‘History Of A Pleasure Seeker’: Lesley-Ann Brandt To Star In Hulu Pilot
Image
Exclusive: Lucifer’s Lesley-Ann Brandt is joining Hulu musical pilot History of a Pleasure Seeker.

The project, which is based on Richard Mason’s novel, is a musical drama set in Amsterdam in 1907 — a tale of a charismatic young man’s explosive adventures through all the temptations of the Belle Époque.

The book, which was published in 2012 by Penguin Random House, follows Piet Barol, who has an instinctive appreciation for pleasure and a gift for finding it. When his mother dies, Piet applies for a job as tutor to the troubled son of Europe’s leading hotelier – a child who refuses to leave his family’s mansion on one of Amsterdam’s grandest canals. As Piet enters this glittering world, he learns its secrets and finds his life transformed.

Brandt will play Jacobina in the project. Powerful, beautiful and always in control, Jacobina has achieved everything her privileged childhood taught her to wish for.

‘Abbott Elementary’ and Quinta Brunson Could School the Emmys With Record-Breaking Nominations for Black Women
Image
If the Oscars were looking for a good mood with “Coda,” then the TV Academy might look to Philadelphia school teachers’ delightful and charming maneuvers with ABC’s hit show “Abbott Elementary,” which just had its season finale on April 12. Created, written and executive produced by it-girl Quinta Brunson, the mockumentary sitcom serves as a lovely reminder of the challenges that educators face daily, both in pre- and post-pandemic society, that undervalues their contributions and roles in the lives of our children. As broadcast television continues its struggles with viewership and overall presence in the awards races, the ABC comedy could be one of the freshman series that aces it with the Television Academy and its members.

With Brunson’s multiple duties on the show, she has three shots at possible nominations, including outstanding comedy series, lead actress in a comedy and outstanding writing for a comedy series. If recognized in all three,...

Outlander Just Shortchanged One of the Saga's Biggest Emotional Moments
Image
Outlander faithful, we need to have a wee chat. Because that big scene between Jamie and Fergus in Sunday’s episode? Wasna it.

I know that Season 6 was cut short because of Covid and Catriona Balfe’s pregnancy, skewing story plans and making things difficult on the whole. So it’s very possible that the season didn’t unfold the way the writers and producers originally envisioned, and changes had to be made for practicality’s sake.

Hulu's Life & Beth Premiere: Grade the Amy Schumer Comedy
Image
With a tongue-in-cheek title like Life & Beth, it’s no surprise that Amy Schumer’s new Hulu comedy has a melancholy feel between its punchlines.

The series stars Schumer as Beth, a New York City wine distributor who’s too embarrassed to call her colleague Matt (Inside Amy Schumer‘s Kevin Kane) her boyfriend, even though he is, because she’s barreling toward 40 (but she actually feels like she’s 100 years old). Paltrow, who won an Emmy for Ryan Murphy‘s “Glee” (2011), takes on the role of Payton’s supportive mother in Murphy’s latest series.

Notable A-listers who appear throughout the first season include frequent Murphy collaborator Jessica Lange as the poisonous mother of VP candidate Infinity, Bob Balaban as Payton’s quiet father, and Dylan McDermott and January Jones as the parents of Payton’s frenemy Astrid. Outlander (2014)
One of the most fascinating things about Starz hit series Outlander is the ability of Claire Fraser to time-travel between the 20th and 18th centuries. Claire has often used this to her advantage by manipulating events in the 18th century to make sure the future turns out as it should.
