barrymore acknowledged there can be an upside, too, like: "Both parents get a day off." Throughout the interview, Barrymore gave glimpses inside her family's private world, including a parenting win ("getting my daughter Olive to help me load and unload the dishwasher")...

"But I knew I had found the right woman and I wanted to start a life with her." Considering all the Basketball Wives who are no longer, or never were, wives of basketball stars, and all the drama that seems to cling to NBA players' personal lives like so much lint, the heartwarming story of Steph and Ayesha Curry is one to be savored. Looking back by Anne-Katrin Titze
Miri Ann Beuschel with Anton Honik on Bodil Jørgensen: "They thought that I looked a lot like her." Photo: Anne-Katrin Titze

Christian Tafdrup's Parents (Forældre) certainly features the most bizarre moment of male bonding this year on the screen. This is a film where doing laundry and raking leaves are the actions that glue together fragile states of mind. Is the white rabbit or the torrential rain to blame for mysterious rejuvenation?

Kjeld (Søren Malling) and Vibeke (Bodil Jørgensen) say goodbye to their son Esben (Anton Honik), who moves out to go to college in the city. Their house in the suburbs feels big and empty and Kjeld has an idea with unexpected consequences. What if they moved back into the city as well? Into the old apartment they shared before their son was born?

Parents (Forældre) director Christian Tafdrup: "I knew I wanted Bodil Jørgensen and...

Where the heart is by Anne-Katrin Titze
At breakfast with Anton Honik, Miri Ann Beuschel and Forældre director Christian Tafdrup Photo: Anne-Katrin Titze

Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby, Michael Haneke, a rabbit memory not from Alice In Wonderland, Danish fairy tales, Oscar Wilde's The Picture Of Dorian Gray, Molière's Tartuffe and an Andrei Tarkovsky tracking shot pops up in my conversation with director/writer/actor Christian Tafdrup.

In a turn of events straight out of David Lynch's Lost Highway book of identity magic, Kjeld (Søren Malling of Nikolaj Arcel's A Royal Affair) dreams to relive his younger days. This comes true in unexpected ways through Miri Ann Beuschel and Elliott Crosset Hove. With their son Esben (Anton Honik) leaving for college, Kjeld and Vibeke (Bodil Jørgensen of Cæcilia Holbek Trier's Agnus Dei and Anders Thomas Jensen's Men & Chicken) feel that their suburban house has become too big and empty for them. They...
