Shanghai: Women Filmmakers Speak Out on Challenges and Triumphs at Kering Seminar
Image
The universal struggle for opportunity and recognition among women filmmakers took center stage on the sidelines of this year’s Shanghai International Film Festival, as four leading industry figures shared their experiences to inspire and inform.

The Kering Women in Motion initiative — launched by the French luxury group to “highlight women in arts and culture, change mindsets, and combat gender inequality” — held its first-ever China event this week, bringing together Chinese actor-producer Liang Jing, Brazilian filmmaker Luiza Mariani, Indian multihyphenate Kiran Rao and Chinese actress Lyu Yanting, best known for voicing the title character in the animated blockbuster franchise Ne Zha.

Rao, who produced the global hit Dangal (2016), which grossed a historic $200 million at the Chinese box office, reflected on significant industry shifts she’s witnessed over her 25-year career.

“I think we’ve seen that [change] in the kinds of stories and roles that women get to play on screen,...

Aamir Khan Swims Against The Tide Again: How The Superstar Puts Storytelling Before Stardom
Image
How Aamir Khan Stands Out In The Digital Age With His Unconventional Decisions

In a career spanning nearly three decades, Aamir Khan may have catapulted to become one of Bollywood’s biggest superstars, but he has always prioritized content above everything. He is known for selecting meaningful stories that can deliver powerful narratives to the masses instead of solely focusing on commercial appeal.

The Taare Zameen Par star has always taken the unconventional route, creating trends instead of following them. With every new project, Khan has proved that glory doesn’t come from glitz or gimmicks but great storytelling instead.

In another such unconventional move, the actor has reportedly turned down a staggering ₹125 crore Ott offer in favor of a big-screen release. With a firm belief in the collective power of theatrical experiences, Aamir Khan has challenged the trend of lucrative deals with streaming platforms by preferring shared audience reaction over solo streaming clicks.

Image
What If Aamir Khan Had Turned Down Dangal?(Photo Credit –YouTube)

Aamir Khan has delivered several blockbuster hits over his illustrious career, including 3 Idiots, Ghajini, and Pk. However, his highest-grossing film to date remains the 2016 wrestling drama Dangal, which grossed around a whopping ₹2070 crore at the box office worldwide (according to Sacnilk). The perfectionist actor portrayed Mahavir Singh Phogat with such depth and precision that it’s almost impossible to imagine anyone else playing the role in the widely acclaimed film.

If Not Aamir Khan, Then Who?

But what if Aamir Khan hadn’t starred in Dangal? According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, the makers had a Plan B in mind—casting a veteran South Indian actor in the lead. More specifically, they would have approached either Kamal Haasan or Mohanlal to play the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat.

Why Netflix’s Dull and Dry Rom-com ‘The Royals’ is Still Trending Despite a 36% Rotten Tomatoes Score?
Image
In the Ott age, the bar for what’s “watchable” is lower than ever. Audiences are no longer chasing only quality—they’re chasing comfort, drama, escapism, and just enough plot to keep pressing “next episode.” That’s where Netflix’s The Royals slides in. With a mere 4.2-star IMDb rating and a 36% rotten tomatoes score, the show is “glitzy and painfully inert” and really far from critically praised. Yet, it’s trending. Not because it’s a standout rom-com or binge-worthy series on Netflix—but because it’s easy to consume.

Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana’s The Royals follows the tired but crowd-pleasing formula of will-they-won’t-they, set against an opulent but debt-ridden palace backdrop. It’s predictable, dry in parts, and barely lifts off emotionally. But it’s shiny, occasionally funny, and performs just well enough to ride the Netflix algorithm. There’s a reason it’s...

The stakes are high, and it remains crucial for Aamir Khan to score a success with Sitaare Zameen Par. Of course, fans have high hopes pinned on Mr Perfectionist, but the odds may not be in favor of his upcoming sports-comedy drama. Scroll below for the trailer impact on day 1 at the box office.

The Sitaare Zameen Par trailer is all well!

Sitare Zameen Par is a spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par. The sequel benefit will definitely come into play. As far as the 3-minute 29 29-second-long trailer is concerned, it has its moments, but unfortunately, very few that will stay with you. The expectations were high, but the ‘wow’ factor was missing. However, it is to be mentioned that the dialogues and Bgm were worth praising. Hopefully, the content will be strong and the word-of-mouth will drive the audience to theatres.

Aamir Khan Sees ‘Win-Win’ Future for Indian-Chinese Film Partnerships at Waves Summit
Image
At India’s inaugural Waves (World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit) in Mumbai, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan highlighted the striking cultural similarities between Indian and Chinese audiences as a foundation for deeper collaboration between the two film industries.

Khan’s films have been phenomenally successful in China, including “Dangal,” which grossed some $193 million.

“The cultural flavor in China, the emotions of the people in China, they’re very similar to the emotions of Indians,” Khan said during a panel focusing on China at Waves. “The Chinese audience reacts in a very similar way to content the way that Indians do. That’s what my experience was when I was watching a number of my films on the screen in China, and the audience was reacting to ‘Dangal’ – there was absolutely no difference between an Indian audience reacting to the film and a Chinese audience, almost identical, the reaction.”

Khan said that...

Indian actor Aamir Khan has delivered many memorable performances during his illustrious forty-year acting career. Whether it’s his cop act in Sarfarosh, his performance as a strong-willed villager in Lagaan, or his performance as a determined father in Dangal, he nailed them all. But according to Aamir Khan, that’s not the case with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s critically acclaimed social political drama ‘Rang De Basanti’ because the sixty-year-old actor thinks that he could have done one particular scene of the film much better.

The Rang De Basanti Scene Which Still Irritates Aamir Khan

In a recent interview with Fever FM, Aamir Khan confessed that he was not satisfied with his own acting in the scene from Rang De Basanti where DJ and Sue come back after facing the wrath of the police during a peaceful protest.

This Indian Film Sold More Tickets Than Avatar 2 & Infinity War: And It’s Not What You’d Expect
Image
Bollywood Beats Hollywood Records(Photo Credit –Hotstar)

When one thinks of Indian films that have left a lasting impression globally, titles like Sholay, Awaara, Baahubali, or Rrr usually spring to mind. These blockbusters boasted unforgettable performances and soundtracks. Over time, these films cemented their place in the pantheon of iconic Indian cinema, both at home and abroad. And yet, hidden in plain sight, there’s one film that quietly outpaced some of Bollywood’s biggest giants in one key metric: ticket sales.

This isn’t about box office collections but about the sheer number of people who actually went out and bought a ticket. And what’s even more surprising? The film in question isn’t often mentioned in typical lists of all-time Indian greats. It didn’t spawn a franchise, it wasn’t driven by megastar power, and it didn’t rely on visual effects wizardry.

1971 Caravan sold more than 300 million tickets in Asia,...
