Season 1 of "The Office" is not the show's strongest point. It's full of awkward moments, and nothing represents that quite so much as the endless alpha-male shenanigans of the season finale, "Hot Girl." The episode traces the cringe-worthy, testosterone-ridden antics of the still-underdeveloped characters of the Dunder Mifflin Scranton branch as they vie for the attention of knock-off purse salesperson Katy, as played by the talented Amy Adams.
Here's the thing, though. When the episode was originally shot, Adams actually wasn't on set. While she had auditioned and was the first choice for multiple people (including episode writer and Kelly Kapur actress Mindy Kaling), Adams was initially overlooked for one key reason: She looked too much like Pam Beesley actress Jenna Fischer.
In an episode of the "Office Ladies" podcast that aired in late 2024, Fischer and her co-host Angela Kinsey re-examined the season 1 finale through the lens of the extra-long superfan episode version.

Fans of The Officewon't struggle to think back on the cameo role that Amy Adams had. Early on in the series, she had a small but integral part to play. She fitted seamlessly into the mockumentary setup, and conveyed all the emotions her character went through after coming into contact with some of the bizarre people at Dunder Mifflin. The Office came early on in Adams' career in film and TV, demonstrating her ability to act with sincere realism. Moving on from the show, she has become best known for roles such as Brenda in 2002's Catch Me if You Can and 2007's Giselle in Enchanted, which earned her her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. She later won two of those awards in the same category, for American Hustle (2013) and Big Eyes (2014).
Adams was also the first guest roles on The Office.

One of the best things about The Office was how the characters would interact with the camera, making it seem like a character in itself. While the number one rule of filming is to not break the fourth wall, the actors on the sitcom had a blast doing just that. However, interacting with the camera wasn’t easy for everyone but there was one guest star who blew Steve Carell’s mind way – Amy Adams.

The Office is often regarded as a pioneer in sitcom television, but it is not without its faults. Developed by Greg Daniels, the workplace mockumentary has some weak moments during its nine-season run, making The Office just miss out on perfection. However, these imperfections act as a reminder that The Office's upcoming reboot must be given an opportunity to grow. Steve Carell and the ensemble cast are a masterclass in comedy, and after years of speculation, a reboot has officially been greenlit by Peacock after its addition to streaming platforms helped The Office find new audiences.
The Office producer has weighed in on the reboot, with Justin Spitzer remaining very optimistic about its future. The upcoming reboot will be set within the same universe as the original show, and will follow the same documentary crew that brought us the adventures of the Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch. Amy Adams almost didn’t appear in the American version of The Office because of one casting concern among the creative team. Based on the BBC series of the same name, The Office was a mockumentary that followed a seemingly mundane paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania called Dunder Mifflin. The show ran for nine seasons on NBC from 2005 to 2013, won five Emmys, and remains an iconic series today, especially with the extended episodes on Peacock. Adams appeared in The Office as Katy Moore, a salesperson who visits the office to sell purses. Eventually, she and Jim (John Krasinski) strike up a romantic relationship that lasts until season 2.

Jenna Fischer recently revealed some behind-the-scenes facts about The Office, explaining that Amy Adams almost didn’t get the role of Katy Moore, the purse saleswoman in the Season 1 episode “Hot Girl.” Fischer shared that the casting team was hesitant at first because they thought Adams looked too much like her.
On the Office Ladies podcast, which she co-hosts with Angela Kinsey, Fischer explained that Adams wasn’t the original choice for Katy. Another actress was cast and filmed for a day, but the team decided she wasn’t the right fit.
Adams was then brought in and quickly proved she was perfect for the part. Fischer recalled, “She was so seamlessly Katy. She improvised a lot, and much of her dialogue made it into the episode.”
However, there was some resistance to casting Adams because of her resemblance to Fischer. One writer reportedly said, “We can’t cast her.

Jenna Fischer recently shared some behind-the-scenes details about The Office that reveal Amy Adams almost didn’t play Katy Moore, the charming purse saleswoman in the Season 1 episode “Hot Girl.” According to Fischer, the casting team initially hesitated to hire Adams because they thought she and Fischer looked too similar.
On her Office Ladies podcast with co-host Angela Kinsey, Fischer explained that Adams wasn’t the first person cast as Katy. The role originally went to another actress, but after filming for a day, the team decided it wasn’t the right fit.
Adams was eventually brought in to replace her. Fischer recalled how effortlessly Adams fit the part, saying, “She was so seamlessly Katy. She improvised a lot, and much of her dialogue made it into the episode.”
However, there was initial pushback about casting Adams due to her resemblance to Fischer. One writer reportedly commented, “We can’t cast her.

Although John Krasinski‘s Jim mostly only had eyes for Jenna Fischer‘s Pam on The Office, he certainly had a type.
Fischer recently noted that Amy Adams “was not the first person cast in the role” of Katy Moore on the NBC mockumentary sitcom’s Season 1 episode ‘Hot Girl’, which aired in April 2005, because they “looked too similar.”

Amy Adams almost wasn’t cast on “The Office” for a surprising reason, Jenna Fisher and Angela Kinsey revealed on their podcast “Office Ladies” Wednesday. Adams appeared in the season one episode “Hot Girl.”
“In our original breakdown of this episode, we mentioned that Amy Adams, who stars as the purse girl, Katy, was [episode writer and star] Mindy Kaling’s first choice for the role. But what we didn’t share was that Amy Adams was not the first person cast in the role,” Fisher explained.
Adams was “everybody’s first choice” but “there was this concern that Amy and I looked too similar.”
“And I guess one of the writers even said, ‘I’m sorry, we can’t cast her. She’s like Jenna 2.0.’ And so they got cold feet and they cast someone else,” Fisher continued. “But when it didn’t work out, they decided to cast Amy and just lean...

The Office followed a fake documentary crew filming the employees of a mid-level paper company in Scranton, Pa. The mockumentary ran for nine seasons on NBC and featured many talented guest stars. Steve Carell starred as Michael Scott for the first seven seasons and praised one guest star's performance when he appeared as a guest on The Office Deep Dive.
Before Amy Adams became an Oscar-nominated film star, she played Katy in The Office season one finale titled “Hot Girl.” Katy was a saleswoman who set up shop in the conference room for the day, selling purses. Their years-long rewatch of “The Office” may be coming to an end, but “Office Ladies” is just getting started. On the Oct. 2 episode of “Office Ladies,” hosts Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey announced the next phase of their popular podcast — which will begin when they complete their rewatch of the Emmy-winning comedy later this month.
As of early November, “Office Ladies” will move to a twice-a-week format. The bond between a JoJo and their assigned Jobro has remained one of the JoJos Bizarre Adventure fandoms favorite dynamics the series offers. Whether it be through the hooligan nonsense of Josuke and Okuyasu, or the juxtaposed personalities of Joseph and Caesar, the JoJo-Jobro relationship remains iconic.
Yet, many fans have singled out Jotaro and Kakyoins relationship in Stardust Crusaders to be particularly special, with them having a sense of camaraderie and trust that few others have in the franchise. This has led to many fans shipping the two together; while this is far from uncommon in JoJos Bizarre Adventure, this ship seems to have become quasi-canon with the creation of Jotaro and Kakyoins son.

The Office is one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time, with lovable characters and an entertaining mockumentary storyline. The show aired through the prime of early 2000s TV, spanning nine seasons and cementing itself in the hearts of many. Over a decade after the show ended, fans keep going back to rewatch, and one of those reasons is the iconic relationship at the forefront: Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly.
Throughout the show's early seasons, Jim and Pam epitomized a will-they-won't-they dynamic. Given The Office's workplace setting, romance isn't exactly what one would expect, but Jim and Pam share intense chemistry from the first episode. With ups and downs, flirting, and heartbreak, Jim and Pam were part of the show's heart. Their long-winded romance took a while to build. But luckily, in a world of streaming, there's no need for fans to wait to see their happily ever after.

Taking their locally legendary sketch show from a cramped stage beneath a Chelsea grocery store to movie theaters across America, the only thing Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp couldn’t save was its original title.
“In 20 years, when the culture has changed, we’ll put out a director’s cut,” Sharp joked to IndieWire in a deep dive with Jackson ahead of the pair’s feature film debut. “The movie will be the exact same, just with the name ‘Fucking Identical Twins.’”
The creative partners’ basement triumph, better known these days by the only slightly more family-friendly moniker “Dicks: The Musical,” was stuck in Hollywood development for over a decade. The track, produced by Easyfun, interpolates Toni Basil’s “Hey, Mickey!” with Charli’s classic calling cards: electronic melodies and boosted bass that’ll make you want to blast through red lights at 100 miles per hour.
The Barbie soundtrack has inspired a ton of campy singles so far, including Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World,” PinkPantheress’ “Angel,” Karol G’s “Watati,” and Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night.” Executive produced by Mark Ronson, the album will also feature Haim, Tame Impala, Dominic Fike, and even Ryan Gosling in the appropriately titled “I’m Just Ken.” The soundtrack drops in full July 21st, the same day the Margot Robbie-starring film hits theaters.

Any good movie about a pop star needs some actual business experts on its crew. Good thing David Lowery has enlisted Charli Xcx and Jack Antonoff to write and produce the original soundtrack to Mother Mary, the filmmaker’s upcoming A24 feature.
Mother Mary will star Anne Hathaway and I May Destroy You wiz Michaela Coel as a fictional musician and fashion designer, respectively. A press release describes it as an “epic pop melodrama” that follows the “relationship” between the pair. Will that relationship be platonic? Business? Romantic? All three? Who knows?
This is neither Antonoff nor Charli’s first rodeo when it comes to film soundtracks: Antonoff has produced a handful of tracks specifically for movies over the last decade, notably last year’s star-studded Minions: The Rise of Gru Ost. Charli, meanwhile, did the original single “Hot Girl” for the slasher comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies, also an A24 flick.

It's easy to lose track of all the celebrity guest stars over the nine seasons of The Office, but Amy Adams' supporting role was among the most memorable. She played a huge role in the development of one central relationship, and despite only appearing in a handful of episodes throughout her tenure on the show, she's one of the most important side characters in the entire story. Celebrity cameos have always been a highlight of The Office, with famous comedians such as Will Ferrell, Jim Carey, and original series creator Ricky Gervais making appearances, but Adams played a more pivotal role in the story.
The Office is among the most re-watchable sitcoms, and the hilarious guest stars and recognizable cameos are among the biggest reasons. Amy Adams brings a much-needed sense of humor to some of the early seasons' most crucial and dramatic scenes, which really helped The Office balance...

The weird sisters of Bram Stoker’s Dracula are doing it for themselves. Greg Berlanti and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who brought the devil out of Riverdale to spawn Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, are shooting pilot for The Brides for ABC.
The project goes back to 2015, when NBC put in an order for a script. For ABC’s desanguinated re-incarnation, the script will be written by Aguirre-Sacasa, who will executive produce alongside Berlanti and his head of production company, Sarah Schechter. This new series promises to move “stronger into horror and sexuality as it reimagines the classic vampire characters.” The pilot will be directed by Maggie Kiley. ABC Studios and Warner Bros. Television will coproduce the series.
The project was announced back in January. The Brides is technically ABC’s first pilot order of the 2020-21 broadcast season. It is the first shot across the bow for Karey Burke, who as ABC’s...

Gotham alumna Erin Richards has landed the remaining title role opposite Gina Torres and Katherine Reis in The Brides, ABC’s Brides of Dracula drama pilot from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television.
Written by Aguirre-Sacasa and directed by Maggie Kiley, The Brides, a sexy contemporary reimagining of Dracula, is a family drama with a trio of powerful female leads at its heart — Cleo (Torres), Renée (Richards), and Lily (Reis). With strong horror elements, The Brides is a vampire soap about empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their nontraditional family.
Richards’ Renee is the head of a top modeling agency in New York City, known for her torrid affairs with her beautiful female models. In her former life, she was the wife of the Marquis de Sade when she invited Dracula (Goran Višnjić) into her “house of pain” and asked to be “turned” by him.

Hop on Twitter, and you will find a multitude of posts from frustrated black women decrying everything from cultural appropriation – to be clear, Kim Kardashian did not create cornrows – to the deplorable and racist way four freshman congresswomen of color have been villainized by the Potus.
In contrast, much-needed moments of levity by black women and for black women are much harder to find. That’s going to change when HBO’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show” premieres Friday. Funny, irreverent, subversive and self-aware the series, created and executive produced by comedian Robin Thede, is rife with brilliant bits meant to be shared via social media. Every episode (HBO previewed the first six for critics) has at least three noteworthy sketches that will make viewers revel, ruminate and post. Even the title sequence, which features puppets and Megan thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl,” is sharable.
